  1. No as usual, you just can't read, at lease on the forum I can requote what i've already said. Now incase you want to say "lolz i thought u couldn't poast" Are you suggesting that Troy magically know the IP of every PR supporter so that he can ban them before they've ever said a word? Seriously.. just.. god, I miss Mister Rolley Eyes Man.
  2. Erm, no. It looks very much like a studio shot. Its eyes don't look glassy, they have light reflecting from them. A quick Google search confirms this- here you go, the same "stuffed" dog... http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/103924/112450418/stock-photo-portrait-of-a-purebred-rottweiler-in-studio-112450418.jpg and some more.. http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/103924/103924,1257665944,2/stock-photo-rottweiler-the-girl-of-years-on-a-black-background-40457938.jpg
  3. Your family believe he died because he was pedigreed? What did he die of? No they believe he had the condition because he was a pedigree dog. He died from complications following surgery to correct the condition and it would have taken his life without surgery anyway. The condition is a known health problem of the breed. If you want to know more you can PM as it is taking the thread off topic. I think it's probably worth pointing out that even if a breed does have known health issues (PRA, HD, whatever), at least it as a known issue and when you buy a dog of that breed, you know what to expect and what your risks realistically are. Compare that to a crossbred (especially the dogs that are so crossbred, it's impossible to pick a breed in them) where you never know what you might end up facing (or how much it might cost). I think, to a certain extent, the general public judge the purebred dog more harshly because it is expected that the dog should be of much higher standard (in terms of health, temperament, etc) than a crossbred because it has been purposely bred. In some regards, that's a pretty fair call but then, there are plenty of people purposely breeding crossbred dogs so the same standards should apply there, also.
  4. Recent thread on the brand- http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/244970-meals-for-mutts-kangaroo-and-lamb/
  5. ^ That's what I'm talking about. More of that, less sh*t-slinging and whinging.
  6. And.. Destroys all the credibility of the article. I think the people who wrote this article should probably be made aware of how it makes them look (crazy and very elitist) and that they are very likely doing damage to their own cause with misinformation- the general public aren't quite as stupid as some groups like to believe. Agreed - its all well and good to have a certain philosophy on what is best but cross the line and sound like a bunch of fanatics who cant see the whole picture and everyone stops listening and know you to be as much loonies as the other side. You see it every day here on this forum and often realise that show breeders are often their own worst enemy. It's not too different to the animal rights people, yeah. Quite ironic. They'd be better served in pointing out to the general public the reasons we don't want to lose good purebred dogs- and there are heaps of very valid reasons- rather than stoop to the "shelter pets are always inferior" bit. Except you have to also understand that to most people who breed registered purebred dogs, who put so much work into trying to get it right its understandable that they would see shelter pets as being an inferior product. We all choose the dogs we do because we think our reasons and our choices are best. I wont take a shelter pet over a purebred puppy because I think they are inferior but I understand that some people think they are not and choose differently to me so Id like to think if they were intending on taking a shelter pet that they were able to source them from reputable rescue. However, people taking shelter pets or cross bred dogs in Australia isnt in my opinion placing purebred breeders in a position where they cant find homes for their puppies. The people who buy Rescue and cross bred dogs are not the same people who buy our puppies. Some people have a mix of both. I surely do! I have an Aust.Ch purebreed and a shelter/rescue dog that happens to clearly be a purebreed. I can't be the only one? I kind of get where you're coming from but to say/imply all shelter pets are of inferior breeding or that people who have/buy/show/breed purebreed dogs would not choose a shelter/rescue pet is false. Then there is the fact that some shelter pets are purebred dogs. Judging an entire group of dogs based on where they end up is no different to judging an entire group of dogs on where they started out (for example, being against purebred dogs only because those dogs were purposely bred and the breeder possibly making money from them). While I can understand breeders might feel as if they're under attack, they need to put on their big girl pants and respond with facts and reason, instead of trying to throw others under the bus. Throwing rescues under the bus loses them even more support and does their cause no good- the general public have enough experience with shelter pets to know that they're not all disease-ridden Cujos just waiting for someone to maul while also shredding the house in a massive fit of separation anxiety and toileting inappropriately indoors.
  7. Second this. I use the Fido's White and Bright on the hellhound and his skin and coat look really great. He's mostly white and seems to attract dirt/odd smells (like dead bird :/ ) so he gets bathed at least once a week- we've never had any skin issues from it. I think it's worth pointing out that there are two types of whitening shampoos; ones that use blue/violet pigments to cancel out yellow staining (like the Fido's) and onces that use bleaching agents to remove staining. Then there are some that combine the two methods.

  9. Attacking shelter dogs to push their own cause, nice Up until that point, I was totally in agreement but sh*t like this.. And.. Destroys all the credibility of the article. 10. For the extra nasties (parvo, lepto, etc), F10 or Virkon would do the job just fine. It's worth bearing in mind though that neither of those products contain detergents so while they'll disinfect, they won't actually remove soiling. For poundies, if it were me, I'd spray out with something like the equinade disinfectant first (any disinfectant with detergent in it), leave it five minutes, wipe it clean and then give it a few minutes to dry before spraying out with F10 (and then leave that to dry completely before the next dog gets in).
  11. Nope, there's also Virkon. Although it has to be used within a couple of days of mixing it up. I only use Virkon for grass (because unlike F10, it can do grass reasonably well). I use F10 for concrete and the weekly disinfects and for general daily stuff (like tidying out crates after dogs have eaten in them), I use Equinade disinfectant. It really depends on what you're cleaning for- for general cleaning, things like Equinade or Delete (although Delete smells like hellish death to me so I only use it on outside things), for things that might be contaminated with something serious, Virkon or F10, depending on the surface. You could also use bleach but it can damage metal and I'd definitely not use bleach on a crate.
  12. I can't see how a greyhound could possibly get stuck under one (assuming they could be bothered to empty it out and tip it over to start with) so we have one here. The last foster dog to use it was Sophie (last summer) and since then, no one goes near it. I live in hope that the sand monster (the grey in the right in the sig) will actually start using it, instead of digging herself sand nests (because that results in her getting sand on/in everything she goes near). Mine is positioned up against a wall and in a bit of a corner so impossible to trip over unless they're headed right for a wall anyway.
  13. I didn't even post anything offensive on that Dol Forum Beware page. Just silly "Look at moi" stuff. Nobody loves me D:
  14. I am and it definitely doesn't work. I get the "Page Not Found" message.
  15. http://www.petmovers.com.au/ <-- Is that the same people? I assume it must be to get the website registered as a .au
  16. Is it a part of the company Dogmovers, perhaps? I've never heard of Pet Movers- maybe check the website registration, see who owns it? Edited to add.. Is this the one you mean? - http://www.prestigepetmovers.com.au/ Re-edit.. Or this- http://www.petmovers.com/ Re-re-edit.. Was just looking at the second site and..
  17. I echo this ... and about quotes, I was pleased to see the woman advocating larger dogs for elderly people. So many people think: weak, can't lift up, etc etc and so advocate small dogs. I can't think of anything much more dangerous than small dogs around the feet of older people. The trouble I see with Stan in a situation like that, Stan's Mummy, is that once he'd found a bed, would he move? Jealousy would be rampant - LOL - unless he selected a different bed every day. I was interested in that they took the colour of the dog into consideration. All the things to think about. Wonderful. That's pretty disappointing. I get the feeling black is the colour they're trying to avoid and given how many greys are black, that's a very bad message to be sending to the public. I disagree, residents in nursing homes often have poor sight. A black dog lying down inside can be hard to spot. Every nursing I've ever been in has had either white or very pale floors. A black dog would stand out very clearly, even in the dark. If your nursing home has black carpets, by all means pick a lighter dog for safety but in this case.. I don't believe safety was the deciding factor in the colour choice. why are you trying so hard to find fault? It's a great article, great promotion for greyhounds and you're hung up on colour even though they explained the reasons for it. White dogs are easier to see. I'm entitled to my opinion and in my opinion, it's a flimsy reason for excluding black dogs. Simple as that.

  20. We feed raw so rarely run out (have to buy it every week) but last christmas, I didn't buy enough to last me until my meat place opened up again so we had to do two weeks of kibble and supermarket meat for the dogs. They weren't happy about that. Now, we keep a small supply of kibble (currently ToTW- it results in monster poo but I haven't been able to find a local supplier for Ziwipeak) and there's also canned fish in the cupboards to improve the appeal of the kibble and enough people meat in the fridge/freezer to last about two days on top. Not that we've needed it this year- after last year, I got a bit panicked and bought a heap of meat for the dogs' freezer. By "a bit", I mean "filled the freezer completely". About 200kg to last us four weeks I'd worked it out on the assumption I'd have two foster dogs here besides my own three dogs- 5 dogs = 5kg per day. 5x7=35 per week, 35x4=140kg + 30 because I have to order a week in advance = 170. So 30kg to buffer. As it turned out, both fosters got homes and I'd included the hellpuppy when I actually get his meat separately so really, I only needed food for two dogs for four weeks (70kg, including an extra week's worth). Basically, I bought double what I needed. But as far as the dogs are concerned, better too much meat than having to eat any amount of kibble :p
  21. I'll admit I skimmed them very briefly, mostly because I could see no connection beyond the name. I couldn't see a profile pic for either What, not this one? https://plus.google.com/100833015288656952184 Nope, wasn't seeing anything. When GM posted the picture, I had no idea what she was talking about or why she'd posted it Oh, well that picture on the AceDogClub G+ and twitter matches what her DOL userpic used to be, which is a stock photo. So, I guess if you wanted to still call it a coincidence you could, but it's all a bit weird. Plus a lot of the concent on the AceDogClub is american specific, like "Removing Skunk Smells", and half her "advice" just links to random internet webistes like WebMD and howstuffworks.com Well, that makes sense with her using the word "mom". Although why an Australian website would have an American writing for them, especially if the posts relate to things that don't apply here.. odd. The guy who runs AceDogSupplies seems to be a bit of a weirdo anyway, based on this http://www.dogtrainingmasters.net/ That looks like one of those standard dodgy "The Secret to.. whatever" sites. There's one for just about every topic you could think of. Even the layout of the age is the same as others I've seen. That aside, the first bit I actually read through mentioned being the "Alpha" so.. three guesses as to who it's basically copied from. And.. ell-oh-ell. Just finished typing that, flicked back to the other tab, read down a bit further and.. Derp.

  24. I ordered something from her in July, last year. She said it would be in by September. Waited until September (it didn't arrive) and then tried to contact her about it- and now, despite previously prompt replies, she isn't answering emails. The last email I sent, I asked if I could just have a refund but no reply to that, either. It's been six months so I think I've waited long enough.
