  1. Cool thanks for the ideas. So you guy's dogs haven't had side effects from the liver then, and it's ok to feed?
  2. Sorry I meant to say 5% liver, and 5% other organ meat is what I've been told
  3. I've read that a raw diet should include 10% liver, kidney etc (please correct me if that's wrong.) But I've also been told not to feed beef liver because of antibiotics and things accumilating in it. Can anybody please advise what sort of liver, kidney etc I should be feeding my dog as part of a raw diet? Thanks
  4. Thanks... he doesn't wear a harness much but he does wear a gentle leader (like a halti.) I don't have a 7 or 8 blade, I have a 4 and 10. But I tend to scissor around his head/neck/face because the clipper won't go through it very well and with all the curves and things it's really hard. I don't know if this is normal of poodles or labs or crosses, but he has massive amounts of loose skin around the front of his neck, under his chin. I had somebody show me how to clipper him there once, but afterwards I noticed he had a cut there because the skin must have gotten caught in the blade So I'm really scared to try clippering there. How does everyone do the loose skin around the neck? Just hold it as tight as possible?
  5. Is there such a thing as a small trimmer for their face? Like a smaller one than the electric one I use on the rest of his body?
  6. My boy has just turned 3, I got him when he was almost 2 Awwe your boy is 11 months old, he's still a puppy I thought he looked puppyish
  7. Awwe TD is so cute! How old is he? My boy has a mixed coat, poodly but also smooth in some places. There are pics of him here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...15&start=15 I have problems keeping the knots out of his head, I think I need to take him to a proper groomer. I normally groom him myself and have done for a year now, but his head is a difficult area.
  8. They suck don't they. You have a Poodle too? Mine's a Poodle X. The fur is sooo thick it's hard to even find prickles sometimes to get out , let alone feel for ticks. What sucks is that the fur on the head/neck area is thicker than everywhere else (on my boy anyway) and I'm told to check him all over, but especially around that area and the tail area.
  9. I'm wondering why he gets frontline plus fortnightly? Thats a lot of chemicals in his system. My guess is ticks - they grow 'em nasty where Blossom lives. Yep that's why. Trust me, I don't like doing it but it's on the vet's advice.
  10. His back fur is smooth and I keep it short. He doesn't matt around the muzzle but the main problem is around the back of his head/neck. I clip around the base of his tail but his tail does matt but not too badly (easily fixed when brushing/combing) but the back of his neck and top of head are the worst areas. His legs matt too if I let them get any length but easily fixed by clipping short.
  11. Thanks for everyone's replies. Sounds like it's off to the groomers to get it sorted, then a good comb around the face every day. Maybe the groomer can sell me or tell me where to get a good grooming product to help me comb through his head/face hair? I have attached pictures so you can see his mixed coat and problem areas.
  12. I was thinking of using it in conjunction with fortnightly Frontline Plus. Just as a back up extra to keep paralysis ticks away. But you're right, I can't find anywhere it says paralysis ticks on the website (I was sure it did) but now I'm not so sure!
  13. I saw the link in a post here (forget which one) http://www.ticlace.com/ It's a collar/necklace thing for your dog and they say it helps prevent ticks. I would LOVE this if it works, but I've never heard of them before. Does anyone have one?
  14. No matter what I do, my lab x poodle's coat matts around his face, legs and tail. His back is ok because it seems to be less curly there. I keep his coat as short as I can in Summer, but there obviously needs to be a bit of length around the face and tail. His fur on his head and face seems to be a different sort of fur to on his back and no matter what I do, there are always knots in it. Some of the knots are almost like little dredlocks now. When I can, I scissor them down really short but even then they just grow back knotty. I normally groom him myself and one of the hardest places is his face because I'm always scared he's going to move suddenly when I'm scissoring the fur near his eyes and on his head. I brush him with a slicker brush, which he hates, and it's hard to do it around his face because of all the curves etc. What should I do? If I take him to a proper groomer will they be able to sort it out? Is there a product I can use to make his coat less knotty, that won't interfere with his fortnightly Frontline Plus?
  15. Ruffles I am so sorry It sounds like Cujo had a wonderful life and knew he was cared for and loved.
  16. I only just saw this. indigirl I'm so, so sorry
  17. You could try wrapping them up in a slice of cheese. My friend's dog has them this way. Not very healthy if the dog is getting a lot of tablets though (too much cheese.)
  18. I feed it frozen in a kong... so whatever a kong holds. He doesn't get it every day.
  19. You buy the set up kit. It contains a clear container, and another larger container (which is sort of like a thermos) and it normally comes with some packets of yoghurt powder (which you can buy seperately too when you need more or want different flavours.) To make it you just empty the yoghurt powder into the clear container and you add cold tap water, put the lid on and shake it. You put it in the 'thermos' container and add boiled water. Then put the lid on and leave it for 8 - 12 hours. Then you take the container out of the 'thermos' and put it in the fridge for an hour or two. The instructions it comes with explains it all and shows you where the water levels should come up to etc.
  20. Does anyone else find the Mango flavour of easiyo to be ? Banana however is My dog gets the low fat natural sort though
  21. I love Easiyo. So does my dog. I freeze it and put it in his kong! It's so much easier than going shopping when I think I want yoghurt for that week. I just keep a few packets in the cupboard and make it as I want it. You can get the yoghurt maker from Big W too. The packets of yoghurt mix can be bought from Big W or Coles (and I'm sure a lot of other places.)
  22. I feed raw chicken, and Vets All Natural Complete Mix (totally raw.) I buy chicken frames/mince etc and divide into portion sizes (it tells you on the back of the Complete Mix pack how much raw meat to feed depending on the dog's weight) and I freeze them in portion sizes. I weigh out the amount of Complete Mix I need, add water and let it soak overnight. Then to feed my dog, out comes the frozen chicken to thaw, and I give him the Complete Mix. It seriously doesn't take much more time than feeding canned or dry food. You do have to supervise the dog when you feed them bones, but that doesn't take very long. Yes I admit it probably is a bit more expensive than canned/dry food (depending which brand) but I think I'm saving on vet bills and dog dental bills. The best part is having a healthy and happy dog that is eating healthy food.
  23. Can I ask where from? I'm paying $2/kg at the moment
