What Do You Think Of This Rspca Ad?
Boxerheart replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I get Angry every time I see this, firstly they want to abolish pure breeds, then they imply it's our pedigree purebreds in the pound. In reality.... it is mostly the miss begotton mutts from BYB. I include any purebred that is bred from unregistered or limited registered parents. -
I have one bitch with 15 nipples, raised 2 litters, all produce milk.

As A Breeder, Are You Running A Business?
Boxerheart replied to Puppoochi's topic in Breeders Community
The Tax office would define you as having a hobby, any money you make is irregular and you are not turning over a profit. To be considered as a business by the ATO, your income would have to be seen as regular, and be in excess of 20K a year for over before you could claim your losses. If you were to put in a tax return annually on your kennels you would not likely to make enough after losses even to pay tax. I don't think anyone should be peer pressured to answer emails they don't want to...in any case any business will ignore what they consider inappropriate email. -
In Tassie, they do not even have the place ribbons at the offices, most club committees will make sarcastic remarks if you ask for your reserve challenge. Will do them if you insist but you are made to fel like dirt. Some are now starting to not want to do the group certificates. Honestly..make a more positive and welcoming environment, the numbers will grow as will the helping hands. In saying this there are some clubs who do not make one feel crummy for asking for a prize that is rightfully theirs. But in my view, showing is no walk in the park, and all awards should be respected. I do a lot of PR for my breed as I can, and educate people against puppy farmers..

Once upon a time the dog show scene had more to offer families with slightly older children who wanted to show. There was a thing called place ribbons that ment even if you only won a place you took home somthing for your many hours of effort and your entrie fees. Then the showies who have been around and are accustomed to winning the bigger prizes pushed to abolish the little ribbons in order to keep entry fees down. Now even if you win best of breed you have to go and ask the secretary for your prize, the Sashes are becoming tiny more like ribbons, you have to beg for any reserve CC's and some clubs even make you ask for the best in group cards. Entry fees are still going up. Tell me honestly..what in hell is there that I can use as encouragement for a new pedigreed, dog owner to go showing? There are no small incremental awards! An airy wave of the judges hand does not cut it! I have to tell them showing is tough and that they are not likely to find friends withing their breed. That they should look to find their friends outside their breed, and see the whole thing as a dogs day out, but not expect to walk in and just clean up as there is nothing they will get for the lower awards even if they get a place. What child teenager does not like to win a ribbon? Even I liked my ribbons. Add to that the sheer cost of getting to the shows. The show ring will be dead in 10 - 15 years unless it gets it's act together, (already numbers have reduced by half) and with its demise what is the purpose of purebred dogs now...here come the oodles. Add to that the continung reluctance of many judges to fairly treat previously docked dogs with tails, and the unwillingness of the ANKC to phase out the showing of docked dogs to level the playing field, more will walk. I know many who have. I will not be in the showing game much longer if things do not improve..I give it 5 years and the bias shit had better be over by then..and as showing is largely touted by the RSPCA and breed organisations as as a measure of the quality of the dogs and breeders...I don't know that I will be a breeder indefinately either. It goes hand in hand. If the show clubs don't stop catering to the "heads" and "faces" at the top of the food chain, they will not bring anyone new in. JMHO at the obvious

How old is the puppy? at 8 Weeks the eyes should no longer be blue. Do not buy a puppy less than 8 weeks old. I recommend also buying only from a registered breeder. In addition, before you shell out cash and rush in to things, spend some time researching the breed, its history and it's standard, and you will understand it and know what to look for. Google www.worldwideboxer.com/ Hire books from the library or buy: (* Must reads for Boxer fanciers) The Complete Boxer - By Tim Hutchings * This is the Boxer by Volpe* My Life with Boxers - Friederun von Miram-Stockman * The Boxer - Anna Katherine Nicholas

Hey Sway I placed my first order with you this week. Looking forward to recieving -
My vet shows and breeds Dalmations. She was telling me that she vets her buyers, and sold one to a couple with plenty of money, ideal home set up and the promise the dog would be part of the family. One week later they returned.... they had bought a new car...the dog did not mach it, could they have a pup another colour. ...gawd...As long as there are people like that in the world. But I guess Breeders are responsible for the F Wits ?

http://google.blognewschannel.com/archives...liest-dog-dies/ http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/features/m...for_worlds.html http://www.lulu.com/static/pr/11_23_05.php You cannot say that those dogs are all just ugly from old age. Yep we can. 1. 14 is about 80 - 90 years our time. 2. Skin gets thinner with age, it loses about 3/4 of its thickness, by age 40 years it is already thinner by half. It becomes paper thin and fragile in old age, that transulent look you see in the elderly. 3. The Chinese Crested dog of that age is the equivalent of looking at a 80 - 90 year old man or woman, balding and losing their sight.

Occasionally this happens in Tassie and it discourages newbies and causes disgruntlement with oldies. I know of one club that does not allow the staking of claims overnight.

I own breed, show and do obedience with my Boxers, and am considering getting a second breed and one which may be more suitable as I get older. I am hoping some breeders will contact me and help me understand the breeds strengths and weaknesses so I can make my mind up if this is the way I wish to go. Mentors please share your wisdom. I can be contacted initially via email [email protected]

White Boxers are more genetically predisposed to deafness. Which is a big reason breeders today would not want to use them for breeding even if they could be registered. Some backyard breeders think it's great to breed a white Boxer with a white. This just increases the risk. White colouring in Boxers originated from a dog called Tom, a British Bulldog of old type and similar to a Boxer, not the heavy fellows people know today.

Here is an excellent site that shows many comparisons www.worldwideboxer.com/

Maybe we should compile some of these tips into a specific puppy biting thread and ask for it to be stickyed

Letting her into your bed when she arcs up so you can sleep in is telling her she is Boss! .......get a citronella collar instead ...and leave her out of your bed.

Yelling ouch and pulling your hands away etc just make you into a big exciting squeaky toy and makes things worse. Don't make eye contact. Ignore it. Push it gently and casually away without a word and without making eye contact. Learn about being a pack leader...etc etc This problem has been reitorated in here again and again. It's puppy behaviour..just as with small kids there are proven ways of dealing with it. I can only say one thing x3 PUPPY SCHOOL PUPPY SCHOOL PUPPY SCHOOL. OWNERS need to learn too. Not aimed at anyone in paticular but I can't help but wonder why people get animals before learning whats involved, or without going that extra mile to learn whats involed.

Sounds like you know what you are doing.... Arrrgh, I feel for you as you keep at it! The only other thing I can think of is a time out room. Banishment for a set time each time he tries it on. I have heard this works..but have not tried it. In theory..it would be the ultimate way for the pack to ignore him, thus asserting dominance. Or Crate train, as it is the lowest member of the pack who usually guards the den..which would then become his crate not your whole house.. And following this thought through, it would then be special to be with you in the house. Good luck!
-
Consider it a bite! It is dominance behaviour, he is either testing you or already of the opinion that he is your pack leader and that means he will no allow your touch unless he wishes it. Have you been to puppy school and learned about pack hierachy? Has he been socialised? Do you feed him when he demands and not make him work for it (even a simple sit and wait?) Have you ever put him in submission? If you are letting him on furniture and your bed, feeding him without making him earn it, letting him barge past you, stepping over or going around him when he is blocking your way these are just SOME of the things that have told him you are deferring to him in his leadership role. He is a big dog. Get thee to a trainer now is my advice...quickly. Note..due to lack of info I have had to assume the worst case senario. More info is probably required to know your Training knowledge. Cheers.

Fast fix Anti jump harness is available...then any of the above.

Just realised the pup has been returned..but leave this response anyway. If you want to keep him, make him an outside dog. He will have to toilet out there then, he will have no other choice. So your girls can play in peace and he does not learn to be agressive. Get him a dog run. Put pavers down if your hubby wont lay you a slab of cement. That way he is secure with his kennel and his run. Plenty of kit form runs out there. Your girls are then secure in their play area and so is the dog..and you can train the dog with the positive reinforcement method when you put the baby down to sleep. You do not want your children participating or interacting with that dog until you have control of him and understanding of how a dogs mind works. Then you have to teach your children and not leave them alone with him. This may take up to 12 months. But good dogs are made by training..the breeder can only give you the raw material. I am sorry..but I can't help see this as a very sorry situation for the puppy. How could it be expected to bring a dog baby home to 3 human babies...expect it to know and expect it to have manners like a trained mature dog - what it will take your human babies at least 15 years to learn. You are letting your kids hit it when it knows know better. It will one day respond with aggression and then it will be it's fault again? Dogs are not toys for children. If YOU can't devote a good 6 months at least of puppy training on a daily basis at home, and puppy school for socialisation NOW for a 6 week class... maybe it is too soon for you to have a dog. That's the black and white of it. That puppy is learning now very fast..not good things..but he would be scared too...always being in the wrong..and not knowing why. You have a lot of work to do..FAST..or rehome that dog before it is ruined...fast. Sorry...but there is no nice way of getting the point across.
-
Yep ..you can get them from the health food shop and some vets who are open minded. Homopathic practitioners can also make it up. The best one I have found though is to be "Bachs Flower Rescue Remedy". It is fast and effective. A couple of drops under the tongue in emergency. But maybe with your guy..morning and night before bed daily. Then to before bed. Cheers

Suggest you look into crate training your puppy fast. A dog sees a crate as a den. If the den is a small one (initially) with just enough room to sleep..then puppy is not likely to mess the bed. You will need to be vigilant and offer the puppy exercise and many opportunitys to go to the toilet in a spot you designate, and when she piddles use a trigger word like Toiley, Piddle, shake a leg etc etc. Rather than in the bed of your daughter..she should be perhaps in the crate beside the bed to sleep. You are risking behaviourable problems putting a dog in bed with you, or in an elevated position..as you are telling the dog it is higher or at least equal to you in the pack. I know some people don't care, humanise their dog and some get away with it with very good natured dogs...but a lot of dogs lose respect for the owners and become difficult to train and handle....then they get branded as being naughty or stupid. A dog may be invited up by you the pack leader... for visits..but they should not be encouraged to expect it as their right. Sounds like you are doing your best..animals are always a learning curve, as are each and every individual.... goodluck..I wish you much joy with your new pup.
