  1. My Lab was desexed after 12 months and he never mounts anything One of my greyhounds was desexed after five years of age and even when we had a bitch come into season here, he displayed zero interest. If anything, he went out of his way to avoid her.
  2. I've purchased from them before and I'd definitely not recommend them (for a number of reasons). To answer the OP, my greyhound has a Black Dog Wear backpack, it's pretty basic but it seems comfortable enough and he doesn't try to get it off.
  3. Assuming it was a joke, he should've known the likely outcome of it. It'd be like joking to your child's doctor that you have sex with them (the child, not the doctor)- you'd expect (and rightfully so) that the doctor would take steps to prevent further mistreatment, even if they didn't have physical evidence. Suspicion that this sort of abuse may be happening should be enough to warrant police involvement, in my opinion. I'm sure some consider the reporting an overreaction but where there's a question of gross mistreatment, better to be safe than possibly allow it to continue.
  4. There were some (typically) blurry photos taken a while back by an aboriginal tracker up in WA, Google is being unhelpful with the site that has copies of them (from memory it was in Spanish) but it had a few different shots and excerpts from an interview with the tracker. It was quite an interesting story, despite how unlikely it is. Hmmm...let me know if you find a web version I'd be intrigued to read it. Obviously I should be asking some traditional land owners when I'm up north!! ETA: The size of foxes here in suburban Melbourne is getting quite scarey, I have seen one between small and medium dog size in Doncaster. I managed to find this.. Somewhere in amongst the spam comments for Ed Hardy clothing and knockoff designer handbags, there was a link to the site that contains a scan of the full article and the original images. Edit- Found it.. http://thylacine.1979.ws/ it's the August 9th entry.
  5. I give them to the greyhounds and we haven't had any problems
  6. When used properly, there is nothing inhumane about static bark collars. In some situations, there is simply no other option and I know of several very responsible and caring owners who use them. Personally, I'd prefer a static collar over a bark muzzle yet the bark muzzles are legal everywhere. With a bark muzzle on, the dog can't eat, drink or pant properly (regardless of what the manufacturers claim ) and they seem to cause a considerable amount of stress to the dog.. seems worse to me than the occasional shock when the dog barks

    Cheyanne

PTS at 11am on Sunday morning. Sooty will miss you Cheyanne I'm so sorry I couldn't be there with you.
  8. He'll be safe at the bridge Ellz, He'll have Molly, Sharkie and George to play with
  9. For Ellz... The naughty little baby when he first arrived (pictured with Brinny and Sooty, his little accomplises)
  10. Both of them? I didn't think Animal Tuckerbox would sell puppies or kittens because of the deal they have with the Tas Canine Defense League but Pets Domain.... their stores up here are always stuffed with crossbreed puppies (usually horrible combinations like JRT x kelpie ) Oh yes they do... the new animal tucker box in the city, across from K & D on the corner there, had puppies beagles for $600. they had kittens and baby bunnies, as well as the fish and bird population. Very disappointing We'd been recommending Animal Tuckerbox (for food) to adopters solely because they didn't sell puppies and kittens I hope they're not planning on starting to sell them at the Launceston store....

  12. Sure does. From what I know, he focuses a lot on clicker training and seems to use it to fix most problems so that would make me slightly wary....
  13. He gave us permission to use his articles in our newsletters but to be honest I haven't had too much of a chance to read his stuff  He seems to be pretty good though (from the little I have read)
  14. Anyone read Pottenger's Cats? That had some interesting recipes (for people) that could easily be adjusted for dogs. The Brain Eggnog certainly sounded really disgusting interesting I did have a copy but can't seem to find it.
  15. So sorry for your loss CDM :D I hope the puppies are going to be ok without her...
  16. The dog had previous vaccinations (required as a racing greyhound) so I can't see any reason to give a booster. The dog is now a pet, will live mostly inside and won't be boarded or exposed to many other dogs.
  17. One of our foster carers had a dog vaccinated at a vet we don't normally use and when she forwarded me his vaccination card, the vet had noted that Rani (3 year old dog) had recieved a C5 vaccination (although he hadn't bothered to note brand used or attach the stickers ). Beneath that, he had noted that Rani was due for another KC in one month Our vet has never recommended a follow-up KC vaccination, what does everyone here think? Would you give another KC vacc only a month after a C5?

    Sharkie

It's a bit of a long story but basically, he left us a well behaved, gentle dog who loved the company of other dogs and was returned to us after he and the GSD he lived with attacked two dogs that wandered onto the owner's property. We retested him with a couple of Lhasas and he was perfect but further testing with other breeds revealed a very serious aggression issue. He seemed to be "keen" on just about anything canine that moved (even a rottie ) and we didn't feel he would be safe to rehome It was a horrible decision to have to make, I just wish I knew what exactly happened to make him so prey aggressive towards other dogs. Sharkie

He was a really stunning boy. His condition when we got him back (from the people who adopted him) was just awful though. He was crawling with worms (almost literally) and it looked like they hadn't groomed him at all since they got him. Below are some pics for comparison - Sharkie when he was first with us. Glossy black coat with beautiful muscle tone. - Sharkie when he was returned to us - Dirty coat, without a shred of muscle left (they hadn't been walking him).

    Sharkie

Sharkie - Our first foster hound and the dog I'd always wanted, Sharkie went to his "forever" home in September 07 but returned to us in December. Our possum-munching, bed-shredding, sweet boy was put to sleep at 2pm on Saturday after weeks of struggling to find a way around the inevitable. Sharkie, I would've kept you if I could. Looking back on it, I should never have allowed MJ to take you away from us, away from the family who loved you and Kiff, who needed you (you should've heard him crying the night you left). If I knew then what I know now, you would have stayed with us forever. Wait for me at the bridge, sweet boy. RIP Bright eyes, Burning like fire. Bright eyes, How can you close and fail? How can the light that burned so brightly Suddenly burn so pale? Bright eyes
