  1. Hasn't stopped his food stealing issues though.
  2. Given that most dog bites are on kids aged under 4, this program will miss the most at risk age group. Maybe something in prenatal classes would be a bloody good idea. After all, its PARENTS that need education more than anyone.
  3. Protein and fat levels vary according to the product. I've been looking at the Canidae Platinum which is the seniors/weight control one they do. Its 20% protein and 8.5% fat. Sagittarian is trying one of her older dogs on it. I'm awaiting the result of the experiment.
  4. The Canidae has other meats in it. How does Mandella feel about fish? Canidae also do a Lamb and Rice and a Salmon that might suit. Maybe if you PM Sagitarrian she can make a recommendation. Or get Artemis and Canidae to send you some samples? All the ingredients for these foods are on the Manufacturers Australian websites.
  5. That's the Maximal. Their other foods don't contain wheat, corn or soy though.
  6. Artemis or Canidae I'm feeding Howie the Canidae All Life Stages grain free atm. As it has other vegetable fillers, the protein on it isn't through the roof like Artemis Maximal.
  7. There are 4 days of dog shows on in Canberra this weekend. Would she be up to going out to have a bit of a look around?
  8. Big D Total rubbish. A Flatcoated Retriever is a large dog with exactly the same sort of teeth as any other dog. There's NOTHING weak about a gundogs jaw - what most gundogs have is good bite inhibtion. This has to be taught. Some gundogs have hard mouths and ANY gundog sufficiently motivated can inflict a very painful bite. Its precisely this "all breed x are lovely dogs and all breed Y are nasty" thinking that sees literally thousands of kids in families with 'good breeds' take a trip to casualty every year. Toss your "all Flatcoats are angels" thinking out the door Big D. The first thing any responsible rescue does is evaluate the dog's behaviour without taking breed into account. If that dog had been properly evaluated you should thank your lucky stars the rescue made the right decision about not rehoming it.
  9. Are they aware that most oodles coats are very high maintenance? If they're prepared to consider an oodle, they should consider the original and best one -a poodle. A Miniature Poodle would tick all the boxes except the maintenance one but they'd be less work than many poodle crosses.
  10. The old wives tale is that the darker the dog, the more hunting instinct it should have. I think that colour is OK here. A friend who breeds working GRs has a dog close to that colour.
  11. Buy a crate. Teach him that the crate is his place.
  12. I have to confess that the Toy poodle didn't participate in the dispatch of that rabbit. She sure was interested in digesting it though. Just showing it can be done:
  13. On a poodle list I used to be on there were Americans who shot over their mini and toy poodles.
  14. Sadly, yes. Go look at the pics in the Lab profiles here.
  15. The short and rather obvious answer to that it that its better to risk the life of the dog than the life of a police officer. And the other side of that coin is that a bite sure beats a bullet if you're on the receiving end. And if the dog misses its target its unlikely to kill an innocent bystander What utter rubbish. The dogs call off. They aren't deployed with a range of targets available and they aren't trained to kill anyway but to hold. When was the last time you heard of a police dog killing ANYONE?
  16. Some of the working line dogs I've posted won't be found in this country. There are working lines in most of the gundog breeds though.
  17. Working Labrador Bench Lab I think in this case the major difference is the condition of the dogs. Dog 2 needs to lose the kilos and tone up!
  18. They tend to be more moderate. I think "moderate" is a good thing in a dog.
  19. Working Clumber Spaniels Bench Clumber: Lower, heavier, looser skin (especially on head) Some of the working line dogs have more colour - Clumber and English Setters are examples.
