What's Another Breed Selection Thread? Hehe.
Jumabaar replied to tianakaesha's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am sitting in a car with 1 lappie who HAS pissed off after a rabbit and didn't come back for quite a while, another who sure as hell would (she has managed to escape out of a crate but I managed to catch her before she got any speed up and a puppy who I can imagin will be like the other two!!! I would also like to point out the current conversion on the spitz thread being about destructive lappies!!!!!!!! -
Ok so to test these breeds working ability we have worked out what these different tests would have to be. From your statement I assume you want these available at every show................ I encourage you to add in the breeds that we would be testing with these 1- a persons lap 2- a lake with a barge on it 3- couple of lions 4- herd of sheep 5- race track 6- a few bears 7- several hectares of snow+sled 8- large monastery wall 9- various herds deer (multiple breeds both hunting and herding) 10- a car yard +"thief" 11- rats 12- rabbits 13- cattle (dairy and beef) 14- rabbit dens (with rabbits at the end, separate from the ones running across the top) + shot gun 15- ducks 16- drowning person 17- horse and carriage (with rum please!!!!!!!) 18- fire engine 19- few foxes+ several thousand hectares of british Forrest 20- raccoon Please not this is NOT an exhaustive list. I would enter this show because it sounds like a hell of a lot of fun!! This would sure boost numbers! I would like to also add that you would have to have very good enclosures for the lions to keep them from the deer and sheep, and wouldn't i like to cover the insurance for this event. So who wants to finance it...............

Do Dogs Know That Different Houses Have Different Ruls?
Jumabaar replied to Loraine's topic in General Dog Discussion
Unless they WANT to generalise- I taught Abby to use a small coffee table to get up onto the bed when she hurt her back. Now she believes all coffee tables are fair game, regardless of my attempts to retrain that they are not!! It has since also gotten to the point where she has decided other peoples dinner tables are also fair game thankfully that is only terraniks table and not mine!!!! That being said she knows she can get on the bed at my place but sleeps beside my grandparents place when she visits there. -

Question For Dog Trainers
Jumabaar replied to lovemesideways's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would also guess you need to decide where you want to head with that business and tailor your experience to that. ie do you want to train OB- then you might want to trail first, do you want to work with dogs that have behavioural problems etc. I know that word of mouth is the biggest draw for me- its how I have ended up going to all the trainers that I have worked with, although I know most 'joe public' will probably look at the yellow pages or similar. So ultimatly your quiestions would depend alot on who you were marketing too. -
Ooh great! Thank you! Woohooo! Though Walcha is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar away Might be worth it for a triple though! Come on :D I love a good triple country show! Yeah and Woof was wanting to do a few country shows! If you go, I'll go! Hmmm And I was just considering a placement at Tamworth........ I wonder if I could tie it all in!! It could ba a post Exam treat! Now I just need to get my hands on a neuter to show as well lol!

Is elongation of the palate common in Chi's? and are they often such poor whelpers? I have to say you are brave because I wouldnt really want to continue a line that could not whelp freely- I dont think I would be able to survive the stress!
-
Just to add- She has probably had a fair amount of reinfocement NOT to sit ie everytime she sat she would have been asked to stand. Just sus her out but a friend of mind had an exshowie that simply never learnt to sit because of her prior training so you might have to "capture it"- so when she sits and you see her make a big fuss so that she begins to learn that it is a good thing rather than asking her which used to stress my friends dog out. (NB it was more stress caused by confusion at being put in a sit rather than distress)
-
I feed mince because I need to supervise my dogs eating bones (I have two inhalers so after having to fish entire chicken wings out of their mouths I don't leave them alone) and often I do not have the time to sit there and watch the slow one take an hr to eat a bone! I give them meat chunks when I can but I can often source a better quality of food in mince so will feed that instead.

No.... she's not.... just me.... and I won't steal charch... (quick, while she's not looking, get him Nik!) MUHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!! To answer you seriously... Yep. We'll be there for Melbourne royal with the fluffers. Perhaps it will be a holliday of finding dogs (Shell can distract with fluffies haha) rather than losing them They are all really cute pics!!!!!

Hi FD, Just want to check- you go to Deerbush dont you? I would not ask for recomendations there- they are alright as trainers for normal dogs but yes I do believe that you and Sui would get further with some one on one proffessional attention . I wish I had done it earlier with my dog because once you have some good advice I believe you will be able to do great wotk with her. I have been to K9 pro and he would def be able to harness excitement. But go with a trainer that you will feel comfortable with and who has professional delt with this type of problem in the past. I listened to alot of well meaning instructors etc and it just confused my dog further as I was treating the actual problem and I have had to retrain him out of some of the stuff that I was advised to do!! Good luck!

Have You Ever Been Busted........
Jumabaar replied to DerRottweiler's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ummmmmmmm yes- in my excited squeeeeely voice. It is rather special due to the pitch that I can get to But hell it works!!!! Hell I do aeroplanes when the dogs hit the contact at agility!!! With the excited squeeeeely voice! I am usually the biggest nutter wherever I train lol. -
Actually my real current pet peevs are People recomending the same breeds in the 'what breed should i get' threads- even when they are unsuitable 5 minute experts in breeds/breeding (I know Im no expert!!) People telling me I have too many dogs (more of the I know better than you do types.........)
-
Even when the standard is followed there is a huge difference betweeen show dogs, and working dogs. ETA: Clarrification. I see many different "types" of aussies. All to the standard, yet all different. Different ends of the height requirement, different takes on what is "moderate" etc Oh yes, happens in all breeds. The one that gets me is the term 'bench kelpie'. Say what now? It kinda annoys me- I have owned AUSTRALIAN kelpies all my life. My first happened to come off a farm, mine now are ANKC registered. When I talk about working and show lines I refere to ANKC reg Aust. Kelpies and WKC reg Aust. Kelpies. Rather than bench/show vs working. My girl has been pegged numerous times as a WKC reg Kelpie- generally when on stock. I just get the shits when it becomes known she is ANKC that her working ability seems to dissapear but you cant take back what you have already said!!
-
My Kelpies can all wear coats when necessary. I would start when eating or generally supervised to make sure there isnt any chewing lol. Dont rule out allowing him inside though- I live in an open plan house and have three kelpies that are indoors when I go out (They occasionaly bark at the dog next door so dont want to get a complaint). They all sleep 95% or the day away in my (read their) room and dont venture out to the rest of the house. You could try locking him in the laundry/kitchen for 5minutes and seeing if he does get into mischief and extend the time....... If all his bedding is in the laundry he will probably just hang out there. ETA: I use weatherbeata coats on the dogs when necessary (generally just when they are sick, injured or we go anywhere super cold because they are sooks and dont venture outside much voluntarily when cold lol)

I am an excelent dog wrangler!!! Honest- I am necessary for all Niks serious Doggie shoots!! -
Abby (the one barking) and I It really does sum abby up completely. The white flecks- yep thats slobber!! PS TerraNik- where is the Ahsoka picture (I know you have one!)

So just cause people are prepared to pay x amount for a purebred dog justifies the breeder to take advantage of that? As for crosses going selling for more than the average pedigree pup ? Not so sure about that, in fact I beg to differ. I paid $1500 for my cavalier and I haven't seen any crossbred dog selling for that kind of money. I saw "PURE" Siberian Malamute puppies going for $1600 at a local Pets Paradise............... I guess that doesnt count as a crossbred in my area
