  1. GTE now transport unquarantined rescue dogs. I'd not touch them with a barge pole to transport a pup.
  2. x 2 The selfish and irresponsible actions of a few have placed public dog transport into the "high risk" category. The issue of quarantine before transport has been repeatedly raised on this forum and some rescues just don't seem to give damn whose dogs are endangered. Puts paid to the notion of rescuers always having dogs best interests at heart. How you could recklessly endanger other people's dogs by taking dog from the pound and placing it on a flight or in a dog transport just defies logic. If a pup of mine ever became sick and I could trace that to an unquarantined dog being on the flight, I'd be lawyering up and taking the rescuer to court. It's negligent behaviour IMO.
  3. Dr Billinghurst amended his view about that to remove all grains from his recommended diet. I started BARFing as a hard line "no grains" feeder. Nowadays (possibly due to higher dog number or maybe it just old age) I'm a lot more casual about the issue of what to feed. My beliefs these days are that RMBs should be the basis of any dog's diet for both nutritional and well being reasons (dogs NEED to chew) but that supplementing them with a premium kibble isn't the end of the world. Grains do provide a short term source of energy for dogs. Fat is what is digested and stored. I'm reliably informed that a lot of mushers and performance folk that need their dogs to be able to work hard will feed rice before a hard day of work just as human athletes will carb load. I definitely believe that unless you're prepared to put a lot of effort into your dog's diet that a pup raised on RMBs and a suitable grade of kibble is the way to go. Aussie made, I'd put up with the grains and feed Advance. A lot of great dogs do well on it.
  4. That would be a yes. Even vaccinated dogs can get it.
  5. You need to hook up with BMP (honourary Houndee) at a show Diva - those Havanese folk have got lots of products they'd probably recommend.
  6. Honestly Gayle, If you do enjoy showng, I'd hate to see what you say about something you don't enjoy. I'm not sure I've ever read a positive statement about it from you. Moving on.
  7. Looks VERY young. I'd not hazard a guess as to breed for a couple of months. All tiny babies kind of look the same in shape to me.
  8. 1. Seek professional help as advised. 2. Consider that breeding your boy is only going to exacerbate many of the behaviours you are finding problematic. I think you'd find life a lot easier as an owner if you desexed both dogs, enjoyed them as pets and bought a show dog to start off your breeding program with. You don't have to own a male to breed. I'd say there's plenty of advantages to not owning a stud dog!
  9. As I've said in other threads, the introduction of the GR Ch title has, in my opinion, pretty much sent the idea of travelling to avoid all competition to the scrapheap. You'd have to be damn lucky to get in a car, travel for hours and find yourself at 18 shows in which breeds with reasonable representation at your average show were entirely absent.
  10. Washing basket!! How are you going to transport her as an adult?
  11. Next dog will be another Whippet. I'd prefer a male as I think they make better pets and are easier to manage in terms of the show ring (no seasons). That said, if there was a stunning girl in a litter I was interested in and no comparable male, I'd take a girl. Next dog would be a pet/show dog/sports dog. Unlikely I"d breed but happy for others to use him if he's good enough.
  12. I think it's sad to see people buy pups that may go blind because breeders fail to carry out health checks. I also think it's sad to see a breeder offloading pups early and heading overseas right at the time puppy buyers need the most support. But that's just me
  13. I'm never sure what's worse, a sound mind in a failing body or vice versa. You're giving him the final gift any loving dog owner can - a release before he degenerates beyond any qualify of life. My thoughts will be with you tomorrow.
  14. OCD in the making possibly. How much exercise and mental stimulation does he get? Tell your friends to gently discourage it.
  15. To boost the economy These things always seem to come in groups too. Sorry to hear about Rex.
  16. A silicon based spray like Show Sheen might be worth a try. Used lightly it should dry with no residue.
  17. - got to love the guilt trip. If they persist with their current practices, they won't need outside agitation to be shut down. One pissed off, well heeled adopter with a parvo affected dog could lawyer up and send them to the wall financially and if they haven't incorporated, could cost someone a great deal of $$$$
  18. I feel your pain. It's a challenge to get Howie ready for the ring with an early start. ;)
  19. Maybe its because of the kind of breeder that breeds with profit as the primary motive.
  20. Have you read the papers on early desexing research?
  21. Did this nice, honest genuine family conduct any health testing to ensure that you don't end up with a puppy that has an inheritable (and preventable) health issue? Have the parents been DNA tested for Progressive Retinal Atrophy? Do they get annual eye checks?
