  1. No corn in the Artemis Power Elfin. It's rice based. That's why I feed it instead of the Eaglepack I also prefer that it has a range of meats in it. Ingedients: Chicken Meal, White Rice, Chicken Fat (Preserved Naturally with Mixed Tocopherols, Vitamin C and Rosemary Extract), Lamb Meal, Dried Beet Pulp(Sugar Removed), Ground Brown Rice, Fish Meal, Flaxseed, Brewers Dried Yeast, Dried Egg, Salt, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Potassium Chloride, Lecithin, Garlic, DL-Methionine, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D-3, Vitamin E, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin B-12, Choline Chloride, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Biotin, Inositol, Dehydrated Kelp, Chelates of Zinc, Iron, Manganese, Copper and Cobalt, Potassium Iodate, Sodium Selenite, Sage Extract, Aspergillus Oryzae Fermantation Solubles(Digestive Enzyme), Enterococcus Faecium and Lactobacillus Acidophilus(Probiotics). If you wanted a protein boost, you could add a couple of just raw meat meals a week. I find that useful to put weight on my Whippet. ETA: Another option is Artemis Maximal which has no grains and is around 40% protein. I'd not feed it as an every day food but it could be a good addition to an otherwise raw diet. (and, no I don't work for Artemis. ;))
  2. I can't tell you how glad I am that you'll be there Steve. Would it help you if we all came up with the references to some of the studies we've been rattling on about? Definitely. Thank you. Julie No worries. I might start a thread to collect them all.
  3. No worries. Make sure if clipping is done it's done poodle style - top of feet and between the pads too. Ok I'll mention that because I know he gets clipped sometimes but not sure where its done or what style etc Better qualify that by saying just poodle style feet.. although once again, keeping the air up to ears is one of the reasons the muzzle is shaved. For dogs with yeasty ears, I recommend they be 15# bladed too. ETA: Poodles have their undercarriage shaved too. Has this dog got a long thick coat? He has a thickish curly coat, more like tightish ringlets. If she's got him shaggy all over, I'd say that's contributing to the issue.
  4. I think there are a couple Elfin. I might hunt around tonight and see if I can find anything sighthound specific. I feed Artemis Power as kibble which I note has 30% protein. A lot of mushers seem to favour Eaglepack Power which is also 30% protein. I also feed plenty of RMBs. This is the Artemis Power analysis. Crude Protein (min)30.00% Crude Fat (min)20.00% Moisture (max)10.00% Crude Fiber (max)4.00% Omega 6 Fatty Acid (min)3.05% Omega 3 Fatty Acid (min)0.50%

  6. Google is my friend. I thought the dog sports folk would have stuff on this. ETA: I'd be wary of 40% protein diets for any breed prone to bladder stones. I reckon about 25% is right for anything other than an endurance athlete.
  7. Peta if you took a toddler to a park and a bunch of big teenagers wanted to play footy with him, would you be happy with that?

  10. Ok. Quicky introduction to poodle grooming 101. Thickish curly coat on feet retains water. The reason poodles feet are commonly shaved is to lessen the amount of dirt and water they retain. Short hair = no place for moisture to remain and grow yeast. Yeast needs moisture to grow. To eliminate yeast you need to do two things: * remove the source of nutrients (probably the ear wax), and * remove moisture. Chances are the dog is scratching its ears, licking its feet and its genitals. Treat the ears, lower the ability for the feet to retain moisture and things should improve. Many poodles have yeast issues which can be assisted by a gluten free diet. Clipped feet also help. I'd recommend it for this dog.
  11. Assuming of course Nic that the woman isn't suffering from some form of mental disability, which I'd argue is more than a possibility. Legal rights are wonderful things.. but they don't repair broken dogs or pay the vet bill. As dog owners I suggest we rely on ourselves to protect our dogs, rather than the law.
  12. I hope someone asks Kate how she intends to produce this non-sniffy beagle without line breeding beyond F1 AND what she proposes to do with the "failures" of her breeding program Crossbreed, cull the unacceptable progeny, then line breed - it's how nearly purebred dog in the world has developed. Ask her how she intends to guarantee non-aggression while she's at it.
  13. Was she given drops to treat yeast infection in the ears? What sort of coat has this poodle x got? Is it regularly groomed? Are its feet shaved?
  14. Yep, and anyone who'd casually recommend others assault a person with undiluted chlorine better take a good hard look in the mirror. Permanent blindness, severe tissue burns.. all for "self defence". WTF??
  15. Ordinary Royal Canin has gluten. She should try for a rice based kibble (most "sensitive" kibbles are) or go raw. ETA: Does the dog have hairy ear canals?
  16. Don't wait till the day, ring them now. It takes time to prepare a dog for a show. You need to know what's best to wash her in and what prep needs to be done. Stack every day.. it should only be for a minute. Reward her for being still. Paps can be sassy little things.. she needs to learn that she can do what you want. Maturity alone won't get the job done. Most of the Paps I know are as energetic as Aussie Shepherds!
  17. Remove all gluten from the dog's diet. What is it fed? Apply some apple cider vinegar to the feet and add a very small amount to drinking water. Keep it away from her rude bits. No to metho.. the last thing inflamation needs is an assault of that kind. What breed/s of dog is she? Is she white?
  18. The short answer is "carefully". Ditto to swimming. Gentle walking would be a second option but non-weight bearing exercise would be best. Best to walk him on lead slowly.. sustained low impact exercise would beat a few minutes of running around. He may not be "lazy" but in pain. Did you discuss any medication with the vet?
  19. What was it about this breeder that made you feel that way? What do they breed?
  20. How do you know that? As I understand it, Dr Higgins is the spokesperson for Dogs NSW. This seminar is in Victoria. You do understand that nearly all ANKC members volunteer their time don't you?
  21. Show vans nearly always have the long poop scoops and collectors. They're great! I've seen them at Petbarn too.
  22. Sandgrubber, I'm sure you''re aware that one of Australia's most successful breeders of Labrador Retrieving Champions also provides breeding stock for Guide Dogs and Customs. The two aims don't have to be exclusive and keeness to work can be focussed in various directions. Frankly I think a lot of Labradors would be far more heat tolerant if they were thinner. Your average pet Lab is technically obese.
  23. In the ACT, Dogs ACT (our CC) is consulted on legislative issues and also provides reps to some Government working parties (eg. the dog parks one). The RSPCA also consults with Dogs ACT on some issues. But that's here. And this DOLer gets off her bum as do others. The fact that we aren't madly attention seeking for our efforts doesn't mean we do stuff all. What do YOU do Woofy?
