  1. If your vet has told you your dog is overweight, my guess is she is probably seriously overweight. An adult dog does not require 3 meals a day. Porridge has little or no nutritional value for dogs. I'd stop that for a start. If you place the flat of your hand on her ribs can you feel her ribs without having to press hard? If you can't she can afford to trim down. I would suggest you start feeding a quality kibble OR a raw meaty bone once a day and leave it at that. I feed two meals of bones then a meal of kibble.
  2. Here you go It could definitely be a structural problem. A good chiropractor would be my first port of call.
  3. Looks like an eye problem/infection on the pup on the left.
  4. Ask for the junior - higher fat content.
  5. Simple question: Would a $3,000 vet bill leave you struggling to pay it? Do you have access to a credit card or similar for emergencies? If the answer to question 1 is yes and question 2 is no then I'd recommend it.
  6. You'd be hoping in vain. I can think of at least one in our own breed that exports whole litters regularly.
  7. Where will be awards be held this year Steve?
  8. Publicity is an interesting thing. The activities of politicians rate for intense media scrutiny. I'd love to see a current affairs show roll up at the gates of this place and ask to see the parents of the prime ministerial pooch.. could make for rivetting viewing. Edited cos I can't spell for shite.
  9. You don't need to have a written contract to create a legal entitlement to payment for services. It's certainly better, but not an absolute requirement.
  10. $50 a week sounds a bit unbelievable But still a great tactic, definitely get your friend to do this. What Pav Lova said.. $50 a week is cheap. Like a boarding kennel, you friend has a right to retain the dog until payment is made for outstanding board.
  11. Your friend can tell the old owner BEFORE she arrives that she can either sign over ownership of the dog or see her in the Small Claims court to repay all money spent on the dogs's board. Calculate that at $50 a week and hit her with that amount in a invoice TONIGHT. If the dog leaves the property, file the claim. If your friend has the cash, I'd be seeing a solicitor this arvo and doing everything not to hand the dog over.
  12. I don't eat stuff that animals use to think, see or digest with. That cooked pic is fairly yellowy.. you can get much greyer than that. mmm boiled liver (on right)
  13. Just so we're all on the same page: Cooked liver (blerk) Raw liver
  14. You know the single most frustrating thing about so many people with dog aggressive dogs is their total failure to recognise that their dog has a problem and consequently their failure to actually control their dogs and do something about it. The guy in this story is a classic example. His dog has been in fights before (but never started it). He's implying the dead dogs started this one. Riggght. The dog has now killed and its still just a "big marshamallow". All I can hope is that Red becomes a big marshmallow that's subject to a dangerous dog declaration and only to be walked leashed and muzzled. No fun for the dog but the owner's got his head firmly shoved in the sand. And I see it time and again.. dog with long history of aggression incidents and owner in denial.
  15. Not the only breeder who practices this and no, it's not bullshite. Parvo CAN be tracked in on shoes. I wouldn't be enouraging anyone to "sneak peek" on private property. If there are welfare concerns, there are avenues to report them. Otherwise, my honest advice is to leave it alone.
  16. Good that you are asking for a recommendation. I suggest you ask in the Sibe thread though - they will be best placed to know who's got what at the moment. What state is your friend in?
  17. I sincerely hope that the ANKC does not accept the breed for recognition with that name. Fanciers of this breed in development might care to reflect on how other breed fanciers feel about that name before tying themselves to the mast over it. It is a huge barrier to acceptance of the dog IMO.
  18. In horses "liver chestnut" is the darkest red.. also known as sorrel. But I think it depends on the breed. "liver", "chocolate" and "brown" can be the same colour but referred to differently in different breeds. I always tend to think of it as dark like the horses though. That Weimaraner "cooked liver" colour is "rose grey" for them I think??? I think that's a better description.
  19. If they wont' listen to a professional Raineth, my guess is you are wasting your breath.
  20. Treats might work on some dogs. Only the boot will work on others. Issue that I can see is an owner getting up you for 'rewarding' their dogs approach by feeding it. I don't want a dog that's just given me the finger to run up to another dog to have that experience positively reinforced. Not the treat thrower's problem I know but its probably going to be just as popular with some as booting.
  21. Thank you, fbaudry. It ought to be bleeding obvious to PF why I own two purebred dogs from good registered breeders. If she managed to figure that one out, she might realise how insulting the rest of her reply was. The insult I see here is your inference that purebreds are defective based on a singular experience of a poorly bred dog. I quote: If you are going to stick it to purebred dogs generally based on your experience with a poor specimen of a breed Corvus then IMO it is for you to qualify your statement by saying that it wasnt responsibly bred. That's one hell of a qualifier and one you have yet to make. Of course it isn't black and white. Responsibly bred DDs are in the minority. No way around that one. You cannot justify the huge numbers of DDs being pumped out for profit based on denigration of the same damn dogs used to produce them - poorly bred purebred specimens.
  22. A closed gene pool and genetic disorders don't necessarily go hand in hand though. The oldest purebred dogs are the desert sighthounds.. bred pure for thousands of years and arguably some of the healthiest animals around. Their gene pools are quite limited. Furthermore, outcrossing to prevent genetic disorders also has its limite. Many of the "outcrossed" designer breeds are bred from combinations of breeds that share the same genetic disorders. Lab/poodle crosses and Cocker/poodle crosses suffer from PRA - because all of those parent breeds share the same genetic complaint.
  23. Yes Murve.. we need class results of both sexes!!!
  24. I would suggest that armed with x-rays, a decent canine chiropractor might help. Is he overweight?
