4Paws has highlighted the first step.. ask them why they've chosen to use that particular piece of equipment. Sometimes exploding myths about halti's, harnesses etc can open people to the possiblity of trying other things. Beyond that its a matter of showing them there's a way to control a dog that doesn't rely on all these contraptions.

The Whippet bitch Fast Flo of Hillsdown She is/was Howard's Great Grandma. Her daughter Hillsdown Aisling (Howard's granny) is another Whippet I love. She passed away late last year aged 15. Howard inherited her hatred of the vacuum cleaner.

What Strange Tastes Do Your Dogs Have?

Well, that sounds as though your 'girl's have got the female attributes covered! Are there any 'bitches' out there who are loving and nurturing - as all good women should be? Yes, my Leah is like that. She's the biggest snuggler and the sweetest girl - she'd love to be cuddled all day. She's been a mum a couple of times and according to her breeder, was really good at it, which I can just imagine. My Bitty is a feral banshee but she is soooooooooo loving! Absolutely thrives on pats and cuddles! Not a single b*tchy bone in her body! And I was so worried that if I got a female dog she would not be loving! Get another female dog and watch the dynamic change. They don't call em bitches for nothing! My sweet little girl is a proper dragon if she's got a more submissive bitch to boss around.

I always buy a catalogue. I don't mind how it's done but really appeciate the slips with numbers for each breed/group going out with entry numbers.

Newfoundlands? Oh yes, complete couch potatos.. NOT. Usual story.. make one as fat as a pig and keep it unfit and it will hardly move. Maybe people forget the role they were developed for.. and still perform to this day.

Run free Rocco. You were a very special dog. My Rocco and Ralph calendar will be a wonderful reminder of you. Your mum must be gutted. I'm glad she has so many wonderful photos to remember you by. And hugs to Ralph and his mum.. who must be missing you dreadfully too.

People at my club are encouraged to obedience train on flat collars. However, check chains are not banned and people may use them provided they do so correctly. Their use is not advocated though. People are not permitted to use haltis or harnesses in the trialling classes as they may not use them in an obedience trial. Agility training is on flat collars only for safety reasons.

x 2 All smooth coated dogs shed.. often more than their longer coated cousins. Provided you put in the hard work, a Labrador would be a great family pet. If you were prepared to do some minimal coat maintenance I would suggest you add the Flat Coated Retriever to your list of possibles. As you are in Vic, Kadnook would be my starting point for Labs. Bushman for Flat Coats. With a retriever you also have the option of doing some gundog work if you feel like it. Don't forget that SA Flatcoat breeder Skyehaven is a DOLer I think the Utility Gundogs are a step up in energy levels, training and work. If you wanted to go there and do a bit of coat work I think a Brittany would be a good choice - smallest of the utilty gundogs. I'd be starting by talking to Helen but Tobenlee are one of the better known breeders and on the Western side of Melbounne - Ballarat I think. However, I'd not suggest any of these as outside dogs and they will be a step up in training and stimulation from what you have now. I agree with Oakway - a Whippet WOULD be a good fit. Recalls are a matter of training, not breed. Whippets are a pretty competitive breed - lots out there but a good one does well.

Cop Accused Of Cruelty After Taking Two Shots To Kill Kangaroo
poodlefan replied to Steve's topic in In The News
What? He didn't call the RSPCA funded 24 hour animal ambulance to come and get it???? Oh hang on, they don't have one. They probably spent the money on another national ad campaign. Seriously, what else could he have done.. bashed its brains out with a tyre iron or left it to suffer and possibly cause more accidents? The only person that could have been called was a ranger who'd have shot it anyway. -
The bottom line is that in the absence of a known sire or dam what this dog is crossed with is unknown. Dogs should be placed in homes on the basis of what IS known. I don't believe in perpetuating the myth that this dog is of known parentage or that it is a breed. Both are misleading.

Most would argue not.. and that's what those who oppose recognition of the parti's are worried about. -
Akc Compatability With Australian Register
poodlefan replied to tunagirll's topic in General Dog Discussion
No idea why they weren't included in the original standards. Quite a few poodle folk are concerned that if allowed in, the quest for flashy markings will see the overall quality of dogs plummet. I can see their point. Oh, do they REALLY think so - it's not as though some breeders are breeding solely for colour right now, is it? Yes, and isn't the standard and temperament of some of those dogs a case in point against doing it. -
yes but that includes carriers and my understanding is you can be the most ethical breeder ever born but if you breed a carrier to a clear, no matter that all pups are then DNA tested, carrier pups either desexed or kept by the breeder, you are breaking the law. Which means a whole lot of good dogs are out of the breeding program, even though they and any pups they might produce will not be affected by the disease. But the BYBer's can still carry on. BYBs are caught by the same law. If you can demonstrate that your breeding will not produce dogs with heritable defects, I'd say that's a defence. Time will tell.

They can only enforce the laws on the books. It has to be a breach of one of those that the warrant is gathering evidence for.

Which Eagle Pack are you feeding? Artemis foods are gluten free. They use rice as the cereal ingredient. You can wipe his paws with ACV. That will help break the yeast cycle.
-
The addition of some whey powder to the diet would help, along with an appropriate amount of roadwork. Other than that, only time and genetics will help.

For all we know Bisart it could be a puppy buyer. God knows there are breeders who turn a deaf ear when a pup has problems.
-
Until we know what's going on, how much confidence we have is irrelevant. Someone had enough evidence of an offence to convince a judge to issue a warrant. That warrant has been served. Lets see who, if anyone is charged and what they're charged with. Those who've stayed within the law should sleep soundly. Others may sweat but the fact is that the RSPCA can only enforce the law that's on the books. To be ignorant or disregarding of that is what will put people in the RSPCA's crosshairs, And frankly not all those who find themselves targetted will be folk I'd want defend. Lets wait and see.

Jerojath: And while the CC's refuse to get their hands dirty enforcing the Code of Conduct or to implement compulsory health testing, it will forever be left to the law and those who enforce it to clean up the mess unethical registered breeders create. Lets wait and see before we judge anyone heh?
