Is this the one that has a vet delivering the pups to a house in the Mt Gravatt area and fills a pet shop there? That one has papered as well as not papered dogs and I know first hand what appalling condition some of those pups arrive in.

Wait for it ! Well done RSPCA ! - Or was that bio tech ??

The Maremma would be happy there as long as you lived with it as part of the family and didnt leave it on its own. Ive placed Maremmas as pets where they have been in small areas.

That exactly what It looked like. At least that is one puppy farmer gone. And just looked at the cat page, some of them do not look very healthy. Just rang the mobiles on their site, funny no answer at all. Better be super sure its them before we jump to conclusions.
-
Yeah well when I saw the figures I knew it was puppy farm.I saw well fed dogs and yards which had shelter and heaps of space. The report seems to tell us it was something other than what we saw on the news report but either way I hope they have the ability to have independent observers and second opinions. Im not in any way condoning what they have done for a living but that doesnt make them automatically guilty of mis teating their animals either. Though if Im honest I have to admit in my opinion just having that many is mistreating them.
-
Well here's hoping in the spirit of justice that they have an independent person who is quailified to give an educated opinion and that they have the opportunity to seek second opinions. But with the meter running now on boarding and vet bills not to mention legals I guess it's all over for them anyway whether they deserve it or not. But of course they deserve it right? They were puppy farmers.

O.K I watched it twice and I still think they all look well fed and in pretty good nick. The yards looked big enough and I cant see what it is they have pinged them for. There was nothing there that tells me the reasons they had for taking them out.
-
I cant see it now either but it looked like a bunch of well fed labs to me.

Thinking of you Chewy. -
The barking may not bother you now but unless its checked it will drive you and your neighbours nuts.

Maremma puppies are supposed to act scared and you cant tell about how he's going to go with guarding for a very long time yet. Its also normal for him to rip up the grass and plants - I promise you whatever is going on he doesnt love the tree. He may grow to see the things that come into the tree as something he needs to guard but I think you're off base with how you're reading this pup.
-
The pup isnt guarding the tree - he's guarding you from whats in the tree. Giving him something to work at is good but that wont stop him barking because thats how they work- if anything it wil increase the barking in order to scare the birds off from his turf. How do you know he's not a strong guarder. They dont get to where they have to be as babies and his behaviour is pretty much as I would expect it from a pup that's learning his family is his flock. Atths point you get either one of three things - He will become used to the birds and see them as no threat, and therefore stop barking at them , he will work out a way to kill the birds or the birds will get the message and get out of there or he will continue to bark at the birds. We have one in the paddock which doesnt bark any more at the crows but the crows wont fly over his paddock because he killed a bunch of them.If galahs or magpies come close he jumps up to kill them. You can buy one of those fake hawks and attach it to the tree to keep the birds away or you can train the dog not to bark at the birds. Itroducing some Rabbits is O.K. as long as you dont expect that it will stop the dog doing what its bred to do - guard the rabbits and your family. They do this via three strategies. barking, marking and making friends with the animals they are looking after. Also you cant just grab a couple of rabbits and expect the dog should know its something to look after and what its job should be. The rabbits certainly wont instantly accept the dog either so there's a process you have to go through in order to get the dog to work effectively. If this is what you intend to do its best if you do it now rather than when the dog is older.

Cottage cheese is good as long as its in with lots of other things. All things in moderation and lots of variety. When you shop for your self or your kids you know you cant feed a balanced meal every meal and that you need to balance the whole thing over about a week. You do this by buying lots of different foods and offering your family a variety and you know the less processed the more healthy.Different meats in one meal are O.K. but I like to steer away from carbo hydrates [ kibble] at the same meal as raw meat. Raw meat usually assimilates pretty quickly and doesnt sit in the digestive tract of the dog long enough to allow the bacteria to brew.Kibble takes longer to go through the digestion process and it can keep the meat trapped in the digestive tract for longer than it normally would be.

The Beginning Of The End

Id say there's enough evidence to support the idea that the ANKC do not support this activity and its my opinion that they have actively made comments and policy statement to portray a perception that its an activity which shouldnt be able to be considered good for the dogs or good for society. Any law makers would at least take this into consideration. You surely have a huge battle on your hands. Sad because at the end of the day it will see dog people who should be united stand against each other. Divided we fall. -

I dont think you've been lax - or anyone for that matter. I just think its time to get it all clarified and spelt out to us based on what legal people have to say so we know rather than think we know. - Make sense? -

Problem is most of it comes back to what we think. We need someone who knows how to decipher this legal stuff to take a good look at it and tell us exactly what the hell we can and cannot do legally. Its only then we know what we should be doing not to be prosectuted but also what we can go after by way of trying to have the thing ammended. We also need to get the ANKC to answer IN WRITING their policy specifically on Schutzhund as a sport in difference to anyone training their dogs to attack humans for crimminal intent. Then we know what we need to do to put pressure on them to re word their policy or to change their views. In my opinion if the ANKC are going to stand against this as a sport they are stupid it would make them guilty of doing to Schutzhund what ARights are trying to do to them, however if they are then there are ways to approach it to help them to see the error of their ways without getting their members off side. This arm chair lawyer stuff ,gueswork and speculation isnt going to take us anywhere fast enough and there's no time to waste.
