Loves Dogs

I answed other as I have 2 very different dogs (personatlity wise). My male is 22mths old and I have now reverted to only letting him play on lead. His excitment can get over the top and turn to dominance aggression. If the other dog is submissive thats ok but if not we have problems. He loves to play with dogs and is friendly but if I let it go on to long thats when the over excitment happens. My girl who is 5 would prefer not to play with dogs and will walk away if a dog comes up to her when she is off lead (usually they get the picture and leave her alone). On lead I only let her say hello to dogs she knows (and I know) as she gets cranky with new dogs she cant get away from(she feels trapped by the lead I think). I now know my dogs and their behaviours very well so am lucky I dont have many incidents. I am aware they are not perfect and I think that is the key. I do get a bit upset if people have their dogs off lead and allow them to come up to my dogs on lead as I think it is unfair to assume that because their dog isnt aggressive its ok. Im sorry but its not and thats where I find I have most of my problems. I think it would be so lovely to have all dogs off the lead playing all the time but my dogs are just not like that which is a shame as they have been socialised since 8 weeks of age very regulary to try to avoid these behaviours. I have excepted the way they are and now try to work around them. Dont get me wrong they are still punished for showing any aggression but its in them and better to avoid it in the first place I say

As a breeder of over 30 yrs I am happy to help newbies but do prefer joint ownership to start. Do not mind if it is a male or female as long as everything is laid out in writing beforehand and both understand the terms. I am not getting any younger and am always keen to help although have had a few back lashes over the years especially if the the new owner can meet the ones who have some of my dogs in OZ. I am in NZ but as I am a transport agent it is no hassle for me sending pups over and I do not charge exorbitant prices either. All stock is clear of early onset cataracts either by DNA or parentage and all my testing is done at AHT, Newmarket, UK. Have imported semen from USA and the sires have many health tests done and have OFA clearance.Am always gald to help. You sound like someone who would be really good to talk to in a few years when I will be looking. Are you able to send me a msg with what your kennel name is? That way I might be able to get in contact with some of the people who own your dogs as well as your self. I am still researching the breed so any helpful hints that you can let me in on will be great. Also what are your thoughts on bostons exercise limits. If its appropriate I would love to do agility with a boston as well. This is short (maybe 1-2 mins) bursts of running and jumping small jumps. I am Rossdhu Kennels of Auckland NZ and my daughter is Devine kennels. I have an 18 mth old girl who is commencing her agility career next weekend. Her owner has made her up to a conformation Ch and has been preparing her for the agility ring and going by a video of the weaves she should do well. I was at the BTCA Nationals in Reno and saw the bostons doing obedience, agility, jumps and rally-o and all doing it very well. Most impressive and have seen it in 2000 as well in CA. Hope to hear from you sometime Thats so exciting. I will definately keep you in mind for when Im looking. As I said wont be for a few years but better to know my stuff first. That really lifts my spirits guys, thanks as I said I am open to joint ownership to start up with and would love my breeder to be my mentor. So I guess when the time is right I should be able to find one :D

At the moment I own 2 young staffies, one I show and one on limited reg that I have titles in Agility for. I wont be getting a boston until my 2 are much older but I have started researching the breed and the lines that are in Australia. I am heading up to the sydney specialty show to meet with breeders and check out the bostons. Hopefully this is a step that a breeder will acknowledge. I am keen to find a breeder that can be my mentor and work closely with over the lifetime of my puppy. I am open to the option of part owner ship to get me up and running. I would love to here your thoughts on this.

I would leave it open and bath twice daily with warm salty water to remove any dirt. The air will help dry it out and heal. Oh and restrict exercise (I think I saw that you will be doing that anyway. Good luck

Just be aware that Avocado's are not good for dogs and it is not recommended that they eat it. Mine get something in the morning, either a bone, large crunchy dog treat, dried roo flap, tendon etc. Training treats sometime during the day (fourlegs ATM) Dry foo and either, meat, sardines, yoghurt, cottage cheese, sometimes dog roll etc for tea. And whatever they manage to counter surf and steal! buggers! Avocadoes were recommended by her holistic vet as she has an auto-immune skin condition. They are full of good oils. Though with the price of them atm she isn't getting any! Cheers! I am interested in this vet recommending avacado as I am a vet nurse and have been told never to recommend avo and or onions. Maybe come to think of it , it is the avacado skin that is bad. I am going to do some research and try and get back to you guys on this one. My two get Optimum dry food and either chicken necks, sardines or eggs on top. They also get marrow bones through out the week while I am at work but then the amount of dry food is dropped on those days. There skin coat and weight are always looking in tip top condition. I find if I change the dry food my girl gets itchy skin.

I am wondering if anyone knows where I can hire a dog run with shelter for 2 dogs for a week. It needs to be sturdy obviously. I am going away and my 2 dogs are going to stay with my mother inlaw on a 2 acre property. We are worried that because she doesnt have fences they might run off so I thought this would be a good idea for when she has to go out and cant keep an eye on them. Thanks
