Sardines and mackeral are meat. Why do you want to feed a meat free meal?

Borzois? I've always wanted one but then I thought....what is it with me and that type of head They do fit your criteria....... Did someone say Borzoi girls?

Very competitive where you are.. some really great breeders and dogs. I'll suggest something a bit different.. Polish Lowland Sheepdog..

Yep - anytime a new dog comes into the dog park Sophie runs over for a butt-sniff wanting to play with her Hackles sky-high and people are going "is she going to attack?" Sigh. I just keep saying out loud so people can hear me "Sophie put your hackles down so everyone else knows you just want to play". People think the big scary GSD is going to eat their shit-malti-poo I'd not be happy with an unsolicited offlead greeting by a large dog displaying that level of arousal.. triggers to do anything are lowered in that state. Is Sophie fairly dominant? What do you think her reaction will be to being told to shove off by another dog? The reason I ask is I've been in precisely that situation with a GSD bitch.. when growled at by one of my dogs she attacked. My advice is not to let her run up to other dogs uninvited. Control the meet and greets very carefully.

I'm with Vickie. I think the dog was taking her cues from you. I saw a handler who seemed half hearted most of the time and that wasn't giving clear signals to the dog. If I were to pick the point where you gave up, it would be when she missed the jump after you front crossed.. your body language pulled her across the face of it. Until that point you were a committed team. After the table, note the first cue to the jump... it hardly existed and she missed it. When she didn't know what to do, she went with what gets her rewarded.. she headed for the contact. One piece of advice I'd give is to stop physically guiding her on courses when you lose your way. You did it pretty much every time you lost focus and it will get you DQ'd in the trialling ring quick smart. Looks to me like that the physical guiding is happening without you realising it most of the time. You've got a dog that is reading your body language really well. Run like you mean it, give clear directions and I think you'll see her rise to meet your performance. If you go like hell, give verbal encouragement and be certain about what you want her to do, I'd expect to see a big lift in her drive on the course. Clean Run magazine is THE best source of sets. There are also some great sets books you can buy on their website.

It's pilar erection (hackles raising).. all smooth coated dogs can do it. It's a signal that the dog is highly aroused (not necessarily aggressive). The human equivalent is getting goosebumps!

x 2 I'm sure Dogs NSW will be thrilled to receive copies of any abusive emails you receive from one of their registered breeders.

Permoxin used as a rinse would be my choice on a puppy.

That won't help anyway. Stroke the throat or OPEN the mouth. -
Liberal Senator Helen Kroger Injured In Dog Attack
poodlefan replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
They never left their yard. The same cannot be said for the dead dog. Have a good think about that - you're assigning responsibility for that dog's safety to the wrong person. Only one person is responsible for that dog's death - it's OWNER. -
I bet that's a weight off your mind.

PM Erny if you decide to get him tested WS - she knows the ins and out of this backwards.

Hmmm that sounds very much like what he has been doing. Might be making a trip to the vet soon, thanks PF. Our of idle curiosity does anyone know if Hypothyroidism is genetic? Yes, it can be and and is noted in the breed.
-
Perhaps there is a medical reason for it Wolfsong. Hypothyroidism isn't unknown in the breed and would explain the behaviour. If it kept up, that's an avenue I'd be exploring. Have a read of this

My Dog Ate Something Totally Grose
poodlefan replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just be grateful you didn't get the double. Eat some, roll in the rest -
As I said, fleas aren't an issue where I live. If they were, I'd probably be using a spot treatment. That's what I used the one time the dogs got some.

What Is Concidered A 'bland' Diet
poodlefan replied to CheekyMonkey's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just remember feed her very small amounts (eg a couple of dessertspoons full) every few hours. Avoid big meals. Hopefully she's on the mend. Darcy was given piglet mix (liquids only) for the first two days after his bad bout of HGE. Her tummy will be very raw... don't rush the feeding and don't feed her too much.. not good for them at all. -
Beladoza - could you please email me privately for an update. Cheers Good to see the NSW Breed Club becoming involved.

What Comes With A Puppy When You Buy It?
poodlefan replied to nicolatu's topic in General Dog Discussion
From a registered breeder? Minimum should be ANKC pedigree (if available already), vaccination certificate, and microchip papers if required by law in the state the pup was born. -
Thank you, yes its Sentinel. No she doesnt get fleas - touch wood never had them. Why is that Poodlefan? Is it too hard on their guts??? It's another chemical assault on their immune system. If your dog doesn't have fleas, I'd not be treating for them. In 12 years of dog ownership my dogs have had fleas ONCE.

yeah, i'm keeping that in mind. OH doesn't want CKCS... he wants a man dog. this coming from him who will make a good wife to anyone, i roll my eyes... Does he want a dog that may harm Charlie? Seriously CW, its something you need to talk about. I'd say the smaller the dog you get the better off Charlie will be. The dog sports breeds of choice in the smaller size ranges tend to be poodles, CKCS, Papillons and Shelties. Does he realise man + cute small dog = chick magnet?
-
I'd adopt the "no big deal" approach to the kitchen. Feed him outside maybe for a while? You'd probably have more success walking him through it on lead and rewarding than trying to coax him in.
-
I'd be sticking to smaller breeds. Big bouncy pups and small dogs with back issues are't a great combination. A CKCS would meet your requirements.
-
There's footage of the dog being rescued on the ABC website. Looks like a working ESS. Lucky dog - doesn't appear much the worse for the fall.

Only angry Riesenhaft.. makes me want to grab some fellow CC members, some pitchforks and torches and storm down there. The CCs will only act if members pressure them too. I'm pleased to say that my CC is acting more and more to stamp out the dodgy members... bring it on!
