Take the lead off.. seriously. You may find it easier to get and hold her attention until she gets used to it.. then put the lead back on. But yes, mixing up the paces and rewarding lightening fast sits may help overcome the excitement of the pace. Lots of turns may help too - she'll have to concentrate on you.

Entire Dog With Sheath Problems

Sounds like an aiming issue there too. Darcy wouldn't bother to finish before walking off from cocking his leg.. very smelly. Lots of hairy male dogs have to be rinsed daily to keep them "nice" in the scent department. Maybe you should Gladwrap his back legs. -
Trouble Switching From Wet Food To Dry Food

Feed him in the morning? -
The only thing I'd not suggest you not bargain hunt on is any processed food you feed. Cheap kibble is false economy IMO - you'll be better off in the long run feeding the best stuff you can afford. Charity stores are great for soft toys and bedding. Simple things like empty toilet rolls are good for destroying. You can get good deals buying veterinary products online and a few phone calls to vets with a comparison price on vaccinations might save you some $$$ too. Fancy puppy collars are a waste of $$ anyway - pups grow out of them. Oh, don't buy the nasty pet treats from discount store.. those rawhide chews could have anything in them.

Have him put under and have them professionally cleaned Daisy.. there tends to be a link between eye issues and head/jaw issues. Tooth cleaning won't remove calculus that is already there but will help prevent it reforming. What does your vet say about his eyes. Cloudy lenses can be a sign of aging.

How old is Clyde Daisy and what sort of condition are his teeth in?

Entire Dog With Sheath Problems

Are you sure it's pus and not smegma (aka "dick cheese")? Darcy had plenty of smegma, very pungent urine and poor aim when he was an entire - as he had poodle coat, it required frequent rinsing to keep him pleasant to be around. What a charmer he was. Desexing made such a difference! If your breeder wants semen from him Dog Geek, she has the option of harvesting and freezing.. definitely a good insurance policy for a valuable line anyway. -
Unfortunately, at 7 months, your pup has had at least 5 months of experience to reinforce her biting behaviour. You're going to need to have something a bit stronger than an "ouch" for an adolescent. I'd suggest you research the "mouthing" threads here for advice on how to deter a really persistent mouther.. I think you are looking at using aversives. On the jumping - train a more desireable behaviour like "sit". Teach her that she gets NO attention until her bum is on the ground. Put her on lead for greeting guests and around the kids and insist on the sit before she gets any pats etc.

Good idea PF any recs on the offal type? I can get access to pleny of liver etc but worry about how rich it is. I'd change it around from time to time if you can.. liver in limited quantities but also kidneys, heart (not really offal but still good) and from a range of animals. My dogs live chicken giblets.
-
Definitely some offal.. up to 10% of the diet. I'd be adding a general nutritional supplement and some good Omega oil too.

They are gorgeous LeoP - and you're giving them a fantastic start in life.

Trainer/behaviourist In Canberra
poodlefan replied to Kelpie-i's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm only a volunteer at my dog club and I certainly wouldn't volunteer to look at an aggression issue - best left up to the professionals. It doesn't really sound like play though, does it. -

Could be play I suppose. ;) Might not be either. Best of the local trainers (no behaviourists here that I'm aware of) would be Sean Ehlers of Dog Tech. He's dealt with his share of DA dogs. If he can't help, I'd be off to see K9Force in Sydney. -
What ever cue your parents used.. don't use it. Train a whole new cue word - the old one has been poisoned by punishment. Reward EVERY time the dog comes. Start with low levels of distraction and high rewards. I'd not be letting him offlead at all when a recall is important - use a long line. Personally, I don't know of anyone who's managed to curb problem barking by putting it on cue.

Dog or human aggression Kelpie? -
So sorry to read this .. but glad you got closure Rexiam Run free Rexi and Sam.

I'm glad you've got a diagnosis now Skwo and I'm even gladder it wasn't a shunt. Did the vet indicate a prognosis for recovery from this?
-
Mako doesn't think that way. Feed each dog what they need. Lots of dogs in the same household get fed differently - mine included. Can't help with the faecal sample question - one for the vet I reckon but if the dog still has coccodia, I reckon it would still show up. Has she been regularly wormed?
-
A lot of very adverse reactions from dogs.
-
Get the faecal sample done. It could be something like Coccodia which isn't diet related. I'd not be feeding anything raw at the moment - cooked chicken and rice is a good plan.
-
I would not use any combination of products where parasites treated overlap. You can get monthly Heartworm only treatments (eg. Proheart) and 3 monthly intestinal worm only treatments (eg. Propantal, Drontal)

ANKC registered puppy Danielle (ie does it have pedigree papers)? Health tested parents?

Harnessing And Focussing Drive
poodlefan replied to LilBailey's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Until you eliminate physical reasons for less than full effort, you'll never know. Dogs in pain can be very difficult to spot. If you are required to do a bunch of hurdles, turn hard on a box and do the hurdles again, and it HURTS, how hard will you keep trying. Working dogs are some of the worst (or best) for trying even though they hurt... but they shouldn't have to. Get the handler to take the dog to a DECENT canine chiropractor and if it's in a chest harness, take the damn thing off. -
Harnessing And Focussing Drive
poodlefan replied to LilBailey's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The first thing I would check for any performance dog not fulfilling its potential would be physical issues. Has the dog been recently vet checked and chiropracted? Flyball is hard on a dog - very hard. Is the dog as fit as it might be. What kind of conditioning is it getting outside of flyball training? Is it running in harness? If it is, is the old style that crossed the chest and restricts movement. Take the harness off it it is and see if it makes a difference. The second thing I would check is that the dog had a very clear understanding of what was expected of it. If you throw a toy and the dog goes out hard after it and brings it back the same way, my guess is that you are a dealing with a training issue. -
Is she sleeping outside?
