If that's right - every dog I've met including mine is dominant. Mine has been called an "omega" dog. She crawls into every greeting and rolls over and even pees sometimes, seems very submissive. Except when she's hunting in the hedge and she's in it for herself and I have to go get her (or hide and freak her out). She will quite happily take over leadership in any group of dogs or people or mix if nobody else steps up. She doesn't challenge though if some other dog says they want the whatever, she's very happy to hand it over. Although sometimes she insists on a game of chase-me first. And she has displayed some peacemaker behaviours as she matures. Is fascinating to watch. And is yet another reason why I have a hard time with the conventional definitions of "dominance". Mrs Rusty, my apology that your dog is not dominant, is disobedients you describe. Dominant in the true meaning not often come in the female dog, very rare and usually male trait yes. Dominant dog does not greet people becuase he think hes too good and he may have competition to submit, he don't like submit so he is aloof always. If the dog she roll over and pee is dead opposite of dominance in the trait. Out going excitment is not dominance in the trait, is different thing. Joe I don't think that you can say that it is mainly a male trait. I have met many many dominant bitches, where the boys (often entire) really don't even get a look in with the running of things. I am thinking that dominance is a an active desire to control situations, Second to this would be the ability to confidentaly do so. I guess this would rule out the generally confident dog who will just walk away from other dogs trying to take control so wouldn't say that dominance = confident.

I like "peacekeeper". I have a bitch like this one look and she can clear the room. She has never been in a fight and rarely growls if someone is doing something she deems not allowed (we have had to work on that a little), but she is defiantly the alpha bitch of the pack, and has been since 6mths of age. All the younger dogs have pushed her boundaries, and not once has she over reacted, nor have they come close to outranking her.

Some Good And Bad News...depending On How You See It
Jumabaar replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hopefully agility when she gets older. I think retrieving would be fun as well. I'm also interested in SAR as well, but I'm not sure she is the right dog for this (she is probably too old already!!) and if this is the right time for me to be doing it as i know its a massive commitment- i'm in my fourth year of uni this year, starting rotations next year. I do believe I saw you today- also in fourth year and only just made the connection!! I am the one on crutches -

Hi LMS My 4yrs old mini schnauzer ia having the same problem. I am just wondering if you have taken yours to a vet? If yes, is it serious? Thanks I think you will find in the OP that the dog has been taken to the vet and they dont know what it is, thus how serious it may be. -
I'm hoping they're there again this year too I dont think I need any more bowls, but if he is there I know I am going to walk away with some!!

Studio Sebastian do great ones. There was a thread with their number awhile ago. They are currently located in Taz To give you an idea- he had a stall at sydney royal and managed to sell an entire shipping container full before the end of the show!! Really good quality- they like return customers

I have one of those boots on now wagsalot- not very pleasant. I have to say walking the dog is rather dangerous- although its because I am so clumsy- all those hard bits of air on the flat pavement are deadly Lmao Not quite dog walking but- I had my dog (18kg kelpie) returning from a flyball run, and at that stage she used to jump into my arms. She didn't turn sideways like normal hit me in the chin with her head and KNOCKED ME OUT COLD!!!!! (no one realised straight away either because we had just won the race lol) I had the TINEST little bruise on my chin and the BIGGEST headache. There was some intensive training and she no longer jumps up at me on the way back!!

Eeeeeeep- Everyone Made It Through Surgery (pictures Added Page 3)
Jumabaar replied to Jumabaar's topic in Breeders Community
Another update....... All pups have now gained weight!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. They have been wearing collars during the day, so the littelies can be identified and get woken up for extra feeds- and the big hephalumps are left snoozing some of the time, and get put on once the littelies have had a let down. Abby was a little slow to come into milk, but its flowing like a stream now!! She has bonded really well to them. Our only problem is when a pup squeals so she jumps over the side of the box with her stitches- she is starting to realise that she gets into trouble for it but its still stressful! Hopefully there will be more positive updates Also further pictures can be found in their own thread http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=216538 -
Motivating A Sighthound In Obedience
Jumabaar replied to Merrirose's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have not experienced Sight hounds, but I did have a very distracted kelpie to train. I began for treating him when he took a treat- he was so distracted even this was a big task. Once he realised that taking a treat was awesome I started to make him look for the second treat which meant he was focusing on me. I dropped out the first treat by keeping the rewards coming fast, just for focus. I then increased the time between treats. It wasn't until he could focus on me that I started doing exercises. I quite often have to go back a few steps whenever I take him out but I have found he is working out how to make treats flow- I will reward him for any exercise when I am not actively asking him to do something rather than letting him become distracted.I would only do 5min sessions, but still reward him for focus between them. Not sure if this would work but it was how I approached the problem -

Would I be able to get a copy of this too? -

Nope, she just requires a foot rest so she doesn't worry about pups moving under her legs :D !! So funny if she doesn't prop it up she will freak out and very carefully get up so nothing is under her!! There is enough space for me to sit infront of her if she needs help- but thankfully this time she is working everything out on her own. Her milk came in last night so there have been many puppies in milk comas!!!! SSSSOOOOOO darn CUTE!!

Endurance Test 2011 Thread
Jumabaar replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have done this ride!! Unfortunately I am not able to ride for a while (ankle reconstruction), and my ET prospects is pathetic- Safire doesnt believe in hard work and Demi has put on at least 2kg since my surgery, even though I put her on a preventative diet a few weeks ago Perhaps in a couple of months we could do some training -
The time goes sooooo quick!! A couple of pics- the rest are in my "EEEEEp" thread lol
