My Whippet gets the Power and my poodles get the Seniors but I also feed RMBs.

Absolutely agree! The first looks untidy to me and as though he's hit the roids, the second looks very clean and sexy. All Dobes should look sexy IMO, they're a classy dog. He's fat. He'd look better lighter with a waist, an obvious tuck and better muscle tone and I'd like to see him properly stacked.

My Dad's family hails from over that side of the island.. and I spent time in Perth as a kid. I can recall my Grandad would visit us from the West and bring us a big tin of honey so pure it would be candied. -

Apparently Jarrah honey has similar qualities. Anne, Manuka Honey has excellent anti-bacterial qualities and is a good immune system booster. Medicinal grade (15 UMF and higher) honey is great for sore throats, cuts and wounds. It has been used with great effect on burns and because it coats a would with a antibacterial, moisture retaining skin, is helpful for preventing scarring. I have a tube of 50 UMF Medihoney that I use the same way folk would use Savlon and other wound creams. Thanks. I'll keep that in the memory banks and look out for it. Forgot to add - also not bad as a cough suppressent. -

Nope, very very old.. thousands of year BC. And they have the usual "pariah" shape. -
Methinks Bretty would be too young.

Hip Dysplasia ,i Don't Know What To Do...help

My 6.5kg poodle boys wouldn't get that much - and they do an hour of offlead running a day! I'd be working on no more than a 1/4 of a cup of anything in a meal for your girl. Time to put her on a food diary with very strict portion control. -

Chewy got Elliot her Golden Retriever (RIP Elliot) from whale to "wow" on the "pumpkin" diet. Reduce normal food by half and supplement with dry baked, mashed or pulped pumpkin (no butter or fats added) This is the best article on canine weight I can recommend. It is written by one of the USA's top dog sports vets but what she says applies to pets as well. 40% of Australian dogs carry far too much weight. If you love your dog, you won't keep it overweight - it will be with you for longer if its leaner. Folk need to learn to feel their dogs and adjust their diets if there weight fluctuates too high or low. -

She will get the energy she needs from the fat reserves she's storing. The last thing she needs is more calories. -
I think you should speak to breeders and owners of working breeds with reasonable drives and spend time with their dogs to ensure that your positivity becomes a certainty. No agility BC I know would be satisified with a half hour on lead walk a day. Now I am new to the whole breeders thing but would there be some breeders out there that would spend some time with me meeting there dogs even if I was not 100% on the breed or one of there litters? Yep. I suggest you head for the breed social threads and see if you can hook up with a few at shows in your region. Home visits can probably be arranged from there. In the interim, asking questions in the 101 threads and buying a few breed specific book would be a good investment in selecting your future dog.

I think a reactive dog that's already highly aroused may not give sufficient signals or give them for sufficient time for us to read.

What you describe as "anorexic" is a lean healthy weight for a Chi. She'll live longer and in better health if she looks like that. Absolutely no sugar.. that' just dead calories to her. If you want to give her roo than that has to come out of the tablespoon allowance. You have to remember that your dog has a TINY stomach. She'll eat more than she needs because thats what dogs do.. they gorge themselves. Her weight is a significant contributer to her current health issues - loving her will see you get that weight off, not feeling sorry for her and trying to liven up her diet. Remember NO TREATS.. none, unless they come out of her normal daily allowance. That means no bits of toast or other things we all love to share with our dogs. She will need very gentle exercise. How much does she get now? -
A canine masseuse friend of mine says that off lead play is the best exercise a dog can get. Glad to hear that Emmy therapy is working.

Your vet is right Bridie - she's very fat. Lovely face though! -
In my experience the dogs that do this (regardless of breed) are often "super dominant" in terms of body language. On their toes, sometimes pilar erect, tails up and wagging furiously. If a dog rebuffs their display and offers anything other than submissive responses, they react aggressively.

Whatever you do get a female. Last two on your OH's list are bull breeds - not renowned for their friendliness towards other dogs. A well bred SBT female might be OK. Husky? Ask your OH what he likes about them other than their appearance. They can be very challenging dogs to own and their prey drive can be an issue around small dogs. Huskies are not what I'd be recommending for obedience or agility. Of the breeds you list, an Australian Shepherd would probaby be your best bet. Given what you've told us about Jet, he is likely to react poorly to overtures from pups - you will need to manage this carefully. If you read the White Shepherd + CKCS? thread running here, you'll get a feel for some of the issues that a large pup with a small dog can create. They can be managed but you'll need to put a fair bit of effort into it.

If it's HGE, then he needs to be on a drip and the vet is the best place for him. I'm another person with a dog that's had two bouts of HGE. A check for potassium levels usually shows they are depleted - that's always worth checking. Recovery rate is quite good provided the dogs don't get too dehydrated. I hope its all uphill from here. Follow vets instructions about after treatment diet - it needs to be very bland for up to a week.
