And you are getting pedigree papers for it?

Laundries are heat sinks. He's probably cold in there. Buy a sturdy crate and sleep him in a warmer part of the house. He could sleep in a room in your crate. No need for him to sleep outside at all then. :D

Good luck getting a Borzoi to weave between your legs. :D Mmm, you have a point You'll have to do the weaving instead.

Looks like a Chihuahua cross to me :D Not SBTs pudding pup, the other one.

Ring the club. 62957764 between 10.00 am and 1.00pm on weekdays.

This sounds like submissive wetting to me. If you don't want to mop the floor don't yell at him. :D With some dogs the strongest sign of disapproval you can afford to use is neutral behaviour. Reward what you want to see, and ignore the rest. What sort of obedience training do you do with him outside your home? This sounds like a dog that needs a lot of effort put into building his confidence in himself and you as a leader.

Don't forget there are shows at EPIC this weekend too! Being a dog show tragic I have the dates with me. 24-26 October inclusive and 30 Oct to 1 November.
-
Double the chance for challenge points. Different judges. Having more than one show in the one place pulls more entries. You've got two triple shows in Goulburn before the end of November.

I think the breeder retaining the pup for a while is in the pup's best interests. The stress of rehoming is not something you want a sick pup to go through. Breeders of dogs popular with dog thieves can be paranoid about people knowing where they live. Whole litters can be stolen by someone who presented as a legitimate buyer. However, unless this is a registered breeder I would buy elsewhere.

How Do You Handle The Immediate Aftermath
poodlefan replied to Jigsaw's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Separate, de-escalate and refocus. Discipline isn't always appropriate and handler aggression towards dogs is never helpful. Most of the dog on dog incidents I've seen in agility have been created by handler inattention and lack of control. The time to call your dog is when it's 2 feet from you and looking at another dog, not 20 feet from you and running flat out at others. -
Agility Handling System For Clingy Dogs
poodlefan replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Rock solid lead outs.. lead way out and run like hell. Many dogs do develop more distance with confidence over the obstacles and a dog with good tunnel suck can be very handy. Tunnels were the only obstacles Lil would send to and she'd go miles for one. She made her JDX with not a lot of distance handling. You also have to start taking risks and seeing how far they might go. I was a shocking "baby sitter" on courses and my dogs lack of distance tended to reflect that. I'm not making that mistake next time. -
Sorry, no. I don't know the first thing about the competition side of DWD.
-
Yes, Phillipa that's correct. Tony Turner of CDC is taking point on getting DWD off and running at the club. There aren't any links on the club website as yet but there's an article in the current magazine and the website should be updated after next weeks AGM.

Me too - makes the dogs cock their heads cutely when they hear it. I like that some money from each order goes to a charity of your choice too - I chose Petrescue.

Qualifed Dog Trainer Vs Dog Trainer
poodlefan replied to wayrod's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Agree. Any trainer who thinks there's only one right way (theirs) and insists on running down others is not one I'd see. That's what put me off Pat Parelli, the natural horsemanship guy. -
I live in Canberra and have Artemis delivered to my door from Pookinuk in Melbourne. Delivery costs $5 no matter how much you order. The courier just leaves it in the garage. [Poodlefan does not derive any benefit from spruiking Artemis or Pookinuk ] I'd gnaw my own foot off before I'd contribute to the profits of PP.

Qualifed Dog Trainer Vs Dog Trainer

Again - I think you've misunderstood. I don't permit my boy to jump on others. And I do not openly invite or encourage him to jump on me either. But it was one behaviour that I compromised on for the sake of another. The jumping won't last forever. But I hope the latter (ie drive) does. I agree. But do you mean that if you saw a trainer with a dog who pulled, you'd assume they couldn't successfully teach LLW to their dog? If I saw it often enough? Yes. If I saw them allowing their new pup to do it? Yes. Maybe I'd be wrong. But sometimes not. I do prefer a trainer who can model the goals I'm seeking to achieve, regardless of the field of education. -

I suppose we all have different things we tolerate (and don't). Personally I hate being jumped on by other people's dogs if I don't know them. As a better example, if I want my dog to walk on a loose lead, I'll be looking for a trainer who can successfully teach that to their dogs. -

If its basic skills/methods that you're having issues with then find another trainer. But for new things, a different approach isn't always going to undo work. For example, there are many ways of negotiating the same set of agility obstacles. Doing it the trainers recommended way doesn't undo any training for my dog. It's just another handling method. Changing my cues and signals however would be confusing and I'd sit that out if the trainer wanted me to do it. -

Personally Erny, if I were a trainer with a dog that's a work in progress, I'd think twice before having on the training ground during classes. One pet hate of mine is trainers that repeatedly demo on their own dogs ad nauseum. I'm not interested in seeing what they can do with their dogs beyond a demonstration of the behaviour as a finished product. I'm there to get help with how to teach it to my dog. Personally I don't have my dogs with me when I train others. -

One thing I'd not generally compromise on is that the trainer had expertise (however gathered) in the specific area I'm seeking help for. A person that's trained a bunch of OC's is not automatically who I'd go to for behavioral modification. Teaching skills and dealing with problem behaviour aren't the same skill set. I'd be after a person for the job. A very good pet dog trainer might not be who I'd go to for dog sports work but at least these days you can usually find someone with specific skills if you're fairly close to a big smoke. I do want to know a person's basic training philosophy. There are some things I won't do to my dogs. Like you Corvus, I'm not interested in correctional devices if my dog doesn't need them and I'm not into halti's period. Sometimes asking a few questions up front can steer you towards or away from a trainer. -

You've clearly had a bad run. I find very few trainers patronising and I've seen plenty. But why attend classes if you don't want to at least try it once their way. I've been to seminars and thought "no, this method isn't for me". But I do it on the day and then discard. Why? Because I've paid for that trainer to teach me THEIR way. I try it and evaluate it and discard afterwards if I need to. An open mind on the day sometimes reaps rewards. It's usually a lot more time effective and every now and again you get your mind changed. If it does no harm to the dog, why not do it in the lesson and then forget it. Most trainers don't want to debate their methods.. they don't have time. If don't want to to do it anyway but your own, save your money. But there are some awesome trainers out there. ;)
