I'm going to make some assumptions here, based on Tasmanian law, so bear with me.. Down here, you need council permission from both the previous and the new council to sell or give away a declared dog. Does the same not apply in QLD? I would think that before anything was agreed to with council, obligations (as far as the new council area goes) should have been dealt with first, to make sure the transfer was possible?

According to their website, the bags are 40cm long...that's a big bag! It's not a bad price for 600 bags, they should last a few days (Casper's nickname isn't "Poo Bear" for nothing ) I use these bags and they're great- lots more room in them than most of the other brands we've tried and they feel more sturdy (I've put my fingernails through cheaper bags and I can tell you, it's not a pleasant feeling). I really wanted the matching dispenser but was outvoted because apparently our house already looks too "crazy dog people". We have several dogs so it definitely works out being heaps cheaper than anything else I could find.

Oh, I didn't miss the point of your comment, I just wanted to point out that the videos aren't really about promoting the country Australia, but promoting adoptions. We're in Australia and we'll eventually be taking our camera around communities and getting people involved in them (and lots of different voiceovers with lots of different accents), and one of the things we wanted to do was link back to local pounds/groups around those specific areas. So the 'documentary series' is very Australian in that sense. These videos are just the first two, purely designed to bring a bit of fun in. Probably should've been clearer on that - just didn't expect people to get so hung-up on a voiceover. :laugh: And going off what you'd said previously, your video with your pet would have a Russian voiceover. So we can have the best of all worlds and the production can still be Australian. *head-desk* Still missing my point. What difference is there between your video and the American ones? Nada, right? You mentioned a lack of adoption videos made in Australia but if there's no difference between one and the other.. do you understand what I'm saying? Anyways, good luck with it.

Some people seem to take the OL idea way too far. A member of a dog group I'm in got soundly abused because she was asking about importing a pup (of a breed not found in Australia) and was told she should be ashamed for wanting to spend all that money getting a dog in when so many were dying in pounds. I pointed out that not everyone wants a rescue dog or a mutt and was shouted down as being a supporter of puppy farms. I then mentioned that although I rescue, the OH and I owned a purebred dog from a breeder* and.. yeeeeah, it all went downhill from there. *Besides being a naughty little beast, it's been a great experience- she's healthy, she's behaviourally normal (which is a nice change) and we have absolutely no regrets. Apparently wanting that makes us bad people. But anyways! Could someone post a link to the other FB page? I can't find it.

They're my dogs so, we did. ;) It's made in Australia, by an Australian advocacy group. I'm not Australian but I think that's also missing the point entirely. :) I think you're missing the point of my comment- there was nothing about it that identified it as being Australian (if anything, I'd have guessed American, obviously). It's a cute video but.. It doesn't mention Australia, no aspect of it suggests any differences, it might as well be American. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why you'd ask for peoples' thoughts if you don't actually seem to want them. If you just want positive feedback, perhaps make that clear so that people don't waste their time replying? Also, please check your quoting.

Her reply was just.. bizarre. Waffling on about how she didn't want to defend herself because.. something, something something, enough words to confuse the reader into thinking she'd written something profound, something, something, something, doesn't bother to actually address any of TD's points, something, something, thanking people for understanding that she's a super special snowflake and her dog is exempt from the rules we all have to follow. Pretending to be humbled and to have learned something from her situation is a slimy dishonesty that suggests to me that the only thing she's learned during all of this is how to manipulate people and shift blame. If she's actually willing to own her mistakes, why not admit that her dog is facing death not because of the tewwible, mean council but because she let him down?

Totally agree. If they don't care enough to contain the dog for his own safety, I guess I find it a bit "off" that they'd suddenly care so much when facing his destruction (despite how many times it could have happened under a car while they mismanaged him).

The cynical part of me wonders if perhaps this is going to end up being used by the AR movement to force their own ideals onto others. If an abused animal is a victim of assault or neglect, how long before a slaughtered cow becomes a victim of murder? Or a chicken kept for laying eggs the victim of wrongful imprisonment? The first example is really no different from the second two :/ Obviously harsher penalties are great but I think this is a bad way of going about it.

According the the current schedule, the kennel application costs $72 (+ the rego fee for the extra dog, which $18 if the dog is desexed). The ad in the paper (has to be Examiner) is around $250 but this is a once-off cost. After that, yearly renewal is $55 + dog regos. /enabling

I have fed drumsticks but only when I couldn't get frames. Frames have much softer bones and I just feel a bit safer with them. Plus, they can be stuffed with meat and frozen, which the dogs enjoy in the warmer months.

Phone the council and ask to speak to Garry Causon, a kennel license is fairly easy to get and you don't need a "reason" for the extra dog.

No, it isn't. I can think of quite a few Whippets that would respond to aggression in kind. The idea that all Whippets are shrinking violets is a myth. If a small dog did that to one of my entire boys, it would be on its back in a flash. He doesn't brook that kind of behaviour. Don't subject either dog to a situation that is clearly very stressful for them both. Leave your dog at home when you visit. I'd agree with this. The OH's Shitty Whippet is a very bold dog and will put the idiot greyhound (who is three times her size) in his place if he's playing too rough. If anything, I'd say she's actually a lot more confident than many of the greyhounds I see. Not that the whippet's temperament really has much to do with the situation- I don't think it's appropriate to put any dog in a position where it's likely going to trigger a negative reaction in the resident dog.

No luck with the slides that were sent off so my vet has suggested biopsy (of the mass itself and also the nearby lymph nodes as they're very swollen) and chest xrays, and she's booked in for that on this coming Wednesday. The lameness definitely hasn't improved and the meloxicam doesn't seem to be touching the pain- she wouldn't even get out of bed for a piece of soft cheese and she seems very flat. One of the other dogs (a foster dog) has started picking at her so we're now having to do the crate and rotate thing until alternate placement can be found for that dog. Unfortunately, access to specialists is very limited where we are so we're not going to be making any plans until we know what's there. My vet is worried it may have already spread and if that's the case, options are going to be very limited anyway.

Two days ago, I noticed a large lump on my old girl's neck that hadn't been there the day before (bit bigger than a golf ball). Several months ago, she'd had a large lump under her jaw that completely disappeared in the two days we were waiting for her vet appointment (vet checked salivary and lymph glands, all normal). Our vet said to bring her in immediately if anything similar appeared so after finding this new lump, she went in yesterday. Needle aspirate showed suspect cells that were today confirmed as mast cells. The slide has now gone over to Melbourne and my vet will have results for that in a few days. In the mean time, just wondering if anyone has any experience with relatively large mast cell tumours? Especially if they were located around the neck region as Sally's is apparently right next to her jugular vein. Has anyone here had such a large tumour successfully removed and if so, did more develop afterwards? The dog in question is greyhound, ten years old and up until these two lumps, has been in excellent health. Besides the new lump, she seems otherwise well but has developed a noticeable limp in both front legs (vet said this may just be arthritis) This is the previous (disappeared) lump when it first came up. It was not tender or leaking anything and was completely gone within 48 hours. New lump is much larger and touching it gets a flinch out of her so I'm assuming it's sore (vet prescribed anti-inflammatories to deal with that).

Dickish people tend not to recognise their own dickishness. Seriously, I'm just surprised that anyone would think it's okay. It's literally a case of "my dog's shit doesn't stink" (and therefore everyone should be grateful that I put it in their bins, instead of leaving it on the ground because apparently those are the only two options I have).

This. Putting poo in other peoples' bins is (in my opinion) really rude. Especially if the bin has just been emptied. In fact, putting it in a freshly emptied bin is beyond rude, it's dickish. Would the OP enjoy smelling some other dog's crap in his/her bin for a whole week?

The Shitty Whippet not only sleeps on our bed but under the covers, between the OH and myself. If she's warm and comfortable, she settles better, which means more sleep for everyone. The Idiot Dog sleeps on the bed during the day and we've never had any problems with either of them plotting to overthrow us. Harry Cooper needs to lay off the happy juice.

Seems likely. Livamol has molasses in it and I've never had trouble getting a dog to eat food with Livamol added to it.
