  1. I don't mix anything with kibble. I just feed a range of meals. Read the label on any roll carefully. Most are heavily laden with preservatives. I don't think you're doing your dogs any favours feeding a roll if that's the case. If your dogs don't find the kibble palatable without additives, I'd say its time to try another kibble or feed them when they're hungrier.
  2. I'd say that sort of thing is fairly common and the fact that none of the Cockers ended up seriously injured tells me that the larger dogs didn't mean business. The sad fact is that fenced offlead dog parks draw owners that can't control their dogs ON lead like bees to honey. You saw a fairly predictable outcome. I'd be making a call to the ranger anyway... tell them that its out of control and that some periodic visits to monitor users wouldn't be a bad thing. Sadly, its not really big enough to divide into big and small dog areas.
  3. This wont work. It was used last time and failed dismally. I can post pictures of people swimming with great whites and patting tigers but it won't convince a lot of folk that the animals are "safe". The MOMENT you get drawn into an argument about what breeds are safe and what breed aren't you've lost. The only way ahead IMO is to talk about what makes DOGS safe and what doesn't. The emphasis has to be on education to socialise, train, desex and contain ALL dogs. That has to be coupled with effective laws to deal with dangerous dogs - which we have alreadly. Move away from that theme to talk about breeds and you play right into the hands of the BSL proponents.
  4. I'd never trust an unknown donkey around dogs. They get used as livestock guardians for a reason... they have a good set of teeth as well as hooves and many aren't reluctant to use them on any predator species.
  5. And of course they come in enough colours so they can match the lounge as well ;) I've been a whippet fan for a long time, looks like they may finally suit! Whippets tend to be popular with the horse folk. If you go around the horse trucks at the aggie shows, there are generally a few Whippets around. The important question is probably how the horses are with dogs. Any dog is at risk from a dog hating horse - and a lot of mares in particular won't tolerate dogs around. It pays to be cautious.
  6. Miniature Poodles have died of bloat.. they don't even weigh 15kg. Kirislin, hopefully its just an upset tummy.
  7. I know a few kelpie folk who also have poodles - they like the intelligence and people focus of both breeds. A toy poodle given lots of time and room to run around would thrive in that situation.
  8. It's a start. If you point out that no registered breeder can crossbreed within the code of conduct, they tend to pay attention to that.
  9. yeah I just noticed that, can't remember exactly from memory what was on the bag either. But Chix meal was first, then a grain. Oils, eggs vits and mins were also added. It sounded pretty good. Not badly priced either. Was $20 for 3kg or $50ish for the 7kg bag. Curious to know if anyone has used it yet and what they think. I have to say, I don't think that's all that cheap. A premium kibble wouldn't be that much more.
  10. What's in it? I couldn't find an ingredient list on the website.
  11. Thanks PF. This is the way I've been trying it. Right now Hunter won't keep my focus and stay on his side while Chelsea is with us. He just wants to jump across me to get at Chelsea. I use a marker for when he is doing the right thing but he is only holding that focus for a moment or so. The distraction of Chelsea being there seems to be a huge one. He won't be jumping anywhere if you keep the leash fairly tight to hold him on that side. What he can't reach, he can't harass.
  12. Any reason you can't walk one on one side of you and one on the other.. if Hunter is kept to his own side, he can't harass Chelsea.
  13. I have Andis Pro 2 speeds. You will need a range of blades. I use a 30# for feet face and tail on the blacks and a 15# for face on the white and tummies on all of them. I use a 4# on the body of white girl in winter and the boys get #5. In summer the boys get a 7# and the girl gets #5. I don't use combs but do use a leg blade. If you are planning to do them yourself, you'll also need a dryer and scissors to do a decent job.
  14. How many goats will you get as his dowry Boronia??
