Bumps On Ruby's Back
PoodleAntics replied to luv mini schnauzers's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Extract from Encyclopedia of Veterinary Medical Information Schnauzer Comedone Syndrome This is a condition affecting Schnauzers that produces comedones, or pus filled bumps that are usually mostly on the back of affected schnauzers. This is an inherited condition that will be present throughout the dog's life if it is the problem. There is no cure but good nursing care can make this much less of a problem. Applying benzoyl peroxide shampoos or gels can help a great deal. Usually twice weekly bathing or gel application is sufficient. Clipping the hair over the affected areas and keeping it short can help in some cases. Application of astringents such as witch hazel has been recommended by some vets and may be beneficial as well. Some Schnauzers will respond to isotretinoin (Accutane Rx) but I think this is still a pretty expensive treatment, especially considering the need for long term use. -

Ava / Sydney Uni Warning On Dog Food
PoodleAntics replied to Winterpaws's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
KraMar recalls chicken treats for dogs KraMar, the importer of Chinese-made Supa Naturals Chicken breast strips, says it has recalled the dog snacks as a precaution following reports of kidney damaging illnesses in dogs around Australia. Testing has been carried out on every shipment for bacteria and the poison melamine. Brian Fouche, KraMar’s chief executive, says a link has not been scientifically established. “It is a mystery to us, but in the interests of animal welfare we have decided to take this decision,” he said. Dr Linda Fleaman from the University of Sydney says the normally rare Fanconi syndrome has been seen in a large number of cases around Australia. “The one thing that is common with all of the cases, is that the dogs have among other things, eaten a certain chicken treat that has been sourced in China,” he said. “Although we have no idea what the cause of this problem is, we are concerned there’s a link between the feeding of the treat and the emergence of this clinical syndrome.” The Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) has issued a national warning to all vets to report any serious kidney damage in small dogs in the past month. “We have only become aware of this in the last three or four weeks, and we need to make people aware there are some clear indications there is a problem out there,” AVA national president Mark Lawrie said. The AVA have told vets and small dog owners to look out for warning signs of increased thirst and urination, reduced appetite and lethargy, vomiting and weakness. Vets have been urged to contact the University of Sydney Faculty of Veterinary Science via email [email protected] if they have suspected cases of the poisoning. Chicken Treats From China Beware
PoodleAntics replied to Lizzy06's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm still confused as to whether those products pose a threat. Both are just dried chicken breast and when you look at the ingredients all it says is chicken breast. So would there still be harmful additives in them  They also say 100% natural too. Luvabull, I am with you on this as I have been feeding my 5 poodles for up to 2 years on the Wanpy Chicken Breast as the Wanpy Company has been audited by our very own AQUIS and the "Dry chicken Jerky" is certified by HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) which is a systematic preventive approach to food safety. My 2 cents worth
