The cocker in the clip was a young fellow - not Mangus and Marg and Lesley who have been to the house, both know him in person, and had a look for him are pretty convinced based on the description that its him that did the bunk. -

O.K. I need you all to concentrate on this bit. It seems there was a cocker spaniel which was causing the RSPCA a bit of grief because he didn't want to be contained and he has hit the toe. From description and because he was a pain in the butt it seems that this may be Magnus The Best Cocker Spaniel in the world so please everyone spread the word we are looking for a Cocker as he has run a way. We also need some feed to get to the property so we can look after the horses. We will organise a delivery from a stock feed place as soon as we can but if anyone in that area has some to donate and can get it there without too much trouble it would be much appreciated. Julie -

Yes thanks - for now the dogs are covered. I have to admit I will breath a sigh of relief when I hear they actually have them in their hands though. -

It looks like the horses will stay on her property and we will have someone feeding and watering daily and doing what ever needs to be done at least in the short term until we settle down and see what the prognosis is. We also have people on their way right now to pick up the dogs and they will be staying with people Jed knows for now so there isnt any urgency for foster carers at this time. I'm keeping note of all who say they may be able to help so if we need you I will give a yell. We are also taking the bodies to be buried rather than allowing them to be sent to the tip so Jed can see their graves. Julie -

Jed is really really big on keeping her identity private but after discussion with the board of the MDBA we have agreed that this is an exception and considering channel 7 are doing a big story on her its a bit pointless to skirt around it. Im sure Jed will forgive me for sharing this with you. The best cocker spaniel in the world has died along with Jed's older boxers and some of her cavs who have been her heart and passion. Some cavs have survived and also 3 boxer pups. Their Mum is dead. -

Here Page 1 strengthening council powers to control and destroy dogs that are a danger to the community, increasing penalties for irresponsible owners whose conduct has allowed dogs to attack, increasing resources for educating dog owners and by reforming the existing restricted breed regime. Currently a dog seized while at large must be held in the pound for a minimum of eight days even if there is no way of identifying its owner. The bill will give an authorised council officer power to destroy a dog 48 hours after seizure if the dog was straying, is unidentifiable and is considered a danger to the community. The bill will also allow an authorised officer to immediately destroy any dog that is behaving in such a manner or in such circumstances that the officer reasonably believes it will cause imminent serious injury or death to a person or other animal. This power currently exists for officers authorised under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 but will now be extended to council officers under the Domestic Animals Act 1994. In the case of dangerous dogs found at large, the bill will give an authorised council officer power to destroy the dog 24 hours after confirming it is a declared 'dangerous dog' under the act. This is a dog that has previously been proven to have attacked and caused serious injury. It is a central tenet of dog management legislation that a dog is confined, registered and identifiable to its owner. Page 2 an estimated 40 per cent of dog owners fail to register their animals. The bill will double the penalties for not applying for registration and for an animal not wearing the council identification marker when off the owners' premises. As well, the bill will give authorised officers explicit power to scan a dog for a microchip to identify it for enforcement purposes under the act. It is in the nature of dogs to stray if they are not responsibly confined. To provide greater incentive for responsible dog ownership, the penalties for an owner allowing a dog to be at large will be doubled from 3 to 6 penalty units for a dog at large during the day and from 5 to 10 penalty units for a dog at large during the evening. Page 3 The bill broadens the criteria for the declaration of a 'menacing' and 'dangerous dog'. It will allow a dog that causes a non-serious bite injury on a person or animal to be declared a 'menacing dog' and a dog that has been the subject of a second or subsequent attack or rushing offence to be declared a 'dangerous dog'. Page 63 As at January 2010 there were 335 restricted breed dogs declared in Victoria. However, microchip identification registry declarations by owners suggest that there are several times that number of this type of dog in the community that are registered as another almost identical breed or as a crossbreed of another breed. This means that these dogs are not being kept in accordance with the strict controls that apply to restricted breed dogs that may be kept under the act. In order to better regulate restricted breed dogs, in place of the current prohibition, the bill provides for a two-year amnesty period to allow owners to register restricted breed dogs and thereby bring them under the existing strict controls. The amnesty will only apply to dogs in Victoria immediately before the amnesty begins. The bill provides for a standard to be precribed to assist with the identification of a dog as one of the restricted breed dogs. If a dog fits within the standard it will be included In the definition of a restricted breed dog whether or not the dog is a cross breed. To ensure procedural fairness and transparency of process, the bill provides for appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal from a declaration of a restricted breed dog. This will replace the current provisions in the act providing for an appeals panel. Lastly, the bill will clarify the authorisation requirements for the implanting of microchips and ensures that only veterinary practitioners can implant horses. It will also make several machinery and housekeeping amendments to clarify provisions of the Domestic Animals Act 1994.

Sadly it seems that we will be lucky to be able to help spike as the neighbours [bUSY FARMERS] who have been looking after him are not happy about what they see as interference. The owner is terminally ill and isn't able to be involved at this point to help get him out either. There are issues with paperwork and ownership which it is doubtful will be resolved. We are still trying but it doesn't look very promising. Thank you to everyone who has made suggestions and offered help but until something changes we are stuck and Spike will go to God.

'Im not arguing against desexing I'm saying I want the right to decide what I want for my dog.Im arguing against mandatory desexing where a government has the right to dictate to me how I should manage my dog.I'm arguing against being treated like an idiot and people wanting to take preventative action against me because some people don't do the right thing and allowing their dogs to have a litter. Many people see their animals as valuable to them as their children and the reality is that side effects of lack of testosterone and estrogen are played down at best or not mentioned. Forget for a minute about studies on dogs but look at what happens to male humans if they have no testosterone from an early age.Look at how women age more quickly after their estrogen levels drop and you cant deny that testosterone and estrogen are used by a mammal for things other than just whether they are feeling horny or able to reproduce. Many people opt to have their animals desexed because its easier to live with a less horny boy or an in heat female but they should know the side effects and be able to make that decisions based on what they think is best for them and their dogs. Personally I don't want to do a single thing which takes away the time I can have with them or do anything which may impact on their quality of life I want the right to make that decision. None of this is logical to me. Taking tails off in case they have a tail injury was stopped, there are drums beating about muelsing in case sheep get fly blown, declawing in case they ruin the furniture is legislated against and yet its O.K. to tell me I have to rip out their organs under general anesthetic with side effects way way more profound that any of these other things in case they have an unplanned litter and thats O.K. ? I don't think so. Some people will opt to have their animals de sexed and in the main thats what I encourage them to do but making it mandatory? Nup. Making it so I only have the right to keep an entire dog if I am a member of one canine association which has a monopoly where in effect a government is recruiting members for them? Nup.
