Cuteness overload!!

Is ringside for their call, gets in and out promptly and doesn't have judge, steward and other exhbitors cooling their heels while they wait for them. (this drives me nuts as do those who want to have a chat to the judge during judging or after it in the ring) Shows each dog to advantage.. not a "one size fits all handler". Dresses to show pride in their dog and respect for the judge. Grooms their dog in the same fashion. Is courteous to other exhibitors, win lose or draw. Doesn't indulge in dirty handling, malicious rumour spreading or bagging of the judge (at least not until in the car on the way home ;)) I'd still like to know what irritates judges. Might have to borrow the book SSM.

Top and bottom jaws grow at different times. If the bottom jaw had just undergone a period of growth, the top jaw might grow to meet it. Dog is young enough that there is probably more growing to do. It might correct. Then again, it might not. If I had my heart set on showing the dog, I'd be sending it back.

Rip Ch O'flanagan Go For Broke (imp Swd)

Autoimmune Haemolytic Anaemia - an absolute heartbreaker of a disease. I know two dogs that have survived it but far more that haven't. -
Go with 4. We always use one bay for gear, and we usually end up taking someone else's dog or dogs with us when we go away. A 4 berth can be quite a nice size trailer and are probably easier to come across than a 2. I agree. They aren't that much bigger or heavier and are probably easier to buy and sell. Don't forget that a trolley rack on the front or back of the trailer can take a bit of heat off stowing trolleys in the wardrobe. If you do that and take a divider out of 2 berths in a 4 berth trialer, that gives you way more storage than a wardrobe provides. Toledo do three sizes of 4 birth - something to keep in mind.

Oh no.. so sorry to hear this. RIP Tackla - what a dreadful loss. -
These are 2.4m x 2.4m Stolz
-
Stolz, there is yet another option.. the Oztrail Deluxe Compact.. only 2 piece legs and a studier frame than the little one (still 2.4 x 2.4m) but its collapsed size is larger at 1.3m.. That will fit in some larger wagons.

Did anyone catch the news report last week on the increasing problems caused by feral dogs in the USA. The story highlighted a dog attack on a woman by a feral dog pack.. she died.

Sorry Don't be.

Vitamin C would probably be the easiest way. I'd be treating any dog with KC with Manuka Honey (medicinal grade) also.

I wouldn't ever recommend doing agility with a dog that was missing a front leg.. turning over jumps would place massive strain on the remaining leg.

As I've said before on here, I like the African Painted Dog as potential study subject. I figure if human beings originated in Africa, why not the human/dog relationship? The fact that we don't find bones or cave paintings depicting it might be more reflective of the environment/terrain than anything else.
-
You can take the dog/wolf out of the environment but can you take the environment out of the dog/wolf? That is the balance we need to find, how much is inherently 'wolf' behaviour and how much is 'man made'. In the study I linked earlier there are very clear and quantifiable behaviours that correlate between dogs and wolves and correlate with alterations in morphology which have been influenced by artificial selection. Experience with wolf hybids seems to indicate you can't take the wolf out of its environment. Wild is wild no matter how much dogs may have descended from wolves. Selective breeding has altered many traits - that was the aim.

Me too. I've caught nine since March. The dogs caught one

Why Are Ankc Agility Nationals Held Bi-yearly?
poodlefan replied to Tay.'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Because of the amount of time and effort it takes to organise them. Its a heap of effort that falls on the shoulders of a handful of people in each state. Trying for every year when not every State is running one would be too much of an ask. I'm still scarred from the ACT one - and that was ages ago. I think folk were also concerned about whether everyone would travel if it was once a year. -
I would crawl over broken glass and jump through any number of hoops for the RIGHT dog. I do think its easier with dogs than bitches though.
-
I reckon there's room between either of those options for both breeder and breed to benefit.
-
Hills I/D cans are basically chicken and rice and very palatable. That might be one option.
-
I'll give another example of how selling entire can benefit the breed. A good friend of mine bought her first pet Whippet from a well known Australian whippet breeder. Pup was sold entire and co-owned by breeder. Six months later, pup and owner visit breeder. Breeder is blown away. Would owner consider showing puppy? Yep. So owner and pup embark on a show career. That pup is now a 2500 point Grand Champion who has made a significant contribution to the breed as a sire. I appeciate that breeders want to protect against irresponsible breeding and have the welfare of their dogs in mind. But that has to be balanced against the risk that over zealous protection will see the line become extinct and remove a lot of potentially valuable dogs from the gene pool at the get go. Its all very well and good to say "I dont' want Breeder X getting hold of my lines because their dogs are shite". How on earth does Breeder X IMPROVE their dogs if no one will sell them anything decent or allow their stud dog to be used.
-
I do think ego plays a part where some breeders seek to totally control access to their lines with limit register and desexing. Sadly, this practice will see many lines become extinct when the breeder stops breeding. Some don't care but I think its an incredibly short sighted attitude. I've posted this before but Bo Bengston (of Boehme Whippets in USA), when interviewed about his contribution to the breed said that the achievement he was most proud of was that 46 Whippet exhibitors got their first Championship title with a dog from his prefix. That's 46 times he took a punt on a newbie in the breed. He is not a prolific breeder. There would probably be only a handful of breeders here that would come close to that. My guess is that many have NEVER had a new exhibitor make a a championship on one of their dogs.
-
I wonder where all those who say "all desexed" or "all limit register" see the future generations of purebred dogs and breeders coming from. I shudder to think of some breeds going out desexed as baby puppies and do wonder, given that there is research that links the practice to issues like HD about the liablility issues. However in popular/valuable breeds, vasectomy or tubal ligation are procedures that IMO should be more popular than they are now. Perhaps it comes down to discussion/negotiation with the buyers. If the pup is to be pet only then limit register is appropriate. Perhaps co-ownership of any first Main Register dogs going to new buyers until you see if they honour their undertakings. But the next generation of exhibitor/breeders have to start somewhere. Like SSM, I know plenty of people with entire, Main Register dogs who haven't shafted the breeder or bred irresponsibly. I'm one of them.

There was a three legged poodle that ran in agility. Chloe did pretty well but she was a very light dog. The main issue for me would be the structural integrity of the remaining back leg. What does your vet think of the idea.
