I'd suggest you email the Australian distributors and get some samples of each. I rotate what I feed a bit - I figure variety doesn't hurt. So far my dogs have had Artemis and Canidae. They didn't like the Holistic Select Salmon sample I tried them on.

Need Advice To Give To Friend Looking For An "oodle"
poodlefan replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks Elfin. That was my feel for where ANKC registered poodles were at but I couldn't provide the facts to support it. I don't know a breeder that hasn't tested. Many are now in the happy position of producing pups clear by parentage. -
Dog Urine Odour + Desexing And Gender
poodlefan replied to jacqui835's topic in General Dog Discussion
Kiff also does this (the only greyhound that we've had here who does it ) and there's been days he's come back to the back door with one foot literally yellow and soaked- wanting to come back inside to sleep next to my side of the bed, of course. I'm very grateful he's desexed and that it doesn't smell, I'm not sure I could stomach having to wipe that off first thing in the morning, otherwise... Baby wipes are wonderful for dealing with pee legs. -
Dog Urine Odour + Desexing And Gender

Howie marks his front legs fairly regularly. I definitely know what his urine smells like. Sounds like Lewis has a better aim. :D -
Dog Urine Odour + Desexing And Gender

I agree. I really noticed that Darcy's urine changed when he was desexed at 16 months. Howie is still entire. His urine became a little less pungent when he reached 18 months but on occasion it seems stronger. I wonder if that's due to changes in hormone levels as he is still maturing. -

Not advocating cross breeding but I am one that likes advocating the truth. Plenty of purebred poodles with PRA from reg. breeders. Not all reg. breeders conduct health tests. Moselle sometimes I wonder why you're a member here. You certainly seem to hold a low opinion of both purebred dogs and their breeders :D -
:D On which register? None. It's one of those Labradoodles with hybrid vigour you know Souff.. Owner paid megabucks, bought all the hype and has a dog on borrowed time. If that's the standard we can expect from the Australian Association of Pet Dog Breeders then there will be a lot of heart broken "pet" dog owners in the future too.

Was out at a dog club with a friend a couple of weeks ago. Another member turned up with her dog. The dog's gait was shocking... hocks with zero lateral stabilty, it could only bunny hop to run. Its not even 3 years old and yep, its got HD. Tell me that those kinds of issues don't matter to "pet" owners. That dog will break its owners heart before it goes to God far too young.

There are breeders of these crosses out there with great sales pitches and who'll happily spend half an hour on the phone telling you any number of porkies to take your money. -

Ah.... there's not much "laid back" about poodles. CKCS are way more laid back than my woolly friends are. Ask her if she wanted a small SUV and someone bolted the front end of a Nissan Micra to the back end of a Nissan Patrol would it look like a Micra but drive like a patrol? That's the crap that 'breeder' is spinning her. For the record, some of the poodle crosses out there can only be described as HYPER. No doubt the quality of the parent breeding stock has something to do with it. Get her to ask the breeder if she'll take the dog back if it doesn't end up looking like a CKCS but acting like a poodle. That might produce an interesting result. -

Tell her the truth. That many "cavoodles" are lovely dogs but they are a genetic lottery. Heavy long bodies on thin poodle legs, big eyes in fine skulls.. you name it. If she wants a non-shedding pup, she probably won't get one. Its coat may be harder to maintain than a poodles and without the benefits of a non-shedding dog. As very few crossbred breeders health test their dogs she may end up with one with simple (but expensive) health issues like luxating patellas that BOTH breeds can suffer from. That many of these dogs are whelped and raised than less than ideal circumstances and may come with temperament issues like timidity. Then direct her to the issues currently being experienced by one of the owners of this cross in the puppy thread. Tell her she's buying a pup, not a friend. It doesn't matter how "nice" the breeder is if the pup isnt going to be what she thinks she's getting. I suspect it will all fall on deaf ears. ETA: Ask her what she's looking for in a dog. Poodles and CKCS are NOTHING alike in temperament IMO. Even Toy and Mini poodles are different dogs. If she thinks that all dogs are alike she needs to rethink that. If she wants a calm CKCS and she gets an off the wall poodle temperament she may not be happy. -
Save your breath. I'd not be happy to see something I said on Facebook copied and pasted for those I'd not given access to read. Just let it go I say. I'm sure your friend will be relieved if you decide not to get into it with her OH.

What do you think he's crossed with and how long is his coat? Is it a short coat. A Whippety friend put me onto the Zoom Groom - awesome on short coats. Regular warm baths move a lot of hair too.

generally or roughly at what age is the end of adolesence or is it different for different dogs and breeds? It differs but in the case of my boys (Mini Poodles and a Whippet) I'd have said between 16-18 months. The worst period with some dogs is definitely 7-10 months IMO. That's the "you're not the boss of ME" stage. Witness the number of young dogs offloaded on pound at that age. No longer cute babies and if no training's been done - absolute handfuls sometimes.

Yes. They really are miniature horses aren't they - not just small ponies. Very elegant heads and necks. Amazing manes too!

Rare Special Needs Breeds In Pet Shops
poodlefan replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Someone I know bought a CKCS cross from a local pet shop. He was told the dog wouldn't grow any taller. It was 8 weeks old. ;) -
;) Why? Foxtails have free postage at the moment from memory - bargain! Because you can't get stuff sent from the US and only buy one item, you NEED to buy one of the talking birds, the zap ball, the cheap wubbas ($8.95!), the stuffing free fox.... Clearly you subscribe to the Poodefan Theory of Economics. I can highly recommend the Skineez Raccoons too by the way :D Yep, we had to add a Skineez squirrel to our cool coat order The Mallards are cute too.. and the skunks.. ;)

Didn't seem to with any of my boys. Frankly I think the end of adolesence has more effect. For some dogs, that time and desexing coincide.
-
There has to be a bull doesn't there? ;)
-
Yup this is where I got them! Ordered them on Wednesday and for some freaky reason they arrived today! Haven't unpacked anything from the giant box yet! Shall investigate tomorrow and see what they look like! Not as bad as you're imagining I reckon. :D If you didn't know what they were, I'm not sure you'd guess that easily.
-
Stunning!! :D Can't say I've ever been a fan of wall eyes in horses but they are gorgeous.

My Whippet was the first poo eater I've owned. He only did it as a pup. Never his own poo, just other dogs. He grew out of the habit. No idea why he did it or stopped. :D It does seem to be more common in pups than adults though.
