Serious? Absolutely. Google it. Low levels of antibiotics cure eyestaining too. I'd not recommend that as a long term way of dealing with it either.

Sick Of Big Dogs Stalking My Swf What Can I Do?
poodlefan replied to MalteseLuna's topic in General Dog Discussion
Walk your dog onlead whenever there are large dogs around. You need to stop her bolting away from you. If she won't come to you when she's frightened then a lead is required. If you want her to have time offlead, you'll become adept at finding quiet places or visiting dogs parks at quiet hours. You may not like this advice but it will keep your dog in one piece. -
This diet would appear to be seriously deficient in calcium. You need to supplement it with either a decent kibble or feed her raw meat on the bone. She needs calcium to develop a strong skeleton. If she's not eating all her food, reduce the frequency and/or quantity. At her age, two meals a day will suffice. Small or not, she's still a dog and would probably do better being fed like one of your working dogs but in a smaller quantity. As she is teething this would probably go a long way to explaining the eye staining. As for the submissive wetting, get your friends and family to stop greeting her until she calms down and it should improve. Maturity also helps. :D I would not recommend feeding tomato paste regularly to a dog. Tomatoes contain chemicals that are toxic to many dogs and tomato paste is highly concentrated tomatoes. Find the cause, don't mask the symptoms.

At 20 months old your dog is an adult, not a puppy. The tear staining is not "normal" but is common in a lot of dogs. It often indicates an issue in the head or neck and some say is a symptom of a depressed immune system. A visit to the vet to have her eyes, teeth and ears checked would be a good idea. She licks you because she finds it pleasureable and you don't stop it. Some dogs are rumoured to enjoy the taste but if you are feeding her a balanced diet, then she doesn't need supplements. What do you feed her? Is she desexed? What you're describing with the urinating sounds like a weak bladder or submissive wetting but at 20 months, she should have grown out of tat.

Don't get him the same one! Perhaps a flatter bed and some polar fleece blankets might be the go.
-
Our skin and dog's skin is not the same. Humans also know not to rub hair dye with our hands and then rub our faces or to lick it. Stick to the safe stuff.

It also contains the answer to your question. Use canine dye. Human hair dye is pretty strong stuff.

How good it is for a dog's skin is another issue.

Need Advice In Creating A Stress Free Bath Time.
poodlefan replied to iheartmorrison's topic in Puppy Chat
Do it often, do some quick washes like legs only, use a non-slipn mat and a shower hose and keep the water off his head. Wet the dog, turn the water off, soap him up and rinse him off. Don't try getting his head wet until he's standing like a rock for a normal bath. I have mine in the tub from when they are babies and whilst none of them enjoy it, they all tolerate it. -
Tell that to the two next door!!

Go and price a decent covered arena and you'll find out why people aren't jumping to build them. We went through the exercise at our club... $80K without lighting. That's way beyond the reach of a lot of clubs and the money for private training facilities simply isn't in dog sports like it is in the USA. Agility entries over there are around $20 a class I believe. More facilities raises the costs. Over there in a lot of areas they have the incentive that metres of snow outside provides. Here it is feasible to run trials outdoors most of the year.

I would not feed meat off the bone. Growing pups need a balance of calcium and phosphorus which will not be achieved with feeding meat alone. Id recommend adding chicken wings, drumsticks, carcasses and other raw meaty bones as a supplement and to exercise those growing jaw muscles.

Doesn't mean they are quiet though. Mmm yeah true I did a Google search and chose small breeds that are described as 'quiet' or 'fairly quiet' (anyone experienced with these breeds are welcome to agree/disagree/give opinions): Affenpinscher American Staffordshire Terrier Bedlington Terrier Boston Terrier Brittany Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Chinese Crested English Cocker Spaniel French Bulldog Italian Greyhound Japanese Chin Kerry Blue Terrier Lhasa Apso Pekingese Shih Tzu Staffordshire Bull Terrier Tibetan Spaniel Whippet There are quite a few dogs on that list that I'd not consider "small". Amstaffs, Brittanies, Kerry Blues, SBTs and Whippets are all medium breeds IMO.

I think getting a second dog to fix a behavioural issue with your first is fraught with danger. What would you do if you ended up with TWO dogs with separation anxiety?? Pups take their lead from older dogs. Get some help, fix the issue and then add a second dog for the best reason there is to get one - because you'd really like another. Personally I recommend spacing dogs out a fair way. Two young dogs is fun. Two very old dogs is challenging and losing two in quick succession is heartbreak. Depending on the standard life span of your dog, I'd wait 4 - 6 years to get a pup or get a mature dog 4-6 years older than your current one. A well adjusted more mature dog might solve both issues.

Training A Dog To "ask" To Go To The Toilet
poodlefan replied to dee lee's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
No can do. We live in a high risk area for burglaries, any size dog door a GR can get through, a junkie can too. Get one with an electronic lock and a collar that triggers it to open. Oh and get a security system. A crowbar will see any door off its hinges pretty damn quickly. -
My guess would be because they associate it with marking in inappropriate places?

I thought of that too but i figured that our other dog would be sick too seeing as she eats more chipbark than she does he now also looks different in the eyes and his face. If you're worried enough to post about it on the internet, spend the money and take the dog to the vet NOW. He could be very bady dehydrated for a start.

Onlead, all dogs are walked together. They are basically expected to walk on a loose lead and not to blunder into one another or me. Occasionally I get lead macrame but most of the time they stay in the one spot. Ted my senior Mini Poodle boy is a bit like a riding school pony - once you turn for home he wants to pull a little. As he weighs 6.5kg and is 12 years old and wears a harness, I let him.

It's not tied to gender either. I have a bitch that cocks her leg to mark. She's not unique.

Your Definition Of A Proper Socialised Dog
poodlefan replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
To me a well socialised dog is one that does not react adversely to different situations, dogs and people. It can adjust to these situations with a minimum of stress. Dogs are territorial pack animals. We've adapted some breeds to be more willing to engage with strange dogs but its not a lack of socialisation that makes many dogs not want to play - ESPECIALLY with dogs far different from them in size and play styles. Mind you, having seen some dogs what some owners regard as "playful", its their dogs that lack social skills. Displays of dominance and extremely rough play with strange dogs don't mean "well socialised" in my book. A dog approaching mine stiff legged, drawn up on its does and with hackles and tail over its back doesn't spell "he just wants to play" to me. -
The heel position is not what you want for gaiting a dog in conformation. I'd be leaving that for obedience training. For conformation you want the dog away from your legs and not looking at you.
-
A combination of raw meaty bones (like chicken wings) and a premium kibble would be a good diet for a growing pup.
-
BTW I just buy ordinary whey powder from the health food shop. If you want him to show more interest in kibble, exercise him first and feed him late. Dogs won't starve themselves.
