I'd suggest you nip that in the bud pronto!!

Try something that's got no gluten and a novel protein source. Any premium "sensitive" food might be worth a go. Or Eagle Pack Lamb and Rice or the Duck one. Royal Canin has A LOT of grain in it.

Is there much difference in size between males and females?

Not all humping is sexually motivated. Some of it can be a display of dominance. It's possible that's what's motivating the girl.

Could you tell us more about these please?

What you have is a focus (or lack of) issue in addition to the loose lead one. A good one on one session with the trainer will really help. There is more that you can do rather than just waiting for the lead to slacken but ANY method is going to take a little time to be effective.

Have her vision checked. How old is she?

Help...he Won't Come When I Call Him
poodlefan replied to vellela's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Practice calling him when he's not so far.. as Aidan says, you want to condition a response to your cue (you probably need a new one) regardless of where the dog is and the level of distraction. Start off with easy recalls, including at home. -
When was he last wormed? What sort of condition are his teeth and gums in?

Roast chook or left over sausages work a treat! The other thing to remember is that you want to practice calling him when you don't need him to come.. to condition the response to the cue when he isn't having to decide. Make a habit of calling him, praising him and rewarding then releasing him back to do his thing. Fastest way to kill a recall is to only do it when you're going to leash up .. you can watch that play out in dog parks all over Oz. I've trained mine to come to a sports whistle.. nice and loud, no panicky tones from me and I only use the whistle for offlead walking. -
Or a little in kongs like we do, dogs go crazy for it and will lick the kongs clean for ages! Yeah, the canned stuff won't be much fun to handle for treats anyway.

Actually, the problem is that he feels like he has a choice. Recalls under distraction need to be practiced, building up from little or no distraction to the higher levels where a dog has to choose between what it would like to do and what he is being asked to do by his owner. You are conditioning a response to a cue. The only way to solve this is by training and having REALLY good rewards for the tougher recalls. In the meantime, I'd be exercising him on long line or only in enclosed parks. -

It's only a single day now isn't it? -
If your dogs find it tasty ( and a lot of dogs do), I'd be more inclined to use it as training treats than feed it as a meal.

It's their show/performance food. Linky here LOL i thought you were talking about a different brand altogether. So you find this product ok then.Did it affect their weight much and i notice its ok to give to pregnant bitches.i assume then you don't have to change bitch over to puppy biscuits is that right.thanks again. I can't help you on the pregnancy side (not a breeder) but the Whippet is doing well on it. The issue with him is keeping weight on, not off. I'd not feed it to a dog that needs to watch its weight.. I'd probably opt for the normal Fresh Mix.

Clippers For Grooming Double Coated Dog

Actually I googled and they do have an undercoat!! If you are body clipping, #10 is a bit too close. A #4 or #5 would be better. I use a #4 on my white poodle girl in winter and a #5 in summer. -
interesting - what could go wrong with too much protein? According to the studies.. not much unless you have a dog with existing kidney issues. But I'm not feeding kibble to get more protein into the dog - I'm feeding it to balance out an otherwise raw diet.
-
Personally I find the protein content of Maximal a bit alarming.. and I prefer a range of meat sources rather than chicken. My guys get plenty of raw chicken. My team are on Power (the Whippet) and Medium/Large Breed (even though they are small) Seniors.

Where's Cenititout? I have so many questions. 1. I bet Bloodhound people are sick of this one.. just how slobbery are they? 2. How would you rate their suitability as pets? What sort of owner makes a good Bloodhound owner?
-
I'd be putting him somewhere you can easily clean up and leaving him alone for initially short periods, then longer ones. It could just be in another room to start.. work from there. Make sure you leave him with a treat and ideally, at least initially, after he's been outside for a play.

Your dog has a non shedding coat. What blade were you trying to use on the clippers? -

It could be a food allergy. What sort of meat are you feeding? Is there gluten in the puppy food? -
He lasted 2 days longer than Howard did.

A determined pup could climb out of one of those pens. You really need one with a lid.
