  1. Dogs are allowed in the house. It's when in the yard they need to be enclosed in a run that meets specs. Of course if you don't want to force your dog into this kind of life, DON'T BUY A DOG THAT CAN BE CLASSIFIED AS RESTRICTED. The law isn't new. People need to either abide by the law or suffer the consequences (or more precisely have their dogs suffer them) Just curios and this is hypothetical, If poodles became restricted and you were made to comply with the rules that are in place now for restricted breed would you? Dead easy as a hypothetical .. but yes. However I'd never buy another one to live under those laws. Living in fear of being found out and having the dog potentially seized would not be my idea of happy dog ownership. You can own a pitbull in this country now and live with no restrictions. All you have to do is move. I'd do that to own a poodle.

  3. That would be Amichien Bonding. I'd be going for a veterinary behaviourist. There are none listed on this listing for the Northern Territory but quite a few do phone consults.
  4. Different dog on the packaging I know the Poodle one is meant to assist with eye health but when the first ingredient is a cereal, I"ll buy something else.
  5. This is a great website for dog training: Dogstardaily
  6. My friends young Cocker plays in exactly the same way - very vocal. Some dogs are fine with it, others don't like it. I suggest you find some nice outgoing youngsters who can handle the noise. Staffords are probably a safe bet My Whippet just adds his own sound effects to the Cocker's when they play.
  7. Yeah I know I would think about the royal canine but the others no , there all grain , royal canine is too actually. Fresh mix adult , look I think the food is great but it also has to be easy to purchase , Im hopeless I know I'm getting low and I just keep forgetting to order 2 new bags and then you relise you have 2 maybe 3 days left and then the stockist is out of stock... Yeah, I've noticed that about Royal Canin. Hills too - first ingredient is corn. Have you got a Petbarn near by? One that might be worth trying is the Dick Van Patten stuff.. not a lot of grain if any. I think they use potato as the filler. First ingredient in the Advance adult is chicken. I feed a fair bit of raw chicken so I feed other kibble.
  8. Royal Canin do a German Shepherd one. I don't know much about it but a lot of folk here seem to like Royal Canin. Lots of folk I know feed Advance and like it too. That's pretty widely available. Which Artemis were/are you feeding?
  9. I think its pets goods direct actually i havent been there, was refered by a friend its only a small place , but unfortunately i need to feed my dogs something decent and that is easily obtained in my local area , i would prefer not to give money to PP but if thats the next best thing i have to till Artemis get a stockist out this way. Where do you get your Artemis from? I get mine from Pookinuk and they even put it in the garage for me. :D
  10. I thought you could only get it in Pets Paradise? :D
  11. The police weren't just standing around - they were lying on the dog, immobilizing it.
  12. I'd stick with Oster. The other thing about blades as opposed to trimmers is that blades can be sharpened. Trimmers are more disposable.
  13. There's usually only one length but a couple of widths. I'd get the smaller one. ETA: What brand blades are compatible with your clippers?
  14. Yep. Mine's an Oster blade. The main thing to remember clipping feet is not to stretch them out too far and to avoid the webbing between toes. I clip both top and bottom of the poodles paws.
  15. If you own a decent set of clippers, buy a toe blade for them... much better in the long run than a small trimmer.
  16. Maybe one of them might like to google the history of the breed. They were never bred to attack people. A dog fighting dog that cannot be handled by people is a liability. A little education would stop this kind of discussion dead in its tracks. Dogs have strong jaws. Thats why we can play tug with them. I'm not sure I could get something off one of my poodles or the whippet if they really wanted to hang on to it.
  17. Yep, a better diet may produce results. So may her settling in with you. I'd rrecommend you cease feeding Greenies by the way - they aren't all that good for dogs and if she's getting chicken wings, she doesn't need them.
  18. What do you feed her? A holistic vet I've seen suggested that tear staining is often an indicator of issues in the head or neck. Given your pup's age, and the clean bill of health on her eye, the beginning of teething may be the cause and it may clear up once she has her adult teeth. Has she been under any unusual stress - that also impacts on the immune system. I would be very wary about managing this condition in the longer term with anti-biotics - it's the fastest way I know of to build anti biotic resistance. Check her food for colourings and preservatitives and eliminate those. If she does not already have access to raw meaty bones like chicken wings, I suggest they be added to her diet. In the meantime, the Kojo eye treatment availabe from Petnetwork DOES work. Many of the topical treatments don't.
  19. Rottie... young... very high temperature and very ill. It might be algae but I'd certainly insist on a parvovirus test too. Before determining the cause is uncommon, elimination of more common diseases seems warranted. Is he fully vaccinated?
  20. How much daily exercise would be considered appropriate for an adult Bullmastiff?
  21. Make sure he also checks out the Stafford thread in the "Breeds 101" Forum... and tell him not to pay $$$ for a 'rare' coloured one!
  22. I dont consider over flowing tear ducts to be "normal" in any breed. As I said, "common" and "normal" are not the same. That brown colouring is yeast and/or bacteria. The staining tends to indicate a depressed immune system issue IMO. Feed right, groom right and most importantly keep the teeth clean and many of those dogs with "normal" tear stains will become stain free. I don't think that people should accept that small dogs and tear stains are inevitable. There's plenty you can do to fix the issue.
  23. SSM: The difficulty I see with that is that some breeders will rate their pups as good prospects for anything! Not every gundog that looks at a bird or retrieves balls will make a working hunter. Not every poodle will be an agility natural. Not every purebred dog will make a show dog. But gee some breeders will tell you their dogs have the goods for it all .. if only they had the time. :p That's why I mentioned about finding breeders whose dogs actually have runs on the board in what ever activity you are interested in. I agree that steering towards good breeders is a much more productive approach than bad mouthing others but sometimes its all you can do to keep your draw from dropping when puppy buyers tell you what breeders have said.
  24. Actually, if you don't train bite inhibition and deter mouthing, they won't. Some dog owners learn that lesson the hard way. ;)
