Yep! Wish they were here. For sure. I was only thinking this morning how much I'd like a coonhound! Ok, to search for a non shaggy dog... I'm not sure a dog that bays would appeal to neighbours though. My neighbour hates me already.... Better get two then!

Whats The Best Tick Prevention?
poodlefan replied to dandybrush's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Permoxin is another option. A weekly permoxin rinse is meant to be pretty effective. You can also make it into a spray for more frequent use. -
Bergamasco? Yay! Yep, aren't they gorgeous? I'd love one, one day! There is at least one in the country. I saw it at a show at Wagga. Those corded coats are harder to maintain than a poodle clip I reckon. OK, what's this? (no cheating by looking at the image code )

Whats The Best Tick Prevention?

The one in proban is an insecticide. You're basically making your dog toxic to ticks - to do that you're loading the dog with a chemical substance than can be highly toxic if the dog has prolonged exposure or achieves a high enough dose. Liver damange is one potential side effect. -

Most puppy preschools cater specifically for partially vaccinated pups. -
They're excellent models. So elegant! We have a whippet at dog school and she is so well-behaved. Her owner keeps trying to tell me that she's a monster at home and very naughty but I can't believe it! I can!!!!

I agree. My usual time in tick areas is less than a week. With poodle coat, I'm prepared to give an organophosphate for that period of time. I do manual searches but I'd not like to miss anything. -

Best prevention: don't live in a tick area When I visit one I use Proban and Advantix -
I think they are dangerous!! That wrap style heeling must trip many a handler.

aussielover: x 2 I reward even if its an ordinary recall. My dogs are taught that when the whistle is blown, ALL dogs get a treat.

Some breeds haven't lost any - they still have a rear dewclaw. -
At some point Bub you have to have confidence in your training and trust your dog. I know you're not thinking of limiting her enjoyment of other dogs to ensure her focus on you but it's not an unusual response to these questions. One suggestion I would make is not to get into the habit of only calling her away from dogs to leash up. Make a habit of calling her away, rewarding and releasing her back to play - no negative associations can stem from the recall then.

Not sure about PP products but have to say Liberty Tables are the best, I have 3 all made to size for my standards, Chris, Joan ans Colin are all very helpful, home number is 97766500 I love my Liberty table too!

Bub: You still have praise and pats. Food is not the only reward dogs respond to. Reinforcement of the recall is the way to go. Continued association of coming to you with good things is how its done. But frankly I'd not see one positive experience as undermining months of training unless it was very significant.

Generic piece of advice. PADLOCK YOUR YARD GATES. If nothing else it will eliminate all but the very determined from entering your yard. Hope she's OK.

Very good idea

If you won't keep things away from her, then its your fault I'm afraid if she chews them. I'd not be punishing the dog for my own mistake - she'd have absolutely no idea why she'd be in trouble. Put anything away you don't want her to have. Baby gates are a great way of keeping dogs out of rooms you don't want them in (even compost bin panels work) What chews do you offer her? There is no second round of teething - she's got all the teeth she's ever going to get. What you're probably dealing with is boredom and an appropriate channel for the chewing and putting things away or keeping her out of areas is the only way to go. Sounds like a decent kennel outside might be a good investment to.

I assume you've put practices in place to stop a reoccurrence. Its a fast track to SERIOUS fights.

Help New Puppy, Dont Know What Im Doing, Advice Needed

Read the information about raising a puppy in the training section on this website from cover to cover. You will not find great puppy food at Coles. Chicken necks and wings are useful to feed in conjunction with a good puppy kibble but you need to go to a bigger pet supplies place for that. You won't be getting any pats on the back on this forum for impulse buying a crossbred pup from a petshop. Weather the storm and you'll get a lot of help here. You're going to need it. Sadly, had you bought from a responsible breeder, you'd have got a lot of helpful information both before and after purchase from them. Rein the kids in now. He's a baby animal not a Toy.. control them or he may end up biting to defend himself from unwanted attention. He is too young and too small to be handled by them without supervision. Yes, crate him and teach them to leave him alone when crated. You must get up and take him out to the toilet during the night when he stirs in his crate if you want him to be toilet trained. He'll need to be by you in your room for that. Offtopic: If anyone was wondering what sorts of topics I was referring to in my posts to fatso the other day, this is a classic example. BYB crossbred pup, bought by unsuspecting owner and now it will be a purebred forum that picks up the pieces and helps the owner out. -
TW said: I'm not "twisting" anything. TW associates the practice with puppy mills and therefore objects to anyone doing it. TW is entitled to his/her opinion. I am equally entitled on a discussion forum, to debate it. I have abided by forum rules. If TW wants to throw his/her bike in the bushes and leave the thread how is my conduct "unfair".
