  1. My dogs: black eye and fat lip Other people's dogs: broken ankle and broken wrist (2 separate incidents)
  2. The bare minimum: Shade A safe crate or pen for your dog Chair Armband or pin for your number Lead Thick skin Sense of humour Of course no one has just the bare minimum for long!
  3. Keshwar and Diva will be exhibiting. SSM is stewarding. I forgot Monday is a public holiday and didn't enter.
  4. They are still dogs. :D I dunno.... ok I concede I asked a really dumb question without thinking it through :D There's not a real downside to having a lap dog with some prey drive. A pug that was a good mouser would probably be a good thing! Many toy breeds display that talent. While we've modified the appearance of many breeds significantly from the original, most drives are still there to some degree. Now a livestock guardian with high prey drive? Very different kettle of fish.
  5. 1 in 5 dogs probably needs more exercise and attention. A prescription drug is a poor substitute for those.
  6. Generally Wahl, Oster and Andis blades and clippers are interchangeable. Not sure about other brands.
  7. We all got wet. :D Howie got Dog Challenge and that was it. Tumut tomorrow.
  8. Why don't you ring your old club and have a chat to them?
  9. Bummer. Not to worry - I'll be doing more shows out that way.
  10. Except BMP didn't comment! Thinks you're hearing echoes LOL ;) Sorry T-Time.. all those little hairy dogs in avatars look the same to me. It was damn good advice though.
  11. Code of Ethics aside, why would you want to sell the product of your blood, sweat and tears in breeding to someone who's promptly going to crossbreed? Good dogs need to perpetuate their breed, not produce F1 crosses to line someone's pocket.
  12. I'm sure most of us do. I'd hope so. But you'd probably be surprised to know how many feed something that isn't really in their budget because they are too scared of being judged by their peers if they don't feed a "brand name" to their animals. The only reason I know what people feed their dog is if they tell me. Short of doing pantry inspections at people's houses, how would anyone know who fed what? The best food for your dog is the one they do best on. Bugger what others think.
  13. Artemis Power is 20% fat. Probably 20 times the price too! Several times no doubt. Price is not the primary interest for me as it doesn't always equate to value. Based on the Uncle Albers feeding guide, I'd need to feed 3 times as much as the Power. The Power works out about $6 a kilo. No soy or wheat - that ticks several boxes for me.
  14. Another posted talked about recommending them in puppy class.
  15. I congratulate the winning handler for their win. They could be showing a 3 legged camel and I'd still do it. As far as I'm concerned that's good sportsmanship. It's the judges opinion of the dog that gets them the win, not mine. I've seen losers storm from the ring, loudly denigrate the winning dog/handler and sundry other dummy spits. The only thing that reflects poorly on is them. Ditto to BMP's advice.
  16. What matters is that the dog gets walked. Why you'd be recommending one of these for a pup beats me.
  17. The demand was created in part by a person with a beef with the purebred dog fancy, is based on misinformation and is fuelled by ignorance. No amount of responsible breeding can make an F1 crossbred reliable in terms of appearance, temperment and non-shedding. Guide dogs got out of the game for a reason. The people that continue to churn out F1 crosses don't look beyond their bank balances. There is little money to be made in responsibly and ethically breeding dogs. The people that want one "no matter what" won't be interested in waiting for pups or being vetted by breeders. They'll go where they've always gone until those sources are shut down.
  18. A dog that runs away from you is scared. If you're intimidating him one minute and coaxing him out of his kennel the next, he's also confused. A dog adopts a submissive posture to stop unwanted behaviour from others. Is this really how you want your dog to react to you? He's not learning much from all of this - other than to fear you. What is the unwanted behaviour you're getting in the back yard?
  19. Take this one step at a time. 1. Biopsy. You can't make any decision until you know what you're dealing with. 2. If benign, can it be successfully removed? You don't know yet because the vet hasn't seen it. 3. Can you and your dog deal with an amputation. Dogs tend to take these things in their stride and provided your dog is healthy, he'd probably be fine. The smaller these things are, the easier they are to deal with. Delay removes options. I hope it's benign and removeable. Think through the options and talk to your vet.
  20. Good. I look forward to seeing the local commercial puppy breeder's activities compared to that code.
