Animallover: One of the first things you learn about dog training is that if you have two trainers, you're probably going to two have differences of opinion about the best way to do anything with dogs. Not all methods work on all dogs either. You told us that this advice has taught your dog to hide the fact that he's going to the toilet inside. Basically, you thought you were punishing him for doing the wrong thing. Unfortunately, it appears that he didn't know what the wrong this was. He's learned that being caught going to the toilet gets him in trouble.. but he hasn't learned that it's only going inside that's not allowed. Provided that the methods aren't abusive, it's not about what's right and wrong but WHAT WORKS FOR YOU AND YOUR DOG. Do you think it's working?

Animallover: You have managed to teach him that he gets into trouble for going to the toilet in front of you. Now you want him to go to the toilet in front of you outside? Can you see where there might be a problem here? He hasn't caught on about the inside bad/outside good message yet. What he does know is that if you see him toilet, he gets into trouble. Smart dog this one. Do not punish him for going to the toilet inside. It doesn't help and, as you are seeing, it can make things worse. It's your responsiblity to make sure he does it in the right place, and therefore your responsiblity when he doesn't. If he goes, just pick him up, put him outside without fuss and reward him like crazy when he does the right thing. What's his reward for doing the right thing at the moment? What do you do to indicate that this is where you want him to toilet. The key times he will toilet are when he wakes, after eating and after play. If you can't keep you're eye on him at other times, I strongly recommend you confine him to a crate or an area where he can pee or poo if he needs to, or put him outside where you do want him to go. No, that's how much control over his bladder he has.. basically not a lot. Dog's aren't intentionally deceitful - that' a human trait. That's why there's no point in punishing him for going inside.. you have to take responsiblity for encouraging him to do it outside. If you can install a dog door so that he can take himself out, I'd strongly recommend it. It will really speed things up in terms of reliability. Mouthing, on the other hand is something you don't want him to do anywhere.. this its the time to say 'arggghh" or no and clap your hands.. then divert him onto a toy or something he is allowed to have in his mouth.

Parvorvirus Vaccination In Australia
poodlefan replied to aranyoz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I asked my vet this question last year and was told no. It might be a good question for your vet.. or Rappie is she's around. . -
Oh F*ck.. .that's awful Paula. RIP Harvey.

How cute would love to see that I think it's safe to describe Lil as a fairly low drive agility dog. She does it to please me, not herself. You basically escort her around a course .. until the tunnels.. she loves tunnels will drive into them from a great distance and come out of them twice as fast as she entered. It took over 6 months of training to get her to complete one without me having to coax her through ... Agility is a great confidence builder.
-
Fortunately, Lil is the only one of mine that screeches. Darcy stands quietly until its his turn but he still loves to chase. FHRP's Rogan is like your dogs. He's too much to handle in the line up. I usually hold his place and FHRP gets him out when its his turn.

Is the puppy chubby? What sort of exercise regime has it been on?
-
Precisely!!

Miss Lily prefers to trot daintily between the weavers. She's a lady.
-
And in combination with wheatbix.. a miracle!! Did you find out if what he'd left on the carpet was more than liquid?
-
:p :p  Only on a dog forum. Canned dog food is wondrous stuff. :p
-
I'm going to try to bring the poods up again this winter. I don't think Miss Lily has all that many years of coursing left to go and she does love it. I'm so looking foward to the shrieking with excitement and yapping all the way round the course.

Jakes Mum: Dogs chase a plastic bag on a string that is looped through a series of points to form a course. String is powered by a little motor. Depends on the club. The Afghan Club run the one at Erksine Park and open it (bless them) to all breeds of dogs. It is particularly suitable for high prey drive dogs. I"d not do it with an overweight, unfit or a very hard to call/catch dog. The dogs run flat out over a course with the speed of the lure controlled for their pace. Yep. Afghan Club as above. One important thing .. it's a lot of fun.

Dog Food Reviews And Ratings
poodlefan replied to kyliegirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Kyliegirl: Fat contents in processed foods often don't vary all that much, regardless of price. Read the bags if you don't believe me. What causes the price to vary is the source of the protein, the quality and source of the fillers used and what preservatives/flavour enhancers and nutrients are added. I'd say the most common cause of canine obesity is the same as human obesity.. too much food and not enough exercise. It's more the quantity of food dogs receive rather than the quality in a lot of cases. Most processed pet foods contain sufficient nutrients - a surfeit of them in many cases. Following your analogy about processed foods not being best for us, what leads you to conclude that higher quality processed foods are best for dogs? Is an expensive breakfast cereal automatically going to be better for us than a cheap one? Is Nutrigrain better for you than Cocopops? Or Wheatbix? -
mason_luke: :D That's always a classic isn't it?

I wanted my dog to survive the ET.. me on a bike is a lethal weapon. ;)
-
Do what I did.. get someone else to do the bike bit. ;)
-
Don't forget to report in when the eagle has landed. ;) If he hasn't had a normal motion by tomorrow, I'd be taking him to the vet.
-
Thanks for the tip. I'm still keeping my eye on him. He's still sleeping at the moment so we'll see what happens later ;) ETA: I didn't actually see what came out in the loungeroom. All I noticed was the floor was mopped and the windows were wide open. Can't find out till later. A bulky bland diet for a couple of days would be warranted. Cooked chicken and rice or veggies is always good. I'd lay off the marrow bones and feed him smaller bones with more meat on them - they won't clog him up as much.
-
Well at least he's not constipated anymore. Doesn't he have access outside at night? See Top Breeders did recommend Pal.. as a laxative. ;)
-
Don't forget folks that, in order to enter an ET, you need to be an Canine Control member and your dog has to be ANKC registered. For dogs without an ANKC pedigree, that means you register them as Associates. Edited for accuracy.

Any updates? Was there a large steaming surprise or three in the yard this morning?
