  1. Hi Ness, I'm actually heading over to the K9 grounds this evening to check out their training session and meet some of the trainers. Ptolomy, I've been on the website and am planning to have a look at the Southern River club. I'm also think about having a look at the Rockingham club. I'm SOR so the northern suburbs are a bit far for me to travel. Thanks guys.
  2. Hi Guys, I am thinking about starting to do Agility with Gypsy and we are checking out a few different clubs. I'm just wonding if anyone in WA does it and which club do you go to? Cheers Stacey
  3. My vets have always told me tu use a watered down Betadine solution on the pets.
  4. Before I came across this post I had no idea what prong collars were, but after reading up a bit I can definately see the advantages - especially for people who have disabilities or are not very strong - as long as it is used correctly and with proper training. Like all things (including dogs themselves) they can very easily be misused and I can see how they can cause a lot of damage to some dogs if not used correctly. I think that restricted use is a great idea. Perhaps if they were only supplied by Vets and qualified trainers (or only by trainers with a vets refferal) it would be a very good way to retrict the use.
  5. Thanks Poodle Mum. I don't have kids myself, but I am worried about other peoples kids who may not know any better. I wouldn't leave them unsupervised, but it only takes a seconds for something to go wrong. I really want her to be comfortable eating around people. she is very obedient and is happy for me to do just about anything with her, she also pretty good with other people.
  6. My Vet sells worming tablet in singles for puppies so we can always get the correct dosage. Maybe if you call around a few vets they will have them in singles too?
  7. PercyK, thats what I'm most worried about too, Gypsy being around kids when she has a bone - and obviously it's unacceptable for her to behave that way with me aswell! I sat with her when she had dinner last night and stroked her back, she was a bit snarly at first and each time she was told off, but by the end of the meal she was happy to eat while I played with her ears. I'll just have to keep it up and do that when she has a bone too.
  8. Thanks Guys, JackieW those articles are great! BlitznBear tahnks for the tips, I used to sit with her when she had her dinner and move the bowl around and pat her, I think I'll have to start doing this again!
  9. The way I look at feeding my dog (with any type of food - except for her kibbles) is that if it's something she would normally have in the wild and something that their bodies are designed to digest, then it's probably ok. I don't feel entriely comfortable giving Gypsy chicken wings or neck because of all the little bits, although I'm probably just paranoid! I give her turkey necks and big marrow bones from the butcher though and haven't had any trouble.
  10. I get pet mince from Leonards for $1 per kilo.
  11. My 4.5month Old Pup has started showing signs of food Aggression whan I give her bones. I gave her a turkey neck yesterday and she growled at me when I scratched her on the back, I said "No" in a very big voice and then she was ok when I patted her a minute later; but then she had it at the back door (outside) and the cat was sitting on the other side of the door watching her and Gypsy tried to attack the cat, if it hadn't been for the security door I think she could have done some serious damage, I yelled at her and took the bone (which she didn't challenge) and then gave it back to her a minute later. Gypsy has never had a problem being around the cats with her normal food. I don't know if I did the right thing by taking the bone away for a minute and I would really like some advice on how to stop this behaviour before it gets worse. ETA - She's had bones before, and she usually just wags her tail and ignores me when I walk past her and pat her. When I've given her pigs ears I sit with her and she is fine if I take them out of her mouth and give them back to her (in an attempt to stop this problem before it even started)
  12. My puppy got treated at the vet with revolution when I took her for her first vaccination at 6 weeks. As long as you use the right one on him/her you should be fine.
  13. I just did a yellow pages search for people in the area. It didn't even occur to me to look on the CAWA website! I'm looking there now. Thanks everyone!
  14. I'm in spearwood - South of the River ETA - I've sent of an email to "Bark Busters" obedience asking about methods they use but I haven't heard anything back from them.
  15. Hi Guys, Can anyone reccommend a trainer/training club in Perth, WA? I have just finished Puppy school with Gypsy, but I would like to get some further training for her in the next few months. Thanks Stacey
  16. I wouldn't be taking advice from Pet shops either - staff in there are sales people, not vet nurses or vets. If in doubt, call your local vet, they won't mind you hassling them for info - they will probably apprciate that you have called looking for the correct info.
  17. Maybe there was just something about the boy Rusty didn't like?
  18. Hi No Fear, I'm in Perth, but the vets are good to answer any late night questions. The number is 1300 652 494, it's Murdoch Pet emergency Centre run through Mudoch University (don't worry, all the staff are fully qualified). The worming tablets are weight based so as long as you know how much the dog weighs and have the approriate tablets it should be fine to give the pup the same tablets as the other dog, but probably just call your vet and double check first. I'm surprised they didn't give you anything when you got his vaccinations done...
  19. The 2nd night we had Gypsy I found worms in her poo too, We had taken her to the vet and had her vaccinated and wormed that day. I rang the 24hr vet and a nurse told me she was passing the worms because her body was rejecting them due to the worming tablet and as long as we keep up worming her every 2 weeks she'll be fine. We haven't had a problem since.
  20. Gypsy gets hiccups every night at around 6.30/7pm. I think it's hilarious to watch, she sits there trying to be all serious hiccupping
  21. Name: Gypsy sex: Female Date of birth: 24/5/07 Age: 16 weeks old Colour: Red Fawn Breed: APBT x Bull Arab Hobbies: Zoomies, playing with the cat (cat doesn't play back) Loves: Pink Pig, liver treats/pig ears & sleeping under the covers in bed with me Hate: the evil Mop from hell!! 1st pic is at 6 weeks when she came home (too young, I know) and 2nd is at 15 weeks, and 3rd is gyps looking kind of regal
  22. I would schedule toilet breaks. It's better to get the pup used to your routine rater than you getting used to the pups routine. Then when he has your schedule down pat you can make the time between toilet breaks a bit longer and keep doing that until he can hold it through the night - but that normally takes a few months, my vet says that most dogs can hold it when they get to about 4 months.
  23. Gypsy graduated from Puppy School last night and she won best girl for her perfect Sit, Drop and Roll! Very Pround of my little baby!! ;) She won some Treats, Worming tablets and Flea treatment - Yay, now I don't have to buy them!!!
  24. My 3.5 month old pup used to hate getting in the car, but we take her to lots of fun places where she gets to play with oother dogs and gets lots of treats so she loves it now! I tell her to sit when we get in the car - she rides on the front passenger floor - and she either sits or curls up and i give her lots of praise and pats when we stop at traffic lights and she is really well behaved!
  25. I would have thought that too TNT, but it's no-where near her belly button. I might just call the vets and talk to one of the nurses about it. Thanks for your response. Cheers Stacey
