How could a pup that young possibly have "Behavioral" problems?! He never got the chance to develop anything more than a normal naughty puppy might have. I can't believe the judge ruled in favor of the county, if the exerts from the legislation stated are direct quotes how could the county not be in violation of them?! Poor baby, he was gorgeous too!

Most of the others who have posted have a lot more experience with this sort of thing than me, and are probably right about him starting to push his boundaries; but I also had a thought that maybe he was feeling well...? A lot of dogs growl or snap when people tough them if they are sick or injured... I may well be completely off track, but you never know.

Tragic, so sad for everyone involved.

Oh, good work!! :D I'm sure all that knowledge will come in handy!! Well done... Have you had anything to do with administrative law? I had some interesting discussions with someone that this was the area we should be looking in to in regards to getting rid of BSL... No, not yet. I'm still in my "first" year (for the third year in a row... part time study takes ages!) so I won't be doing anything in admin law for a while yet. I'm focusing on Social Welfare and Family law.

Bwahaha - I just came back into this thread to write the exact same thing I'm actually a fairly full bottle on WA BSL at the moment, I picked the sh!t out of it in an exam last semester!

At least they got something right. Their safety tips were fairly decent too. *turns head and starts whistling* - (I'm a law student)

How Would You Respond To This?
StaceyB replied to NorthernStarPits's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would probably tell them that ALL dogs bite, the only way to eliminate the risk of dog bites is to eliminate the species... I would probably mention that most toddlers bite too... -
If the puppy classes are being held at the vets then the environment will be fairly clean, and the other pups around the same age will be at about the same stage of vaccinations. I took Gypsy to puppy school at our vets, it was ok for some basic training tips but was mostly info sessions for owners.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. What you, and everyone else involved did for Spice was a truly amazing thing. Spice had a rough start, but you gave her love, respect and dignity and that is something that you should be proud of. Be free Spice.

Puppy Vaginitis Delaying De-sexing
StaceyB replied to boxerbob's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would wait until after the first season too. Being prone to infections for the rest of her life won't be much fun for anyone. IMO, from experience with my girl, in the future I will be waiting to get any female dog desexed until they are a bit more mature. I got Gypsy done at 6 months and now she has spay incontinence and is more prone to UTIs. Had I known the risk before the surgery I would have waited. -
Ditto that!! We are in the process of getting a new gypsy coloured couch! Gypsy is not too bad, but she also suffers from contact allergies so she gets a bath once a week and that tends to help with moulting.
-
Gypsy used to get the daily, you could almost set the clock by them - 7pm every night! She grew out of it though. If you're worried you can get ask the vet about it when he gets his next vaccination.

This would probably be better in the Commercial Marketplace forum in Off Topic Becky. Lofty, as Becky2828 is not promoting any business that rule doesn't apply. She is simply clearing out products that she can no longer sell as her business has closed down.
-
I get the pet mince from leonards.
-
Ditto! You tried to help SR, thats all anyone can do. RIP little boy

I personally wouldn't get her spayed until she is about 12 months old. I got Gypsy spayed at 6 months old and she has now got spay incontinence. Any dog I get in the future (dog or bitch) will not be getting desexed until they are physically mature now. I can't tell you what to do either way, but most vets won't mention this side effect (or they don't know about it), I just wanted to make you aware of it. Had I known I would have waited to get Gypsy done, she's going to be on hormone replacement medication probably for the rest of her life now. It's gotten better, we've gone from medicating daily to weekly now but she still has the odd accident.
-
Gypsy gets contact allergies from grass and certain plants too (we don't have any wandering dew, thank goodness). I give her 6mg of Polarimine every second day, it keeps the itching under control really well.

I'm not sure about the travel time, but I've found South St Vets in O'Connor to be really good. They explain things really well and in a way that is easily understood. They handle the animals really well, both my cat and dog seem to like going there (cat doesn't like to travel too much, but likes the vet). The prices are fairly average for most things and their desexing is very very reasonable (with a free microchip too!) I know of a holistic vet in the Bibra Lake area, but I have never been to her so I can't give any reccomendations. Her website is here

Obedience Trainers In Perth - Close To Bassendean?
StaceyB replied to marica's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've sent you a PM. I found a website for Kathy McLeod, she does private home training sessions. I did a DOL search for her and a few members have recommended her so I've sent her an email and I'll see what she comes back with. -
Obedience Trainers In Perth - Close To Bassendean?
StaceyB replied to marica's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Snap Marcia! I was just going to post almost the exact same thing. CAWA is just that bit too far to travel during the week after work and our local obedience club is really disorganized and I'm just not happy with them at all. I'll have to try tracking down Sue Hogben.... -
Oh poor baby, what a fright! When Gypsy was loosing her baby teeth one broke off at a funny angle and cut her gums and was bleeding a lot, gave me the biggest scare and I rushed off to the Vet. She was fine and wasn't in any obvious pain but seeing all that blood made my heart skip a beat!
-
My vet told me that the only raw food I need to be careful with was Roo meat, but I can't remember the reason she gave... She said that raw chicken, beef & lamb was fine but to cook and roo meat. Gypsy has never gotten sick from it and neither has any of my family or friends.
-
My girl has skin allergies too, I tried her on Advance Sensitive Skin and she does really well on it. I also get Bonnie Complete depending on what the bank balance is like and what our local pet supply place has when we need more food. The local pet supply is a very dodgy looking place, but they buy up a lot of damaged and mis-marked stock from places like City Farmers so I can usually get a bag of Advance really cheap, the current bag cost me $60 because the bag got cut with a box cutter when they were unloading, they just taped it back up and I got a full bag for about $50 less than normal price!
-
I had that problem with Gypsy too, it turns out I was feeding her too much (I was feeding what the guide on the bag said) and she was still full from her last meal. I just halved what I was feeding her and she would gobble up what I gave her at each meal time. I also had to try a few different brands to find one she liked and I was happy with, we eventually got to Advance and she loves it and does really well on it.
-
As long as your pup is eating I think pedigree is OK. If you want to put him on another brand, just try gradually changing it over (i.e replace a little bit of the new food with the old in the meals and after a few days start adding more of the new food and less of the old) and see how he goes with that. Maybe also try giving him some raw chicken wings to chew on too, it'll give his little staffy jaws a work out as well!
