Unless you are there VERY early, you'll struggle for a park close to the rings. Parking is always tight and only a few get a park with trailers up the top of the rings. Diva is going!

This is a condition that Dalmations can suffer from I think. It might be worth posting about it in the Dalmation thread.

This sounds like a situation that would benefit from a professional perspective.

Seven Yr Old Savaged By Dog At His School Gates
poodlefan replied to RottnBullies's topic in In The News
I'd love to know more about how a dog onlead got loose, attacked a child and apparently the owners, who'd had it for a day did nothing. I wonder what the history of the dog was but I guess we're unlikely to find out. Sounds like the dog was in a home with kids too. -
You haven't been in a tick affected area have you?

I'm not into passive smoking for kids, dogs or anyone. Given that I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke or smokers, I can only wonder how an animal with a far more sensitive nose than mine finds it.
-
My thoughts also. If he's still drooling and shaking, I'd be making a fast trip to the emergency vet.

A kick "with feeling" into the side of a pup's ribs could very likely break them.

What sort of assistance is required? -
Exactly what I was thinking! What is an attacking dog? Could you be charged for having a maltese terrier that bit at strangers' ankles an 'attacking dog'? Would the owner of that dog have to go to court? of course not. For Gods sake - its the owner not the breed - eg. what the UK are doing by punishing bad owners not 'bad breeds'. I think that is a FANTASTIC idea. and im sorry for the police officer but its a bit stupid to just walk into a yard with three strange dogs. Yes. You could be. You could be staring down the barrel of a dangerous dog declaration as for any other breed. Read the laws in your state as they apply to dogs.

It's not my hands that worry me, its my pockets. Some of it doesnt' wash really well either. :D -
I agree. A decent club could sort these issues out. Dogs that get distracted aren't necessarily "high drive" just not motivated enough to do what you're asking of them. Your job is to teach them that self control and obedience to your cues brings reward. You own a breed that routinely wins at the highest level of competition. Don't write your dog off.

Most definitely. You will find folk around with some positively aged Ccrates still doing the job. Strength of welds and joins seems to be a primary point of difference between some crates. If you propose to move it around, transport dogs or use it at trials etc, then I'd pay the difference for a tough durable crate. If its only going to be used at home and not as subject to wear or tear, those two gated black powdercoated ones sold at shows may be all you need. Steel is definitely the go for longevity.

I think that's changing Aiden, at least in agility. When was the last time you went to a trial? I joined a club last night, first time I have trained at a club for about 4 years. I was absolutely astounded, in the 2 classes we participated in, I did not see one dog who did not have great speed & drive to do the courses. It was wonderful to see & vastly different to what I saw the last time I attended a club To some degree Vickie, that is also influenced by dog/breed selection. The types of dogs doing agility has also changed over time. not relevant to what I saw last night PF, there was a really diverse group of breeds, a number of scruffy little dogs, terrier mixes,a couple of labs and yes a few typical agility breeds, running at almost maximum capacity Training has for the most part, helped with this too. I think we both gave views recently about the importance of building drive from the get go.

If you want high quality buy a Ccrate. It will outlast the dog.

Yucca Extract For Plaque Prevention--where Do I Buy It?
poodlefan replied to Boronia's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The problem with DIY scaling is that you don't get under the gum line - it's not tartar on the wider area of the tooth that causes gingivitis but the sub gum stuff. So you may improve the cosmetic appearance of the tooth while damage is still being done. -
I think that these sports, and the disallowance of motivators for competition can make it challenging to harness drive effectively. And, as Vickie says, there is also some very ordinary training at times.
-
The challenge with a low drive dog in many competitions is that the opportunity to motivate them is more remote. No immediate ability to reward, with most valuable motivators outside the ring can be a challenge. I put a AD, JDX and CCD on a highly food motivated dog with very low social confidence. Confronted with the unfamiliar or pressured too much she'd shut down. It was challenging to get speed out of a dog that would not allow me to lead out and that only really drove to tunnels. A five tunnel course with one early on was my kind of course. I used to joke about dressing my friends up in cabanossi or as kangaroos and having them run around the outside of the ring. Yes, it can be done. Yes, it requires a lowering of expectations and the ability to build duration. Would I wish it on someone else? Not really, it can be frustrating and depressing at times. But most of us do what we can with the dogs we have and find reward in things other than qualifications and places. To see a dog that I spent 9 months training before she'd go through a tunnel and over an A-Frame really tear up those obstacles was a blast. Lily did get a JDX first.. after every faster dog DQ'd on a course at Wagga.

Yucca Extract For Plaque Prevention--where Do I Buy It?

Sadly bones don't always do the trick. My smallest poodle eats as many as the other dogs but has shocking tartar buildup. She gets annual cleaning and scaling. -
Veteran Sweepstakes At Group Specialities

I vote for before. I think its owed to the Veterans to be judged when everyone is paying attention and I don't believe a Veterans result would impact greatly on specials. -

What that suggests is that the Yucca isn't doing anything directly to reduce tartar build up you bolded. Given that Yucca is generally used as a healthy fibre supplement (often replacing beet pulp) and to reduce the smell of urine and faeces. You could source it in a premium kibble instead and not be adding chlorine dioxide (which is the active tartar reducing ingredient in the liquid) to the diet.
