  1. I've googled about this stuff before. Some of the USA hits talk about the grass potentially giving off toxic fumes. I know someone with artificial grass who has lost two dogs to IMHA. I'd be wanting to find out a lot more about it before I laid any in my yard.
  2. Just out of interest, how many of the dogs people know of that lived to a ripe old age were fat?
  3. Sounds to me like you need to find a better obedience class, rather than ceasing training altogether.
  4. I'd make sure she gets a full complement of Omega 3,6 9 oils in her diet. Regular trimming is a good idea.
  5. Good that numbers are starting to arrive! Is Finn all gussied up to play with the Russian supermodel??
  6. I don't mind seeing slightly ribby pups. It's better for them than being porkers. With some breeds, "slightly ribby" is almost inevitable anyway if they aren't too fat.
  7. Weather now "possible shower" for Fri, Sat and "clearing shower" for Sunday. Here's hoping the front crosses through FAST!!
  8. Does he look like a toast rack? If he doesn't he's probably getting enough. If you can feel his ribs pressing your hands lightly on his ribcage he's probably about right. You shouldn't be able to feel his spine or hips that easily. If you're really concerned, take him to the vet for a weigh in an monitor his weight gain from there.
  9. Then add a 'stay' and use it when you're dressing. She can't rip your clothes or stockings if she's got her bum planted on the ground. Maybe you need to remove rewards from the pantry proximity. If she's fed for being there with the door open, its not surprising that she tries to open it or offers behaviour that brings reward at other times. Once again, I'd suggest you teach a substitute behaviour - train her to go to her mat, bed or crate when you are on the couch. Don't allow this situation to happen. It doesn't have to be forever for many of the more restrictive practices you need now but you do need to restrict her until you're confident that she knows what's allowed and what's not.
  10. My guess is that these dog beaches allow people on them too.. even without a dog escort.
  11. Sal we've all been there. But channel your frustration into action. You've got a smart, active, busy breed. Sort out the basics now and the pay off will last a lifetime. How is training her not to mouth going?
  12. Lets get one thing straight. There is no such thing as a 'dog beach'. There are beaches where dogs are permitted but all beaches are people beaches. If a family wants to set up a picnic in the middle of a dog beach then its up to dog owners to be sure that they can do so without interference. That's the reality of the situation folks.
  13. No the dogs aren't pestering people I am talking literally just walking past them. I have seen it numerous times. Call your dog in to heel, move past briskly and shrug it off. We all have a vested interest in stopping our dogs from bothering people on the few beaches they are allowed on.
  14. The key to finding the right pup (of any breed) is to find the right breeder. The right breeder will be registered, health test breeding dogs and raise the pups to rehome to carefully vetted new owners.
  15. I don't think hating those who fear or dislike dogs does dogs any favours. The fear is genuine. The dislike is often the result of irresponsible dog owners making it harder for the rest of us. Make your dog as unthreatening as possible and keep it away from strangers unless they want to greet it. Being on a dog beach isn't a permit to let your dog make a pest of itself.
  16. Survivor of massacre still has the same owner. That's the dog's real problem IMO.
  17. Sal, I'd say at least 50% of the issues you're having are partly created by you. I know pups get very frustrating but you need to train smarter. Freedom in the house needs to be earned by appropriate toileting habits. Every accident inside encourages more. If you cannot watch her, pen her. Personally I'd crate her. If she pees or poos inside, its your fault I'm afraid, not hers.
  18. Why do you make your dogs sit.. its just begging for another dog to come up. For a fear aggressive dog, its painting a target on it that says "I'm in a vulnerable position and cannot move to avoid an encounter". Sitting prolongs the time it takes for another dog to pass. I'd be asking for a focussed 'heel' and motoring past. Dogs wouldn't naturally sit to greet a strange dog. Personally I think its best not to ask them to.
  19. Are you saying that he's not allowed out of the laundry when you are home unless he is outside with you? If that's the case, then yes, Rosalie you are leaving the pup alone too much. He's a living animal, not a doll to be taken out, played with and put away again. He's not going to learn toilet training, or how to interact with people if he spends the overwhelming amount of his time in a room that's basically a prison. Do you have a secure back yard? Rehome him now. Surrender him to a decent rescue and learn from this experience. No responsible breeder would sell a six week old pup, let alone into a situation like this. As he grows, he's going to get mighty frustrated and bored and frankly if he's confined as much as it seems he is, he'll have very little muscle development and an ingrained habit of toileting where he sleeps and eats. Not good.
  20. Is it possible that she's simply drinking more? Have you changed her diet recently?? Has she been tested for hormone levels? Hormonal incontinence might be another possiblity. Is she desexed and was she done young?
  21. No numbers here either. If they don't come in the mail tomorrow, I won't receive them. We leave Thursday morning.
  22. Given that this condition is caused by incomplete removal of the uterus, see if you can negotiate a good deal for what is effectively a correction for a botched job. Interestingly, my friend's bitch (now an old girl) has always had a very attractive scent to male dogs..
  23. Where's the photos???????????????????? :
