  1. No Artemis or Canidae product contains corn, wheat or soy. Some have no grain at all.
  2. There are six Lagotto breeders listed for NSW on the DOL Breed page here I'd imagine several of them attend shows regularly in Sydney as they come to Canberra too.
  3. Not by me it isn't. More than a few dogs in offleash areas are there because they're a pain to walk on lead and their owners have minimal control over them. This is particularly the case for fenced off leash areas.
  4. If I were the dog's owner, I'd be really keen to move.
  5. And if the Whippet got spooked or decided it wanted away, lets not kid ourselves about a five year old's chances of remaining on her feet with the lead in her hand Chewie. What your child does under the supervision of an adult in a low risk environment is one thing but in terms of serious on lead control, there simply wouldn't be any if the dog meant business. I thought this wasn't a purebred Whippet anyway but a mix with a smaller breed?
  6. Not all dogs will respond nicely to being grabbed by the collar either.
  7. Shes a Labrador I'd suggest you wait a couple of months at least. Talk to your vet but I'd recommend no earlier than 7 months for such a big breed. Later would be better but if you don't want to deal with a season 7 months sounds about right. What does her breeder recommmend?
  8. Good luck with it, if you decide that's the way to go. It made Macy look like a Telly Tubby within a week and she had to go on a diet. I think Sessy has been on it for 6 weeks now and there haven't been the ups and downs with weight , that I've had with other brands. Photos or it never happened.
  9. Don't tell the dog off, tell the OWNER. I think that an offlead dog beach is probably not the place I'd be taking a young pup. As you've found out, some other owners either can't control their dogs or don't see the need to.
  10. Way too strong for a 10 year old to walk though I reckon Oakway.. Probably a bit big for one to carry too.
  11. I am having that issue at the moment. All my whippets are doing great on one brand yet I'm STILL finding it hard to keep any kind of decent condition on my fawn boy. He is a real poor doer. His coat is still dull yet the other whippets do fantastic on it and their coats gleam. So I'm starting him on Nutro and will go from there. I currently use Artemis Osopure Power which the others do really well with. Royal Canin (oops had wrong brand) make a very high fat one (30% ) targetted at sled dogs, greyhounds etc. Might be worth a try if you can find it. Oh, and pictures of fawn boy required. I have a fawn boy too!
  12. I'd be going smaller - a more robust Toy breed like a Pug. Any dog, even a small breed, is quite capable of pulling like a train if not trained otherwise and I can't see a novice 10 year old as up to the task which means it will have to be mum.
  13. Is remedial training out of the question?
  14. That shed like buggery I'm told. If your friend thinks that a short haired dog means less hair in the house I'd be thinking again. I think this needs to be a family decision based on more than what a 10 year old likes the look of. What sort of exercise and training will the next dog get?
  15. Nope, I'd say the best protection you've got is a very clear understanding with the buyer that a "show quality pup" is a prospect, not a certainty. That and making no assumptions that previous experience in the show ring guarantees a decent buyer.

    Husky Puppy

How is this person attempting to catch the puppy? If its chase and grab then she's making the problem worse. I'd be sitting down in the backyard with a book and a container of treats and tossing one at the pup from a distance. Work on letting the pup do the approaching and toss treats for any closure of distance. Your friend needs to demonstrate that he/she is not a threat and brings good things. Trust can be built from there. Its early days - no need to give up so easily.
  17. You are only limited to two because you refuse to consider the possiblity of bringing a pup over from the east. Breeder B needs to know that you are: * interested in showing * prepared to negotitate terms on the dog (eg. co-ownership) before considering registering a pup on Main. I'm thinking that Breeder B's Limited Register ad is aimed at pet puppy buyers. If you are serious about showing then you need to buy the best quality pup you can find. If that's east then that's where you should be looking.
  18. There is a difference between physical and social dominance. Sadly, not all dog owners know the difference.
  19. Actually they get out in under 5 weeks - their parents are stuck there until they can't produce anymore. I like my puppies like I like my eggs - free range.
  20. That's a retained puppy canine and it looks to have been there a while. How old is Marley now? If it won't budge then it needs to be extracted. Has he been desexed yet because if that's due soon the tooth can be done at the same time.
  21. Don't over do the exercise on a growing pup - it can lead to joint issues. Keep her nice and lean - this helps lessen the chances of that occuring too.
  22. x 2 Until the WHY of this behaviour is understood, the HOW of resolving it will be unknown. Personally I don't think asking the dog to sit is often very helpful. IF the behaviour is anxiety driven, it just makes the dog more vulnerable. Dog and owner need to be looked at as a package. The owner's behaviour sometimes cues or reinforces the dog's.
