  1. Abcess maybe? They come up very fast.
  2. I hope those surviving dogs will be good for Jed's. I'm so happy for her that she managed to save so many and I hope she finds comfort in that.
  3. There's no doubt in my mind that an excited/expectant dog is the best motivation you can get for walking.
  4. Oh no - not the result I had hoped for Jed, your poor thing - this will cut deep. Thanks Goldchow.
  5. Just a thought - has a reward been offered for Magnus's return?
  6. Nick can you tell us more about the pup? Where exactly did it come from? I'd be suggesting a behaviourist as well as a vet because what you're describing suggests to me in part that this pup may never have been handled before purchase. The other behaviour says "allergies" as much as anything. A BARF diet does not guarantee no allergic reactions. What is the pup being fed and why isn't it getting access outdoors?
  7. That's my image as well. All resting together .... Hopefully Jed will be able to decide for herself how she wants this to occur. I think its important, in our eagerness to assist, that we don't make choices Jed may wish to make for herself.
  8. It will stay lit there until Jed goes home. Whilst I've never met her, she's a big part of why I enjoy this place so much and I'm devastated by what's happened to her. If anyone ever wanted to know how much she would do for her beloved dogs, she's answered that question in a way that I hope none of us ever have to emulate. I will send a card today. There will tough times ahead and I will do whatever I can for Jed. Lets hope for good news for she and Magnus. Poodlefan that is beautiful. I am sure many others would like to do this as well and join in to keep the light shining for Jed. Would you like me to change the title of the thread and invite others to join the vigil? If you'd like to WG. I'm sure most of us are trying to support Jed in ways both symbolic and practical. If Jed's family find any comfort or support here, then so much the better.

  10. I just want to add my admiration and thanks to those stepping in with practical help for Jed. You are just so fabulous and I know that she will rest easier knowing her surviving dogs are being well looked after. I can only imagine how difficult this must be to deal with emotionally. Lets hope Magnus comes home soon.
  11. I'm a shit photographer but A candle burns here to light your way back to us. I miss you Shonkypaws. Be strong and heal well my friend. I hugged my dogs for all they were worth tonight.
  12. I think we'll all have to be patient and hope for the best. I doubt there will be many updates before tomorrow. I don't know how others not in the area feel not being able to do anything concrete to help but I did think of something we can all do if we can - give blood. Jed will probably be using a fair bit so its one practical way we can try to contribute. That, and donations.
  13. If anyone can get that pic onto posters with contact numbers, it really helps. Telling the local posties can be handy too.
  14. Holy Shit. I just found out. I will donate tomorrow. Jed, you are in my thoughts. I'm so very very sorry this happened to you and your tribe. ;)
  15. And not quite as precious about bindis as his daughter!
  16. I don't like any gadget being substituted for training and used by someone who doesn't fully understand it. Haltis have their uses. However they are often used by people who don't understand how they should be and are employed in a manner contrary to the intention of the device. Using Haltis to control lunging and fitting them to flexi leads are two common examples. The idea of fitting one on a pup doesn't sit well with me. However if the owner has a bad back, it sure beats not walking the pup at all.
  17. Really? I'd be interested to see what the vet says about his hips. Going to the park is one thing. If he's not done this before and he resists getting in after exercise, I'd not be writing this off to "dominance". See what the vet says.
  18. Mrs RB: How would such a response overcome an instinctive response hard wired into the dog, triggered by movement and selectively bred for for generations. That's what you're up against trying to call a sighthound off prey. I will never be more interesting than a hare to Howard, no matter how hard it is for him to catch one. I've heard all the stuff about "you have to be the most interesting thing there" - try matching a fleeing kangaroo for "interest". All I can say to those who doubt what the sighthound folk are talking about is spend some time with them. There's a reason very few of us would ever say our dogs have 100% reliable recalls and that's even after a lot of training effort.
