  1. Trudie at Dogoverboard in Adamstown is great. She does our two mini schnauzers. I wouldn't let anyone else there do a westie clip though as it seems to be an advanced clip, kinda like the schnauzer clip
  2. We go to Dogoverboard in Adamstown. I don't know if they do rescue rates as you say. We only let Trudie clip our two mini schnauzers as we won't let anyone else touch our dogs with clippers. PM me if you need more info.
  3. Hi busterlove In NSW you have to complete the cert II in Animal Studies before you are accepted into Vet nursing. I only know because I am waiting to hear if I have accepted into the cert II Animal Studies (as you have to submit an application form). This course goes for about six months. After you have finished you then have to submit another application for Vet nursing along with written evidence a vet clinic will either employ you or except you as work experience, however I am not sure of how long or how many hours you have to work for at this stage as I assume you find that information after you have completed the cert II Animal Studies. I am planning on doing Vet nursing next year. Hope that helps
  4. good girl charlotte. people like you certainly make the dog world a much better place
  5. We have just a standard compost bin. We don't use the lid though. I collect poo after every poo (because I can't handle leaving it. I use one of those poop scoop kits. you know like a metal dust pan and flat piece of metal to push the poo into the pan) and we have two dogs. We add the grass clippings from the grass catcher each time we mow to the compost but we dont put it back into the garden, it just all works down together. In summer it can get a bit smelly but I just get a shovel and mulch it around together and that seems to tone down to little amount of smell. We have never put poo in the sulo bins, I think it just makes your bins smell gross We have never had a problem with this method of 'poo removal' (for want of a better word)
  6. hey there bec you ask why you should bother? please continue to believe in what is right one day someone will take your advice on board. you can only share your knowledge. it is frustrating when people are morons though isnt it keep smiling
  7. ohhhhhhhh poor thing. hope she feels better soon. lots of schnauzer kisses from humphrey and scarlett xoxoxo
  8. Hi guys I actually don't like the puppy stage at all. Couldn't wait for our last one to grow up. We just realized that its been 12 months last weekend (over Easter) that we got Scarlett. She is 15 months old now, thankgod I have no desire to go back to the puppy stage at all. Glad its all over
  9. I watched this report with great saddness. Yet again another media report that shows the greed of humans. To me it is no different to a concentration camp. AN animals version of a concentration camp
  10. RIP Daddy. What a special dog. From someone who was never a fan of the pitty's, Daddy really opened my eyes. Strong, calm, loyal and lovely natured. 'There will never be another that will take your place Daddy. The dog world is a better place for the lessons you taught'
  11. I really hope Cessnock COuncil pays attention to this. I have just signed. Good Luck and keep us posted of course
  12. Thanks for your post Bindi. What a scary story This is why I don't trust off lead areas at all and my dogs have NEVER been in an off lead area with their leads off. My dogs are NEVER off lead outside our yard. Yes, I am paranoid Instinct is stronger, after all they are dogs, they can't help the allure of a rabbit, another little critter, or if they take a fancy to another dog I hope you are feeling better and you continue to get many doggie kisses ;) Take care
  13. Good luck with your pup. Be strong! Great name too I have a Humphrey too, a mini schnauzer
  14. I am sorry I have no advise but I just wanted to let you know that its lovely to see you care so much for him Do you mind me asking how old your parents are and what their knowledge of dogs in general is?
  15. LOL this is an interesting topic indeed Humphrey takes his time finding his 'poo spot' and has been known to do the 'up the tree poo' lol. Scarlett is much faster, which is good How many stools do your dogs do each day? I have actually wanted to ask that question many times and the 'right' topic has never happened, lol Humhrey does two poo's a day and Scarlett does three mostly. They are on dry food and chicken wings atm. Is this the 'right' amount of poo? I have always wondered
  16. Hey Luckypup What kind of costs are we talking about?
  17. Op shops and second hand shops are great for toys for our minis. And they are cheap! We don't care if they only last for a few weeks. When Scarlett was younger we let her have plastic rattle toys for babies but we always supervised her. She loved those! I was just at the op shop last week and got her an octopus soft toy. She has already ripped all its little legs off! Cheap and fun :D The other idea would be garage sales for childrens soft toys
  18. Isn't Ausgroom in Sydney this year? And am I right in saying that you are unable to get in unless you work in the grooming industry? I would love to go but I have never clipped a dog in my life Could someone shine some light on Ausgroom a bit more for me please?
  19. Hey giraffez I have a 6 month old female mini and she didn't really enjoy puppy preschool at all, she didn't like any of the dpgs in the class, however she did very well with lessons and what she had to learn, eg sit wait etc. In fact she was the best in the class. She isn't really keen on other dogs. Not DA, but isn't keen to make friends. We are planning on starting obedience in September. I am not an expert but I think sometimes people assume that all dogs will love each other when in fact that is not the case it seems. Obedience will be great. On another note our 5 year old mini Humphrey is a bit the same, he didn't seem to enjoy puppy preschool either in regard to making friends. He isn't interested in making friends with other dogs, he is more interested in making friends with humans Both our dogs get along well and are good friends. I want to stress to you however that neither of my dogs go crazy when we are out and about towards other dogs. We just keep walking or doing what we are doing. I don't really trust other people when they say their dogs are friendly. I have read too many scary stories. I protect my dogs and keep them from situations that would cause them stress or harm. By that I mean I do not go to off lead parks or beaches. Thats my two cents worth.
  20. This has been an interesting topic for me as we have a 5 month old female mini schnauzer and I find she is a bit 'private' with her poo's in particular. She will go in the garden away from anyones eyes and unless you are following right behind her you wouldn't know if she has poo'd. She doesn't do this all the time and we have found that now she is a bit older she is pooing on other places out in the open in the yard, generally in corners though
  21. Hi Sett Humphrey isn't barking non stop at her, just for a minute. She seems to push and push her luck though. Scarlett doesn't roll on her back all the time either, just occasionally. We are still having a drama though when she is trying to get on the lounge when she can see Humphrey sleeping/resting and she just goes for him straight away! She is game as a fox and is really persistant. As I mentioned before we don't allow her on the lounge unsupervised as she won't leave Humphrey alone I guess I am just being a bit weird and worried as we really want them to end up friends. Am I expecting too much too soon?
