  1. Pretty sure they're $600. Are they ads or sponsored stories? There is no set price, you can spend as much as you want. So you put money into your FB ad bucket, and each "view" takes money from your bucket, so once your money bucket is empty, the ads stop appearing. You can put $10 in there, or hundreds, or thousands. You can also get pay-per-click ads. I got some ad credit when I got my site hosting so went with that option. I just blocked the PR ads and selected "Misleading" as the reason. The ad had some garbage about "dog jail" and having to look at it was making me want to slap someone.
  2. Box 1 Gold used to be the same thing but now it's actual kibble, not sure why they changed that (I'd still not use it though, it's definitely not a high quality food) Ingredients do look the same (from what I can recall, anyway- the last time I bought Box 1 Gold was about 5 years ago). As for onion.. while I wouldn't have a major freakout if a healthy dog accidentally got a bit of cooked onoin, there's no way I'd purposely feed it to my dogs. This explains it fairly well- http://drsophiayin.com/blog/entry/onions_the_secret_killer On the same note, I'd not feed garlic on a regular basis, either. I don't believe it really does much against fleas and there are far superior flea prevention products anyway. Edit, typo
  3. I'd second that- speaking from painful personal experince. A tiny unseen scratch can go on to become an abscess and OHMYF***INGGOD, they hurt.
  4. By that logic (logic that I can't believe is not trolling), marathon runners would just.. keep running until any damage they'd caused themselves by running had gone away. Of course, that running would also cause damage so they'd need to run a bit more. And then that new damage would need to be run off. On a related note? Do you know what lactic acid is, my under-bridge dwelling friend? :)
  5. This was my contribution to the discussion. Just my thoughts. Until those with opposite opinions decided I should told why I was wrong. Also my opinion. Sleeping is sedentary, nothing much happens to a sedentary creature. Activity is the catalyst for health. For pumping the blood, invigorating the lungs, for burning the calories. That's what I know. Sleep is for rest. While you are welcome to your opinion, the fact is, your opinion happens to be incorrect. Plenty happens during sleep that either does not happen or only happens very slowly when the creature is awake. Muscle repair is one of those things (which burns a lot of energy) and for a working dog, that seems a pretty vital function. Sleep is not for rest, it is for recovery.
  6. Didn't someone have screenshots of it though? It was on one of the pages relating to PR, I'm sure.
  7. I recall reading somewhere that the dogs had been poisoned with Ratsak? Besides that..
  8. Mine would starve :D That's sad. Same here. Actually ingesting it is enough work for them :p Having fed both kibble only and a raw only diet, I noticed a huge difference in appetite. On kibble (super premium, tried several brands), at least once a day, more often twice. On raw meat.. meeeeeeh, whenever they feel like getting up and eating. The Sandmonster hound often won't eat dinner yet she remains festively plump and is in great condition (sand aside).
  9. This is what I do but even then, I put dinner down and two out of three hounds just roll over and go back to sleep. It's not like they're being fed Chum, either- it's raw mince stuffed into chicken frames or pieces of fresh sheep, still on the bone- the foster dogs go nuts over it. I think part of it as that with raw meat, it's so filling and provides so much for them that they're not inclined to eat every day (except for the fat, old glutton dog who'd eat all day, every day if he had the chance.)
  10. I imagine it's because they have several different and diverse areas of interest, so a page for each subject makes sense. You should ask them H.A. That's a real tricky one. If the group is open for everyone to join, who gets to say that someone can't join if it's an open membership? If they answer the survey, whether truthful or not, who's to say they can't have their stars and their membership if they've answered the questions? Geeze, that's a tricky one. Glad I'm not on the committee. I do know of a rescue support group that has temporarily terminated the membership of one particular rescue group due to the amount of complaints coming in. They're conducting their own investigation into the allegations and the group won't be listed in the meantime. Yeah.. I think until I get further information, I won't be joining. A CoE for members would at least reduce the risk of ending up associated with dodgy groups.
  11. All I want to know is.. will PR/STARS be allowed to join Narga?
  12. The first link I provided, MN herself. Although quite a few anti PR names in there as well so IDK what the go is. Not trying to make this another PR thread though so that's all from me :) You missed a couple of Narga pages there- http://www.facebook.com/pages/Narga-Kidz-4-Petz/460383727346325?ref=ts&fref=ts and the Narga Foster Care Training module which I can't seem to link to for some reason.
  13. You need to have an account to have a page though, no? And personally, I don't want my own account.
  14. I have an FB "page" and then just an FB account. So far as I could see, when setting up FB stuff on my website, it could only be a page, not an account (but I didn't like using the page, so made a normal account also). Oh- and I also have a private group for current members for voting, discussions, etc (and the odd bit of bitching, at least it's a safe place for members to vent). I'll admit I hadn't even thought about how that might look to other people.
  15. You will notice who is an active poster on the Narga Forums FB page... I haven't had any caffeine today, need more hints *cough*
  16. When PR are giving other rescues a bad name by adopting out unsafe dogs, absolutely. Allowing them to be included, despite their actions, would make no sense to me (assuming they have been allowed to, who knows).
  17. Uh oh, maybe I joined too soon. I've contacted them and asked them to suspend my membership for the time being and said that I would like to know who are on the various committees first. I've also expressed concern about a post on their facebook page involving Pound Rounds. I won't be involved in that. I'd like these two things sorted before I consider re-joining. Especially given the latest craziness with PR posting up all those names of other rescuers :/ Personally, I think first step should be to establish guidelines, even if they are just very basic. Something like.. "member rescue groups will not operate in such a way as to severely damage the reputation of rescue in general" - i.e rescue groups will not rehome dangerous dogs all over the place.
  18. This is the reason I think I'd be disinclined to be involved now. When I first heard of it, they were just getting started and hadn't even finalised their incorporation. An association that does not allow members to decide who leads them (or at least allows members to know who leads them) is not one that really interests me a great deal- it's just a small group of people who have an opinion and want a larger body to back that opinion up. Beside that, I will not involve myself in a group that may be associated with PR in any way (and currently, this cannot be confirmed or refuted, either way, because no one knows who is running what).
  19. Same here. We'd previously always used Jetpets but they've lost my business to Wayne- he's great to deal with and knows what he's talking about :D
  20. I have owned more yellow collars and leads then red. Yes there is always the exception to the rule. But majority more people would have red than yellow. My Dad actually tried to buy a yellow collar for his dog and couldnt get one I have heaps of yellow stuff and I don't even like the colour Compare that to red.. I have a single reddish-purple collar that one dog was wearing when she came in. might be a greyhound thing :D but I have to confess my yellow stuff was used on the GSD's. I only have a brace lead now in yellow. I'm fairly sure the yellow stuff breeds. I keep leads, collars, muzzles in plastic storage boxes and damned if sometimes, it looks like there's more yellow. Yellow-strapped muzzles are a definite reproducer. I have only ever bought three yellows but I'm sure I've seen at least four in various places. Compare to black stuff.. black should be really common because a lot of dog stuff is basic black but.. Can never find a plain, black lead.

  22. Kiff's goes back to 180x on his sire's line and to 182x for his dam (oldest record of his lines is 178x). Although I've seen pedigrees for racing dogs all the way back to 177x which is quite impressive, given most people would have a really hard time finding names/birth dates for their own family members going back that far. It is definitely interesting to be able to see trends in sires though. Down here, using Irish dogs is currently fashionable. I know of a breeder who paid $14,000 for an Irish bitch, with the intention of breeding her back to a dog of Irish descent to make more Irishy dogs for whatever reason. Greyhounds also have the Greyhound Stud Book which is published most years and can be helpful in finding names/dates that don't get added to the database for whatever reason.
  23. naughty people in your link have stolen the logo from a dog charity! http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/ Classy. Personally, after hearing some not-very-flattering stories about the behaviour of the company that imports these collars into Australia, I'd never buy from them anyway.
  24. I'd say that's a pretty good set of guidelines. Only thing I'd add is more on poo :p Input vs Output- How much is actually getting digested. On their current diet, my dogs get about 1kg a day and output is probably only 100g or so. On previous diet, I'd put a few cups in and get roughly double the amount back out. The poo- What kind of effect does it have on grass. When we fed our dogs Advance, their poo killed grass at an ungodly rate and took a very long time to break down (was basically impossible to compost). Compare to current diet where the grass in the dog's favourite poo spot is actually the only grass that's doing really well (still green ) when the rest of the lawn is completely dead. It also breaks down quickly when composted. I actually used a heap to fill in a big hole (dug by Doug) and after it got a bit of rain, a whole mass of grass and weeds sprang up over that patch- the rest of the lawn in that area remained bare, even though the soil had been dug over by Doug. I've actually ordered myself one of those proper poo composters so that I can use the poo to fix up the lawn* (we have clay soil so keeping grass happy can be hard). *Clay won't allow the composters to drain properly so I plan to install it, use it until half full (including the enzyme tablets to make sure it breaks down safely), fill the rest in with soil, move it to new part of lawn and repeat until (hopefully) I have actual grass on my lawn, instead of packed earth and the occasional sad tuft of weeds.
