Whippet Fun Day Healesville
sigzephyr replied to Kirislin's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I see. I guess all black and white hounds look the same to me. You are right Zephyr's blaze is longer. That greyhound didn't look very big to me either. Thanks for clearing up my confusion. -

Those two pics look like they are of the same dogs at the same time with the same people as well. Not that it matters. Zeph loves the racing no matter who he is racing against. -

That's no greyhound. I think that is my Zephyr. -

I have tears rolling down my cheeks reading about beautiful Jordy. I'm so sorry for all you have been through. It must have been so hard. Jordy was a beautiful boy. :D -
Maybe the reps have a vested interest.

My whippets weigh 11.5 and 14.5 kg. I usually use the advocate 10-25kg on them. One each. I need to buy more and noticed for $8 more I can buy the Advocate for 25+kgs. Would it be ok to get this one and try and split it between the dogs? It would save a lot of money if it was an option.

I have two sweet, quiet, placid whippets....until we go for a walk. They become possessed. Is this what is referred to as leash aggression? They bark scarily at other dogs who they meet while walking, although when off lead and interacting with other dogs they are fine. I feel this is due to my older girl feeling anxious. She has always been a bit anxious and this seems to have increased since we got our next dog and as she ages. What can i do to help the situation, or at least make our walks more enjoyable. At the moment I just pray that we don't encounter other dogs.

I use a dremel. I clicker trained the dogs like in the youtube vidoe below. The other site has great info on how to dremel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgEwiH8CeUE http://homepages.udayton.edu/~merensjp/doberdawn/index.html

Kibble/dry Food That Premium Or Better
sigzephyr replied to chuckie500's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
sigzephyr, just letting you know that there is no recall on the dog food as it has tested fine so unless its actually still unopened you won't get a refund, just thought I'd save you a trip if it's opened They are no longer stocking the dog food in Australia. I had about half a 13 kg bag left and they are going to refund my money. I dropped it off to them today. -

My 11 year old whippet has been on Orijen and she has never looked better. I 'm so frustrated at having to find another food, but i have no choice as Orijen are pulling out of Australia. I think we might try Artemis. I'm taking my Orijen back tomorrow for a refund. -
My whippets were both raw fed, but I have changed my girl over to Orijin. She has had skin problems for the last few months and the vet has not been able to find a cause. We were spending so much on vet visits i decided to try her on Orijin. She still has a raw breakfast but has Orijin for dinner. No poo or fart problems and her skin has completely cleared up. Here are some before and after pics:

Are people still using this? Can I get an update on what you think? I am thinking of trying it for my senior girl.

I use Virgin coconut oil everyday. I oil pull with it, and also use it as a moisturiser and hair treatment. I sometimes cook with it too. It is solid in the colder weather, but becomes liquid as summer approaches. You can melt it easily by putting the jar in hot water. As a moisturiser it melts on contact with the skin.

The Correct Way To Walk Dogs On Leash?

Help. My two whippets pull on walks. What should I be doing to stop this? -
No the other dog hasn't bitten her. She does sunbake, but it is weird that it is inside her ear. I only worry about the GA as whippets are very susceptible to anaesthetic. I think I have almost decided to go with the more complete option which involves the GA.

Last night I found an ugly, sore lump in Ms. Sig's ear. I took her to the vet today and he is not sure what it is. It is crusty and very sore when it is touched. He is not sure if it is cancer, or a scabby wound that has healed strangely. I have a few options. She can be sedated and they can scrape it away and hope it heals ok. Or he prefers to put her under a GA and remove the lump fully, and biopsy it. The lab will be able to tell us if it is cancer. I am nervous about her going under GA at her age (she is 10), and don't want to risk losing her, only to be told it wasn't cancer. I'm really not sure what i should do. He says if it was his dog he would go with ther biopsy. This option costs a lot more, but that is not a factor. Here is a pic. Hope you can make sense of it. Have any of you seen something like this before?

Thanks for the help. I've just trimmed them. There was so much fat on them. They even had fat within them, which I couldn't get out. I hope i got enough fat off. Maybe I should throw them out. I won't make that mistake again. Only ended up getting 4 dinners for $10.

I have just got some lamb flaps for my raw fed whippets from a new butcher. These ones have a thick layer of fat on them. Do I need to trim all this fat off before feeding them? They are really much fattier than the ones I usually get. I don't want to risk my dogs getting sick. Any advice?

The one I have is not a Dremel brand. I got it from my local hardware store. It is called a mini hobby engraver. A wood working tool really. It is cordless and has about 50 different attachments. As i use it for nails I have only ever used the sanding drums. I have had it for the last 4 years and I will pay the extra money to get a Dremel next time as they have different speed settings, but this one has been fine. I think it cost about $25.

I use a dremel and just take a little bit off at a time until i see the "core" of the nail change consistency. Dremelling regularly helps the quick to recede as well. Here is a link: http://homepages.udayton.edu/~merensjp/doberdawn/index.html

We have just bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 for our son. It is a fantastic camera. Do check around for prices. We saw it at a large camera store for $599 and found it online for $450 including postage, and it was delivered the next day. Pics are fantastic. It has an amazing zoom. Forgot to add that price also included a memory card. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonictz3/
