  1. or you could come to Sydney to trial . I think Zig & Em would love a road trip!
  2. If she has even half the instinct & talent of her mum, I'll be happy
  3. She'll be semi rough, similar to my other two
  4. no, I don't think they have ever even seen a samoyed. I do remember both Trim & Shine doing a full crouch & stalk the first time they saw an OES tho I think someone should volunteer their Samoyed for Fly to try out! VBG
  5. Just had to share this as it's so incredibly cute This is my new pup Fly, the day after she came home. She spent 2 days doing this to Peppi (not to the other dogs), before she decided that Pep was, in fact, a dog! Now:
  6. But of course! VBG. Here's a bit of trivia for you...Fly is the 4th most common name in the history of the ISDS Registry . Over 8,000 BC bitches registered as Fly. Original aren't we, lol.
  7. Again, seems like a biased answer... Without any doubt whatsoever, 2 of the most manic dogs I know are coolies. They have NO offswitch & are lucky to be owned by people who can manage/ cope with it. I would never base my opinion of the breed on these individuals, but it should be recognized, that these traits exist in the breed.
  8. I have a new pup too, also named Fly There is no doubt that puppies are great time wasters I'm just trying to make sure that as little as possible changes in my other dogs lives. I make sure that she is separated from them often & that they have somewhere to get away from Fly if they want to. I also make sure that we include her in things we normally do. I play with them while she is around, give treats to all together and spend time with them while she is asleep. Pep, my daughters dog seems the most put out. I think I will need to make the same effort with her that I am making with my dogs...since my daughter is not My older girls have surprised me. Shine normally LOVES any puppies & Trim normally has no time for them at all. Even after only a few days, they seem to know Fly is staying. Shine is acting like a bitch would to her pups, tolerating a bit, and disciplining anything she deems inappropriate. Trim seems to love having her around, she initiates play with her & seems happy to put up with Fly hanging off her neck. Yesterday some of Flys littermates came to visit & Trim was back to her normal "I hate puppies" self, but still good with Fly.
  9. Another thing I'd like to add... I've only my new pup 4 days, but have spent a lot of time lately looking objectively at what I have with my older dogs. I've been analysing what I did well & thinking about how I did it and also analysing what I am not quite happy with. I have spent some time polishing up some things with them that need improvement and I believe each experience will make me a little better for my pup. One of the best things we can give a new pup is consistency. Consistency comes from having a plan AND the experience & discipline to implement it.
  10. Forgot to say, Ash is awesome! A great handler & trainer as well as being a very good instructor
  11. She gets distracted in the ring, not a lot, but just enough to put us one or two seconds over time & its mainly dogs running in the other ring that pull her attention away from the job at hand. I did some more LAT today at the trial & she ran well, but still overtime, due to small pauses to look over her shoulder At monday night's training she doesn't get distracted, so I can only really practice this in trial situations. I am going to a seminar with Ashley Roach tomorrow...anyone know about him...he was our judge for the weekend. given what you have said here, I would stop trialling her and aim to increase her enthusiasm & drive to earn a reward by 50% in training. Double your reward rate, reward in the middle of sequences, rather than at the end of them. Introduce a reward marker & use it for commitment to obstacles, rather than completion of obstacles. Crate her between sequences, don't let her play before & after class, insist on (and work hard to get) 100% focus on you & your rewards every second she spends out of her crate at training. You have a new pup right? What is your plan to make sure he/she doesn't develop the same issues? Agility should be all about a chance to earn a reward for the dog. The more progress you make in this with your older dog, the better your pup will be.
  12. If you're looking for s dog for sports, why not go to some trials & have a look around. I think with some breeds, different lines can be as different to each other as another breed. It's so hard to recommend a breed & not be biased by individuals within it that you know or own. These threads are full of generalizations that are often not representative of a breed. I could tell you that 50% of the GSDs I've seen in agility are basically crippled...but I've only seen 6 so hardly a big enough sample to pass judgement on. I could tell you that coolies are either super soft couch potatoes or manic with no off switch at all but I know a few who are somewhere between these 2 extremes. I could tell you that kelpies bark incessantly both on & off course but many don't. The gap between the lowest & highest drive BCs you will see in agility is expansive & often not any kind of representation of how they are to live with. I see a lot of consistency in the GSPs & Vizslas in agility but since most of them are from the same lines, I couldn't tell you if they are indicative of the breeds as a whole. I would go have a look around...you will know what you want when you see it
  13. what is she getting distracted by? Is she both distracted outside and inside of the ring? I doubt switching methods in one day had any impact at all on your runs, especially if she's prone to distraction while running. Sounds like you need some serious work on your reward system. I know someone in agility who used LAT between runs at trials as her dog was prone to reactivity outside of the ring but was fine in the ring. In the end she gave up on it as the LAT game became more fun for him than the chance to earn a reward in agility & the result WAS distraction both inside & outside of the ring.
  14. I would say in general, the 2 main reasons for dogs doing zoomies in agility relate to: reward system issues connection/communication issues A couple of things to think about... typically in agility, we don't spend anywhere near the time we need to building a reward system. If we provide our dogs with the highest value reward we can, agility becomes solely about a chance to earn that reward. If we don't provide it, we get one of three things...lack of effort, distraction/zoomies or a case where the obstacles themselves become the reward. I think communication/ staying in touch with our dogs is not focussed on enough either. Too often we ask the dog to do something but are not clear about what comes next. This leads to either dogs slowing down & asking questions or dogs who choose to make their own minds up about what will come next.
  15. well done with the jumping & weaving!!! I wish I had thought to suggest you put him back on the dw yesterday. He did so well to stay on it as long as he did. Don't worry, you'll be able to work through it
  16. congratulations TN!!! It looked fantastic . Beautifully handled & run.
  17. What an awful & tragic shock for you Jules I am so sad to read this. Can you get a friend to come over? You shouldn't be alone right now.
  18. Seems like you have a bit of time to make the decision. Will you keep in touch with many of the owners of the litter you just bred? I would be basing my decision on how the pups she has just produced turn out.
  19. Sure ;). You can even keep her till she is no longer a teenager! Rofl
  20. They have had a couple of other runs RS with one fault each time. Here is their Wollongong run. It was really a really good run, but Chloe was a bit worried about the chute ( since Pep had only done one once before) so they lost connection for a second on the run home.
  21. Thanks Ptolomy anyone heard of Dogs NSW allowing it?
  22. Does anyone know if it's possible to take main or limited registered dog and reregister it as an Associate?
