  1. Ouch- perhaps start a new thread asking where people get their dogs titred. I pay $80 (+consult) I think for the bloods to be taken and shipped to WA with a turn around of a couple of days.
  2. Awwww. When I was little, my grandparents' GR would do the same thing. Sweet as pie, but my protector. Old Caesar was one of the reasons I got a GR. He was awesome, saved me from many a spanking! :D Honey is a great alert dog, she goes nuts if anyone approaches our house when we aren't home & often when we are home. I have learnt not to ignore her barking during the night, she has woken me twice when our bogan neighbour's house was surrounded by police. She's a good girl, but barking is all she would do, she's a chicken. She's one of those- "come help me" type of dogs, though she has a very convincing bark if you can't see her. This- Demi the Finnish Lapphund has a far more threatening bark than the Kelpies!! Most people come in expecting to see a large male Shepherd or the like, only to be greeted by a medium sized fluffer who is generally holding a fluffy toy (she somehow can still bark with said toy in her mouth) with her whole body being wagged by her tail!!! The Kelpies are scary because they all take turns to jump and hit the door while barking and they all look exactly the same so people can't work out just how many chocolate crazies are waiting behind the door. None of them would attack anyone coming onto the property. They would just let the entire neighbourhood know there was something 'different' in their house. \
  3. I was charged the same for the titre test as I was for a vaccination- well within spitting distance so don't be tooooo worried about the price. I agree about the KC too- don't bother unless you really have to.
  4. Titre testing would be my first call. I only do the two vacs with my pups then titre at 12 mths. So far have not needed a booster :) The article in this discussion indicated 12 weeks was old enough for protection:) http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/232169-article-on-vaccination/
  5. My dogs get an egg or two per week. I crack them into the bowl and the whole lot is eaten. No preparation and the whole lot is finished very quickly. (I am also very popular during baking as the dogs get the shells then too and I have 6 waiting pleading for a bit of shell!!) It is the ratio with phosphorus that is important, but I aim for a balance over a week or two, rather than trying to balance each and every meal and if you feed raw meat you should be fine. You certainly won't go wrong with an occasional egg. Just remember if you feed the insides of the egg to feed the whole egg not just the yolk. The body is pretty good at regulating slight irregularities, particularly with how much they will absorb from food :)
  6. You should be able to pick up another dog that's related to your boy from your breeder in time to come. You don't need your boy to sire a litter to have a pup related to him!!
  7. My Kelpie pups were 6kg at 8 weeks of age and there were 8 in the litter!! There is no way that pup would have been at a normal weight range at 6 weeks. Just asking- does his head look a little out of proportion to his body? If you do find anything (or nothing) in the blood tests I would probably be talking to your vet about seeing a specialist.
  8. Think I'll stick to cooking and mushing my own veges. Sounds far too complicated for me. You soak the food, then you don't, then you soak the food ... You soak the complete mix. You don't soak the premium mix. Quite easy really- I have never made a mistake adding water in the past 7 years
  9. I tend to mess with their calcium receptors a little through food manipulation. In the week or two prior to whelping I decrease the amount of calcium the bitch has on offer in her diet. This means that there is an increase in the number of calcium receptors/absorbers in the GIT. Its slightly more complicated than that but the end result is a bitch that is able to absorb more calcium from reduces the chance of milk fever because the increase in calcium given during after whelping is taken in more. I tried honey but it gave my puppies the runs. Nothing else is really given
  10. Perhaps look at chicken mince, roo mince and see if they have any turkey products. Mine loooooooove their turkey necks and it appears that no one likes turkey mince in my area, although woolies always stocks it an reduces it before it goes off so I buy it then cheap for the dogs! And if you find one dog does well on it do save up for the 15kg tub/refill. I am guessing thats why you are finding it more expensive. I put away money for it each month so buying the large amount isn't so big a strain.
  11. But if it has fresh roo meat in it..you wouldn't put it in a plastic tub in the pantry. I am asking about the premium stuff which already has the meat added..is sit a dry mix or is it a fresh mix......maybe I should find the website & have a look, but others have said they couldn't find the info they wanted.....I will get off my butt & have a search :D From what I have seen the premium stuff sits in the fridge at the pet stores and is already made up. I personally don't find it toooo expensive, but I feed my dogs less than the recommended amount. I find it great for putting condition on dogs ;). My youngest pups are the 5th generation on VAN!! I don't feed it exclusively as I find kibble easier when going away and I use fresh veggies etc. I am actually wondering as some of the dogs don't do amazingly well on kibble if there hasn't been some selection over those 5 generations to do well on raw rather than kibble?? Thanks for that info....I have had a look on the website & couldn't find anything to do with prices re the Premium Mix....so how long does it last in the fridge & can I freeze it?????? What do you pay for it ???? I use the mix, not the premium stuff. I can't remember how much, but it was more than what I pay for the mess I feed my dogs currently.

  13. Only NSW does that...which is why I never had personalised plates in NSW :) Its so silly that the different states have different rules like that. All my older cousins have personalised plates, bought by my grandparents for them for their 21st however by my 21st it was a yearly fee and I decided there was no point them getting them for me I ended up with my grandfathers plates when he stopped driving. FJ 010- I have no idea what they mean but have got some comments from car nuts about them lol
  14. If it hasn't grown then don't panic. You have been an excellent owner and found it early!!
  15. We train together so there is no difference in training, and SX allows dogs Deer Bush to run with us while they are getting together a stable team. So for the time being there isn't all that much difference, except who you pay your dues too. It's just a shock to most people who rock up and get all that explained to them. PICSI has only just managed to get a team back together- I think it has been a couple of years since they have had one. Paws have one team running and have some really nice beginner dogs. Thunderdogs have a stack of teams and I have a feeling you have to pre book into their beginners course in advance.
  16. The important thing with NILIF is to understand that your have to really try and look for opportunities for your dog to succeed. It sounds like you have gone into a spiral of her being naughty and you running around telling her that she is being naughty. Now you have to change the way you think and go around looking for an opportunity reward her!
  17. It does sound like a puppy- that thinks it knows how to beat the rules. I think NILIF is a very good start. Perhaps you could look at some youtube videos on how to do some retrieve training with your pup. It sounds like she has a heap of instinct so you might have more luck going with it and then using what you learn to put in more rules.
  18. It would probably be Deerbush on a Thursday night rather than Southern Cross- we train at the same place, its just that Southern Cross was not accepting new members and Deer Bush is. That might change but just letting you know :)
  19. I saw that although I didn't agree with all of it. Kelpies can live very very very happily in suburbia!! But you do need to go into their ownership with a sense of humour and be willing to keep them amused :)
  20. You wouldn't believe how many people keep asking is my chocolate LABRADOR, "Red Dog". Yes I would
  21. I know many Kelpie breeders, particularly those with solid red or chocolates put off breeding litters around the movie release time. They wanted to avoid people doing impulse buying a breed that is amazing, but not for everyone. The real test will be in 5mths time to see how many 'red dogs' have been dumped......
  22. Heart worm is transmitted by mosquitos, which is why it gets done monthly in mosquito areas. If you are feeding offal as part of your raw feeding you will either need to freeze the offal for 20 days at -20 degrees or worm your dog with an allwormer that treats hydatid worms.
  23. Was tha last bit directed at me ;) I'm not even telemarketing any more. It's worse door to door coms only I've made no sales Thanks for all the replies :) I'll go see the thing in person but judging by the responses here not sure that it will be a smart choice. The guy I'd be working for doesn't own a dog- I think that worries me most! I am sure you will go into it with your eyes open. And I guess my statement really didn't mean much since I would probably do garbage sorting before I did telemarketing. See what he is like and ask if he has a contract upfront. If he doesn't RUN!!!!
  24. Just going off topic- I live in Campbeltown NSW and would love to gain real experience with grooming (not the 2 days of 'training' i was given). Can anyone recommend anyone to talk to? I would be happy to just hang around to learn as I have glandular fever and am as weak as a kitten so couldn't actually DO alllll that much so I don't want to apply for a job. ETA- If I had the choice between your current job and doing the mobile grooming..... I would be doing the grooming!!
