  1. I think every dog in that shot old enough to trial has titles. A few future agility dogs in there too. More than a few obedience titles too. And some retrieving ones as well.
  2. That's a 5 month old pup that broke in the middle. FHRP took this pic. Her dogs and mine are on the left. Sheilaheels boys are towards the right. Youngest dog in the photo is 4 months. Oldest is nearly 14 I think. You can pretty much tell where owners are standing
  3. He had a ball. 31 dogs were at my friend's property today. FHRP got a shot of them all.
  4. Does she spend a lot of time in the sun? Is she regularly wormed? Adding Omega 3 fatty acids to the diet can help. I'd add some chicken wings or drumsticks (raw) as well.
  5. Don't. Most responsible breeders won't sell two to the same home anyway. Two pups is twice the training requirement. You'll have issues with getting the pups to focus on you rather than each other. People here have tried it and most wouldn't do it again. Read the "things I wish I'd known before I got a dog" thread - there's at least one example there.
  6. There he is! FHRP got these shots of Howie playing in a friend's dam today Bath time will be tomorrow - I'd have to wake him up to bath him.
  7. Makes a nice change. The more registered breeders put themselves out where people look for pups, the better IMO.
  8. No Griffons here. I think one breeder brought in some Slovakians but I'm not sure they did much with them.
  9. There are quite a few brands. Repel X and Shoofly are probably two of the most common. You can get lotions and sprays.
  10. Head down to your local rural and get some equine insect repellent. If you can't get there, use human stuff like Rid. Just keep it well clear of his eyes. Keeping him inside at night will significantly reduce his exposure.
  11. Yes dogs get mozzie bites. This is how heartworm is transmitted to and between dogs. Dogs with fine coats are particularly susceptible.
  12. Or her. My five favourite vets are female. Dr Christine Zink (USA) Dr Jean Dodds (USA) Dr Barbara Fougere (Sydney) Dr Georgina Childs (Sydney) Dr Sandra Hassett (Canberra)
  13. This is where an active socialisation program cuts in. You need to get him out and about, seeing new sights and introduce him to as many people as possible. Once his vaccinations are complete, then you introduce him to as many safe dogs as possible in controlled circumstances. You also need to teach the pup that being alone is OK. You'll find some really great reading about raising a pup here
  14. You make this sound like it's a bad thing! He's a social animal derived of his natural pack. He will bond to a human and want to be with them. Many DOLers spend all their time at home being followed by their dogs. I reckon this is what it must have been like to have courtiers.
  15. What the others have said. They can obstruct the bowel as they are not digestible by a canine digestive system. Ditch them. Dogs can't digest corn or its cobs.
  16. Woofy: Woofy you run the risk of generalising about Dolers as much as some Dolers run the risk of generalising about vets. Crap vets exist for a reason - negative role models for people like you! I don't use my local vet - I travel further and pay more for a service I regard as better. So do a lot of Dolers. I'd no more take my dog to just any vet than I'd see just any doctor. Informed selective consumption of veterinary services would probably improve standards faster than anything else. If you don't like your vet, vote with your wallet like you'd do to any other service provider.
  17. Or you can titre test littermates and relatives vaccinated with different batches.
  18. From what I understand, the test is performed in the USA and takes about 2 weeks for an answer. That's only if you want the Hepatitis component done, I believe. Our Titres for Parvo and Distemper were done locally. Could you give me an idea of cost for the titers? I have been quoted from one vet at $250 and $180 from another. Keep shopping around. I think I paid $130 and my vet's on the expensive side.
  19. Thats interesting- I was having to feed Honey 1.5 cups of Royan Canin (GR formula) twice a day- double what the packet recommended. A small bag doesn't last long that way. She kept losing weight too but I put this down to the fact I take her running every day and she was a little overweight to start. The GR formula mentions weight management (apparently Goldies need that ) so that probably wasnt appropriate for her really. Aside from that it is good but I'd rather pay more to feed her less. If Honey is really active, she may be better off on a Power or Working Dog formula Dee Lee. They have higher fat content.
  20. I've stayed in the cabins and toured the kennels. Very well run place!
  21. From what I understand, the test is performed in the USA and takes about 2 weeks for an answer. Most regular titre testing can be done by Vetpath Laboratories in Perth.
  22. I'll go for Great Dane/Mastiff or Bull Mastiff Mix. Mostly Great Dane I'd say. He looks like a pigging mix.
