  1. Pug British Bulldog French Bulldog Boston terrier Boxer Neo Mastiff Old English Mastiff St Bernard Chi's smooth or long coat doesn't matter Irish Wolfhound or any of the hounds really just love their soulful eyes
  2. My head would want to but my heart would probably say no, I don't think I could have one of my pugs die and then allow her body to be used like that even though I realise how beneficial it would be.
  3. I have a blind pug who does really well, blindness is no reason for a dog to be put to sleep. It's nothing really and they cope so well with it.
  4. Firstly really sorry to hear of your loss. Yes we always stay, could never let them go out of this world without either me or my hubby by their side. It's one of the hardest things you'll ever have to do and no matter how many times you go through it it never gets any easier. But you put on a brave or not so brave face and you stay with them until their final breath. They'd do it for us wouldn't they if the rolls were reversed.
  5. Good on you for taking him in, he looks like a real lovely boy. Take care
  6. Just wondering about the older pugs actually. I've often thought about the real oldies and what ages they are living too, they are living longer these days which is fantastic. Some of the old pug books say that they can live up to 12 but the books were written 20 years ago. Just curious. Thanks in advance.
  7. My pugs love tuna-well fish of any kind actually. I make fish patties for them and pop them in the freezer, you can quickly defrost them in the microwave. As long as you don't put onions in they're a great meal when you get home late and are in a rush. And because the tuna or salmon is mixed through the entire patty they eat the lot and love it, it's a great way of getting plenty of other veggies into them at the same time. I think fish is great for everyone on the family including our dogs, the benefits are fantastic.
  8. I have pugs, they'd never allow it to happen.
  9. I've never had a problem with bloat and I have a little stand that put down for one of my pugs who has arthritis in her neck, she has trouble eating otherwise.
  10. I guess it pays to have our dogs registered and all their details up to date and to make sure they cannot get out of your yard.
  11. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with 'Este Lugar de Suenos', which translates to 'This Place of Dreams'. Thank you Swiss Girl I figured that the animals that come here have already lived through a nightmare of abuse and neglect in their previous homes, so that's why I liked this or I may just use the word dream and look up the word for dream, dreams or dreaming in other languages and see if I can find something pretty. Thank you to everyone who took the time out to make suggestions, I liked so many of them and you all gave me so many lovely names and idea's for names to choose from so thank you so much for that.
  12. Thanks I like the idea of an Aboriginal name. They are very spiritual people who care for and are connected to the land. They respect it. Animals spelt backwards is a good idea as well I would never have thought of that.
  13. Mine all have one sardine each with their breakfast everyday, I get the homebrand one in tomatoe sauce, not oil as they already have flaxseed oil added to their diet. They all love having them.
  14. Really liked New Beginnings, Haven of Peace, Valkama, Second chance retreat, Furbbles Farm and Harmony Acres. Like Nirvana too but there's one up the road. My friends refer to this place as the Ark due to the look of our house and the animals roaming, it's been a standing joke for years actually and I did think of using it at one time. I've also thought about naming it after one of the dogs that I've lost as I like that sentiment. Didn't want to have rescue in the name as I didn't want to find a box of kittens and the like dumped at the front gate- long way from the house and they'd be dumped and driven off before I could get down there. The one I'm leaning towards is 'Este Lugar de Suenos', which translates to 'This Place of Dreams', as I love the meaning, thanks Swiss Girl. But before I decide are there anymore suggestions out there. Thank you to all or you for your suggestions, can't believe I've been trying to think of a good name by myself for over a year, should have asked all of you sooner. Oh by the way, we are on a hill overlooking many green hills and most of the trees on the property are Gums. Thank you so much
  15. Was just wondering if any of you had any idea's for a name for our property? I live on a small farm and every animal here is a rescue, we have dogs, sheep, horses and one pig. Just wanted something beautiful and meaningful to reflect the happy harmony of all the animals living here. Some of the animals came from terrible homes, had been neglected, abused or where sick when they came and are now healthy, happy and growing in confidence. Thank you in advance to anybody who takes the time to respond.
  16. First of all good on you for wanting a pug, I've had them for over 20 years and just think they are fantastic. Personally I won't have cat and pugs together. As much as I adore cats, I no longer own them, not with the pugs it's just to dangerous really, you can't be there all the time and even if they are the best of friends accident do happen and it's painful for the pug not to mention expensive. Also you can't blame the cat if it did take a swipe at the pug, cat's swipe at things, it's in their nature, it's just what they do weather playing or as defence. Googly eyed dogs and cats just don't go well together, it's just the way it is. If you own a pug you've always got to be careful of their eyes there's no getting around it. Of course pugs can hurt their eyes on all sorts of things, and it can get dear, my cheapest eye problem cost $150.to fix my most expensive to date has been $2500. I guess you'd just have to decide which one you want the most and go with that. I hope you choose the pug though as they are the most special little breed, I can't speak highly enough about them. I don't think you'd be sorry for choosing it. Like you'd have your new pug for a week and be saying to yourself cat, what cat? Take care and good luck with it all.
  17. I have beds all over the place, some like to share while others like to be by themself, then the next day or week things will change so I just have more beds then dogs just so they have a choice.
  18. Reading the last 16 pages it seems everyone's dog started with fits at young ages. My Gracie is 12 and although I've only had her 2 years -she was a rescue- I know she's only just started with the fits in the last couple of months. My husband said he thought she had a few when she first came to us but I never noticed them - and I notice everything about my pugs believe me- he never said anything to me at the time so I don't know what was going on with her then. All I know is that for the past few months she's been having night time fits and I'm worried sick about her. So does anybody know of any dogs who've developed epilepsy in older years? Or does she not have it at all and I should be looking for something else and going to another vet for more tests? I just want to do the right thing by her she's such a brilliant little dog and I love her with all my heart.
