Sorry, the cutest toy poodle EVER lives here!

Wow - that's really impressive healing!

*hands itch for clippers to do muzzle* [maniacal giggle]

Manuka honey, paw paw ointment and aloe vera gel all have a good reputation for helping minimise scarring. I can vouch for manuka honey!

I thought this dog was still alive and recovering. Where does it say the dog died? That is good news I thought he died, that makes me a little happier. Nope, alive and until very recently, still out roaming the neighbourhood.
-
Word of mouth from satisfied puppy buyers or a recommendation here would be how I'd proceed.
-
If you'd consider an ex-racing greyhound from GAP or similar, my guess is this would be an ideal dog for your situation. A mature Whippet would be good too.

Sometimes dogs we love are not dogs we can live with. There may be a dog or a breed out there that has all the qualities you love about this boy with a lower energy level. An older Weim seems an obvious starting point. Would you take on a mature or even senior dog? I can't see why you would be flamed for recognising that, much as you love this boy, he is not right for you. Good luck finding the perfect fit for your home.

What Breed To Recommend To Young Family?
poodlefan replied to ZAUBISTAR's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd go smooth coated. Provided the dog will live with the family, maybe a Pointer. If they are bushwalkers, they'll need to keep the dog onlead, train hard for good recall or both. Any larger pup will create growing pains with small kids. That will require active management. Schauzers require a fair bit of grooming.. professional grooming to look good. -
What Breed To Recommend To Young Family?
poodlefan replied to ZAUBISTAR's topic in General Dog Discussion
Inside or outside dog? Will they take it to training? What sort of level of coat maintenance will they be willing to keep up? Is this a tick area? -
yea i rang the trainer and she advised of the hall way technique and just encouraging him with treats making alot of turns. maybe i should just ring tommorow and say im still having trouble cheers Dan Or just rock up... Personally I think its better to get pups walking along without tossing in a whole bunch of turns too early... got to go forward before you try to 'steer' them too much. Verbal encouragement helps too.

The whole reason we take our dogs to puppy training is to learn about how to get them started with issues like leash training. I would either go and ask for help or find another trainer- but you do neither yourself nor Tyson any favours if you don't get him into classes NOW. Could you not ring the trainer and discuss this? If Tyson is doing his best impression of a baulking donkey (I call this "donkey dog") on leash, this is extremely common in pups and something I'd expect any trainer to advise on. ETA: Have you tried encouraging him to follow you using a toy or food?

I can't recommend anyone Northside. Southside I'd recommend the Prickly Poodle (Fisher) - my old groomer, DOLer Poodlechic at Kambah and Capital Grooming at Chiefly.

Make sure you get another breed you really want to live with then.. (Flatcoat? Cheasapeke?) because if your pup fails to develop into a good show dog, you'll still have a dog you love to own.

Pup's Turning Into Barking And Biting Monster!
poodlefan replied to DoodleBliss's topic in Puppy Chat
DB, your pup is growing up. He'll get more stimuated by passers by and will need distraction or aversion to stop him barking. Dogs are territorial and people passing will trigger many a dog to bark. Is he still being trained regularly? Did you end up enrolling in obedience? You've got a mix with a healthy proportion of Labrador in it and many young gundogs are notoriously mouthy. You'll need to persist with discouraging him mouthing you for some time yet. As you're finding out, his jaw is getting stronger. What things do you give him to exercise his jaw on? Have you tried distracting him from the window by calling him away or offering a game? I cant see what he's doing but I honestly doubt he's responding aggressively to you when you call him.. sounds more like play. Try offering a toy. You may have yourself a barker.. some dogs are more prone to this than others. Blocking his view of passers by may help. If you continue to have concerns about this behaviour, asking a trainer to your home would be a good idea. -
You'll get just as much criticism of your dog and its breed down the local dog park as you do in the show ring. I've never had my poodles referred to as "poofy" or "neurotic" at a show. :D It's just average people RS... good and bad, arseholes and angels. You don't need a thick skin.. a sense of humour and a sense of proportion will do just fine.
-
If you don't get them, then ask me to explain. I'll be happy to as I did when you queried my assertions about differing breed body language yesterday. I thought you had personalised issues relating to colour breeding because you wrote this: You linked your dog to "people who dis Breeders" who colour breed. Seemed to me you were relating this topic to your own situation. lAnyhoo.. moving on.

Love this shot PF Yeah, it's great. I think the weave poles may be further apart for a horse than they are for dogs.. 60cm.

Chow Chow Puppy Snaps At My Other Dogs. How Can I Stop That?
poodlefan replied to spirrall's topic in Puppy Chat
X 2 There is no way in God's green earth I'd be taking any 16 week old pup to a dog park, let alone one displaying these behaviours. Enrol her in obedience where she can get some controlled socialisation and seek professional help NOW. -
And one of them has been made by you. Read the posts SaS. Those colour breeders 'being dissed' are those who are NOT doing the breed justice. I have not seen a post that suggests all Chocolate Labs are shite and all those breeding them are dodgy. What this has to do with merle Danes I don't know but I'd not make the same suggestion there either. However from your responses to my posts here and in another thread yesterday, it seems you've concluded that I've insulted you or your dog. This is what I have said in this thread. Please show me how it even vaguely suggests that I think all breeders of chocolate Labs (and to draw the analogy, merle Great Danes) are dodgy:

I asked to have the one in general deleted . He's in the northern beaches in Sydney. I would strongly recommend he book her into see K9Pro. On leash aggression is not uncommon and can be remedied via a range of methods that don't include intimidating your dog
-
So your dog is a teenager? This is absolutely normal and something that needs to be worked through with the establishment and maintenance of consistent boundaries. If you don't attend regular obedience training, I'd strongly recommend it. It establishes a pattern of leadership that can be helpful through the terrible teens.

That trainer must be on commission with a facial reconstruction surgeon Tell your friend to seek help from someone who doesn't endanger handlers with advice like that. Someone needs to assess WHY your friend's pup is reacting this way and give them a non-confrontational strategy to help with it. Where is your friend? BTW, you aren't supposed to double post threads.

Webby, you really need to get off here and take her to the vets. Hope all is OK.
