Healthy Treats For Raw Feeders
poodlefan replied to corvus's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Cheese? It's not raw but its certainly better than a lot of processed treats. I tend to use dried liver, chicken or even tuna when I can get it. -
And when some are judged by others failure to work on the problems, what then? Many professional associatons work on the principle of peer regulation - the reason is due to their desire to safeguard the reputation of the association generally. The article isn't arguing beyond urging breeders not to bash one another. Ask breeders to put aside differences and work together for the betterment of the breed and I'll agree whole heartedly.

Sometimes is the manner in which a dog approaches that gets the rebuff. Did you read the article I posted. All I can suggest is that you figure out some manner of separting the two dogs in your house. If you don't I think there's every chance it will end in tears. I didn't realise when I posted that the two dogs lived together. Your other option is a visit by a professional dog expert. If your Aunt won't listen to you, perhaps she'll listen to an expert who'll tell her if the behaviour doesn't stop, her dog may end up seriously injured or dead. If that happens, I'd not be looking to either dog for the blame. -
Sorry, but I'll take objective tests over lofty statements every time. Health testing, as you suggest, is not the be all and end all of optimal breeding. However its measureable and provable. That matters to me as an indicator that the breeder is attempting to breed healthy dogs. You know...I never said not to do health testing, please read it again. I read it carefully the first time. You suggest your statement is a replacement for the second one. I see both statements as necessary. You can breed two evidently healthy dogs to achieve the letter of first statement you or you can put some genetic conditions beyond doubt with health testing. I'd say I want a breeder who strives to optimize the chances for healthy dogs and that includes health testing. I don't buy the 'not in my lines' argument and I never have. How do you know your dogs aren't carrying PRA, aren't subject to heart issues etc unless you test for it. The fact that nothing in your backyard has had issues isn't the test. You could breed PRA "B" to "B" dogs till the cows come home and you'd never know the parents had an issue until pups started going blind. I know one breeder who learned that the hard way only when a pup she retained did just that aged 5.

No, but you could train her to hold that stand position longer.

Ruthlessleather.com Is About To Turn 1!

I shall have me one of those Asteroid collars for the Howinator yet. -
I never want my dogs to go in the crate. I have it sized comfortable for a pup to sleep but not room for a pee pad. If puppy whines or is restless, I get up and take them outside.

A wrinkle of Sharpei A snuffle of Pekes.

How about: A kindness of Goldens. They tend to radiate benevolence A Waggle of Labradors - they wag their whole bodies Or maybe a Ravening of Labs - they tend to like their chow!
-
For what purpose? I'd not put one on a Whippet and they are pretty active. It's a bit like horses. Backpack horses tend to be fairly heavy, straight shouldered draft or draft cross breeds. Not all horses are up to carrying weight in that manner.

Kind of pointless unless you're hiking. Potentially harmful if not well fitted. And definitely not suitable for all breeds.

I like this one But am having trouble reconciling it to the mass of legs and hair that launched on top of me this afternoon when I got home!! So four overy excited Borzoi jumping at head height has got to be a "tempest". But yes, normally a Grace. Perhaps that was a Cossack of Borzoi that greeted you. ;) *cue Balalaika music now*

Do you reject the notion that many dogs, as they mature, become less tolerant of others? Perhaps some explanation of HOW you prevent your dog from snapping at others can be done might assist the OP. I have a mildly dog aggressive dog who, with a dog in his face that he doesn't know will snap. I don't allow dogs that want to get in his face to do that. But given that he displays all the body language of a avoidance, shows his teeth and THEN snaps, I consider his behaviour to be an entirely appropriate method of reacting to rudeness from other dogs. -
While growing - good quality adjustable flat collar and lead. Something like a Blackdog one? Once grown, good quality leather collar (if no correction collar is needed) and lead. K9Pro would be a good source.

What breed is the pup?

This. All my dogs are keepers. That makes me a woeful breeder prospect.

There used to be a car called a Whippet. -
The only question I ask myself when my dogs are due for dental work is what else might be required or done while they're under.

I didn't post in the accredited breeder thread either but I am no fan of a two tiered system. If the system of registration and controlling the conduct of breeders is perceived to be so broken that a CC would propose an additional accredition system, the logical question is why can't you fix the problems in the existing one?? I think that's what Jaxx's buddy may have been driving at. If you ain't an accredited breeder within the proposed scheme, what does that say about you?

I like a stoic of Wolfies - cos they are.

I can't seem to vote in the second poll. ETA: sorted. I consider it from time to time but think its pretty unlikely. Not sure I"m the tough stuff that breeders need to be made of.

Things have changed. She's a big girl now. If you're not keeping the dogs she doesn't want to greet at a distance, she will. Your choice. -

I don't think she's being aggressive. She's simply intolerant of rudeness. I strongly recommend you read this He just wants to say hi and that you don't correct her for displaying perfectly natural canine behaviour. Your dog is just like Cream in the article. She's a mature female who doesn't tolerate what she considers unacceptable behaviour. My advice is to safeguard her from having to deal with it and do what your instructors have said. You can't make a dog like other dogs. You can protect her from having to deal with them. The more you make her have to warn dogs off, the more likely she is to start upping the ante. Don't let rude dogs or pups get in her face. Problem solved. My guess is all she does is roars and snaps? If that' the case her behaviour is perfectly normal.
