  1. Eye boogas are pretty normal for a lot of dogs. As long as it's not yellow or green (signs of infection) and his eyes aren't inflamed, don't worry. What you could look at is ways to boost his immune system. Adding something like Vitamin C or gojiberry powder to his diet may help. A small amount of apple cider vinegar can also be useful. When you say he eats "mainly raw" what else does he get. If you're really concerned you could take him to see a holistic vet. Most of what you're describing sounds like a slightly depressed immune system in action.
  2. Is Charlie white? What breed is he?
  3. Unless it's really hot, I don't bother. When I do, I use a sports drink bottle and squirt some into a small plastic bowl.
  4. Oops missed the desexed bit.. add another $150. Anaesthesia and vet time are what will cost you. For a larger dog, you'll pay more. Good idea to get both done at the same time - one less anaesethetic, one less risk.
  5. My GSD was attacked by two dogs on Sunday. Why the dogs were off-leash is beyond me, they were in an adjacent park but they left the park to cross a busy road and attack us. Perhaps it was the first time? I don't know. I think they were set-off by two fence-fighting dogs we were passing at the time. I was very proud of Sabella, she briefly defended herself when necessary, but other than that was not fazed at all. I hope she's OK Aidan. Sadly my oldest boy is coping less and less well with these sorts of incidents. Maybe I'll have to stick to walking next to busy roads - only the terminally stupid walk their dogs offlead by those.
  6. Ring your vet and ask for a phone quote. Prices vary a fair bit. My 'wet finger in the air' guess would be $200-300

Then go directly to the source and read it for yourself. Knock yourself out reading their website Personally they lose me right here The myth of animal over population has been exploded. PETA would see every companion animal desexed.. EVERY one. That's the end of companion dogs in one generation. And that's directly from their website. No dogs at all .. that's what they want and that's not hearsay. I see they are gunning for the Iditarod now.

  9. Oh no, that's disappointing. I hope it's not too bad. He's not lame thank God.
  10. I do wonder if owners would be quite so casual about allowing their dogs to rush a "tough" breed. Oh, and Howie now has a bloody torn pad.. no doubt caused by leaping around trying to get free. :
  11. Ah, two more pins in my voodoo doll tonight. About an hour into our walk I'm walking down a path in one of the green zones when up the path come a young couple with a pram and two offlead dogs - BC mix and what looks to be a Sibe mix. I keep walking and both dogs notice us. As we get closer, the Sibe mix stares, freezes and then rushes us. Male of the couple has been whistling the dogs and as the sibe mix rushes, calls its name with a slight edge of panic in his voice. I've picked Darcy (dog aggressive when cornered) up, channelled Troy and Chuck Norris and am readying myself to roundhouse kick this dog into the next suburb. Sibe X runs around us, with BC now with it and I'm rapidly reduced to a maypole of leads with a leaping Whippet trying to get loose. Eventually he does. "Oh dear" says the female of the pair "you're in a bit of trouble, would you like some help"? "No thanks" say I (somewhat narkily) "what I'd really like is for you to leash your dogs and get going". Male of the couple cranks up his testosterone and steps up. "This is an offleash area" he proclaims. "Irregardless" say I "you are still required to have your dogs under control". "They ARE under control" he says. "Yes" say I [laying on the sarcasm] "I noticed their instant response to your whistles and calls" At that point they move off, no doubt noting the uncanny similarity between yours truly and a female dog of low intellect. Seriously what part of a person walking multiple dogs onlead makes anyone conclude that their dogs rushing into the middle of them will be welcomed?? The only good thing about the encounter is that the other dogs took one look at Howie's mad zoomies and removed themselves to a safe distance.
  12. Revolution is Ivermectin - not to be used with Comfortis. I don't know about any of the others. If they are under the skin, you're going to need something other than a bath to get rid of them. Scabies mites would have been my best guess, especially if they were on you.
  13. I can't read.. breed named in the OP's post.
  14. Pressure Corn Starch Potassium Permanganate Or, if you have bought some, Quik Stop.
  15. I've had one dog do a frosty obedience trial doing bows for downs and squats for sits. Same dog did a perfect front in the recall in another trial .. to the judge standing not far from me. When given the "finish" he trotted neatly around the judge to sit at heel at my feet.
  16. Damn right they wouldn't. They'd be lynched. I think a good burning on a pyre would be more bonding for the instructor body. But it simply wouldn't be tolerated. Nor are handlers who do such things to their own dogs allowed to get away with it.
  17. Puppy ears do some really funny things, especially when they're teething. What breed and have you got a pic?
  18. Used after being recommended here on DOL or found via a Banner Ad: * Artemis dog food *K9Royale soft crate * Houndbag *Ruffwear lifejacket for the poodle that swims like a besser brick * Chris Christensen shampoos and products * Mel Buckley's show leads (although Howie got a personal style consult with Mel :D ) However, I've also been known to recommend the odd product as well. Ccrates Australian Pet Treat Company Quikshade
  19. There's only so much that make up can hide SBT.. and the older junior handlers would make me look like a dunce. They can always borrow Howie though.
  20. Is Mel coming up? I might get to run another Deerhound.. spectators seem to enjoy it when I do.
  21. "You're" husky.... My @rse.. geeze he's got a nerve.
  22. Yep, off to the vet with a faecal sample if possible. Persistent poo issues point to an underlying problem. Could be worms or a bacterial infection like coccodia. All this suggests he's not digesting his food well - not what you want in a growing pup.
  23. I should have my new Poodle-with-a-hawk by then. Awesome that you are coming, who else can you bring along from the ACT ? Dunno.. but I'll ask around. Maybe the Canberra Sighthound Mafia could be up for a run.. although Coota's triple is closer. Any word on the retail therapy?
