Opinion On Pomeranian's Diet
poodlefan replied to koalablue's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Flaxseed oil should not be the only oil supplement a dog receives. It should be fed in rotation with other oils or in a blend. -

It's not like every dog that gains a CH is a good breeding prospect anyway. -
Opinion On Pomeranian's Diet
poodlefan replied to koalablue's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My initial reaction is that the diet, if that's all she's getting, is seriously deficient in calcium. That can spell disaster for a growing dog. If she was a large breed, my guess is that you'd be seeing problems already. If she isn't getting digestible bone or getting a balanced puppy food, I think you're heading for trouble. What other meals does she get? Given that dogs derive little nutritional benefit from rice or pasta, I don't care for your vet's advice at all. ;) That advice sees very little calcium available. If you want to feed home prepared meals, feed them RAW and she needs a good balanced source of calcium. Chicken necks would be one - again fed raw. Failing that, feed a good quality kibble one meal in two. -
So sorry to read this. ;) RIP Olympus. ;)

Yes iit is on the sternum. That's where Lil's is. Vet told me if it does have to come out at some stage, there's plenty of skin to work with there.
-
It's quite common PD.

Thanks PF that makes me feel better. Unfortunately I can't afford Vets at the moment, because people don't want to employ people over 50. All my money goes to feeding Kenny & paying rent & bills. I understand. Hope things improve. Get it checked when you can and I hope it stays nice and small. IF you can pull it away from his chest and its moveable, that's often a good thing. Your vet may let you delay payment or pay a bill off - I've had to ask for that before. Dogs have no sense of timing when it comes to money.

Poodle Problems Post Rescue
poodlefan replied to lucylotto's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
LL: And she did. It's temperament testing and dealing with issues that I think is best left to experienced rescuers. There's a step she can take before spending $$$ on a behaviourist. A decent trainer may be able to give her a lot of help with this dog. If you can give her general area, someone may be able to recommend someone good. If you try to pat my poodles on the head they will shy away from it. They haven't been abused - they just don't like it. -
Having it checked out might save you a lot of worry. My Lily has a lump on her chest. I've had it checked out and its nothing sinister. What ever you do keep an eye on its size. If it starts to grow get it checked.

Poodle Problems Post Rescue
poodlefan replied to lucylotto's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
LL: She should not be dealing with separation issues and stress by using an aversive collar. She needs experienced help. If she can't afford it then I hope the pro's here on the forum can advise but that's challenging to do without seeing the dog. The dog may not have been abused. It may have been poorly socialised and have poor temperament (timid, fearful etc). I would recommend confidence and team building exercise like obedience training and eventually perhaps agility. Clubs are cheap to join and she may be able to get some practical help with the dog. As already advised, she needs to give the dog some space, to be confident in dealing with it and to establish clear and consistent guidelines. Her experience is why I do not recommend novice dog owners source rescue dogs direct from pounds. I sure hope she can come up with the funds to have the dog regularly professionally groomed. -
I bought mine direct from the website amypie posted. Petnetwork also have it but given that Plush Puppy are in Qld, postage will be cheaper from them. If you give them a call, they should be able to give you a local stockist or they may even sell direct to you.

I'm going!

It can be "stalking" - predatory behaviour I've also seen it with displays of dominance around another dog. Drawing themselves up makes them appear more intimidating. Then again, the "I've got to go" walk before urinating or defecating can also look a bit like this.. If a dog is approaching my dogs or me stiff legged, I'm usually on my guard.

Patricia McConnell agrees with you. It's a one shot deal with a pup I wonder if bite force can only be modified effectively in a still developing brain?
-
Yes, some agencies (including Customs) have whole complexes devoted to breeding, raising and training dogs. I think they've had higher success rates with pups selectively bred for the work. I know some Labs used in Australia come from US working detection dog lines. They use scent dogs for all kinds of work in the US including accelerant detection work in arson investigations. And of course search and rescue.

I get it online or at shows tlc. You can get it online here Groomers has a van that does some Victorian shows I think. I tried it after reading about it here. DOLers with dogs with allergies recommended the vet grade one. I love the smell too! I've tried the white enhancing one but prefer others.
-
Nope. I use a moisturing shampoo instead. Current favourite is the Groomers EPO. Does a great job on the Whippet too!

Rubbish. The sky is not falling Bisart. Show entries are. If we do what we've always done, we'll get what we've always got - a dying sport. -
Get your Aloveen online too. Buying in bulk is another way to get more bang for your buck. You can get a litre of it for under $40 here. Keep your small bottle and decant it into the little one for use.

I doubt very much if it's still alive.
-
I'm guessing that wouldn't work with a husky You can wash the whole dog with a white enhancing shampoo if you want to!
-
PD: You do realise you're chatting to someone who has about 8 dog shampoos in the house! I don't like it because I don't care for the smell, it doesn't seem to foam enough for my taste and I think it's over priced. That said, I know plenty of people who use it and the results are great. I just prefer other products. For washing very frequently, I prefer a conditioning shampoo or one with an oil added. Without breaking the bank, I'd recommend: Fido's Emu Oil Shampoo Plush Puppy Conditioning Shampoo with Evening Primrose Groomers Shampoo with Evening Primrose These are not the cheapest shampoos around but before you faint at the prices, bear in mind that most can be diluted up to 8:1 with water. For a dog with a fair bit of white, you might like to wash the white bits first in a white enhancing shampoo and then finish all over with a conditoning shampoo.

Corvus: That wouldn't work for long if you never threw it.
