  1. Keshwar perhaps the best way of getting a definitive answer is to contact the Club Secretary and outline the issue for the Club's determination?? I know its run under the auspices of the VCA but at least this way you won't surprise anyone. Judge, steward and Club Committee will all know.
  2. My guess is that to a dog your kennel will be like a cross between a wind tunnel and a freezer. The dog will be far too close to the outlet inside. My guess is you'll find the dog spends its time in front of the kennel enjoying the air that comes out the front door.
  3. poodlefan not having a got at you in any way what so ever. It will not make the slightest bit of difference even if the meat is passed for human consumption. The cysts are still there they can not harm you, they MUST first travel through the host, the dog before you can catch it. It comes from the dry feces. My understanding Oakway is that any offal deemed likely to be infected with cysts doesn't pass inspection. It lowers the risk but doesn't remove it entirely - hence the requirement for an effective worming regime.
  4. Get an alarm system. They still have to open the door at some point. Locked doors only stop honest folk. They can break windows, remove roof tiles - you name it. A back to base alarm is the best deterrent along with a dog.
  5. And so they should have to!! If people are to be penalised under the law then the rangers need to be able to prove the offences, not stick a wet finger in the air and be the judge as well. Not one of the events mentioned in that article is by a so called "restricted breed" so where's the evidence for toughening up laws relating to them?
  6. There are doggie doors big enough for Golden Retrievers - I know a large male squeezed through mine once. :D Most dogs don't do a full 12 hours overnight. IF you toilet your dog before bed at 10.00 and get up at 7.00, that's only 9 hours.
  7. Feed only offal passed by inspection for human consumption. Worm your dog regularly. I've never heard of anyone having issues if they follow this advice.
  8. If you are really keen on having a pack of dogs, then I'd look to breeds that have been selectively developed to love and work with other dogs or to have good manners with others. Scent hounds would be the most obvious choices. Many gundog breeds were developed to behave well around other dogs but these days I'd still be choosing carefully and following the guidance SSM gave about blending dogs. There are sharp and amicable dogs in most breeds but breed does matter for these issues.
  9. My three poodles run with FHRPs GSP without issue. He has been taught from a very early age to respect their space. ETA: Darcy had a tug of war with Polo on the weekend. Darcy was tugging with all his might - Polo just stood there. Adding a poodle pup with the older dogs would be easier than a GSP pup with poodles I reckon. You do know there's a breed called a Pudelpointer don't you?? It combined Standard Poodle with (English) Pointers.
  10. I am grooming Darcy tonight. I"ll post a pic of my efforts. She can buy her hubby the same T-Shirt my friend got hers. It said "The Poodle is NOT with me" He was completely smitten within a fortnight. Poodle pups are gorgeous. In the meantime, here's a headshot.
  11. A German Shepherd, or a Lab. Very different dogs - he'll need to really focus on what he's looking for in a dog. Socialisation, training and management all matter. SkySoaringMagpie made a comment to me the other day that resonated. She said that no successful mulitdog household exists without effective management. Issues like balancing one on one time with pack time, resources, feeding and walking routines all need to be factored in. So do vet bills - more dogs equal more of those. Every dog you add to the mix creates more management challenges. Hasten slowly. I'd be spacing the dogs out a couple of years apart.
  12. Breed WILL matter. So will age and sex. What breed is Rehnagaede looking at getting?
  13. I'd be looking at a CCrates Securapen (no floor) in one of the larger sizes. If your car will carry a big load, a very large show trolley would also work - they are great for wheeling all your gear to your camping spot for the day.
  14. When do you walk her? Does she get a walk before you leave for work? 12 hours is a long time for any dog to go without toileting.
  15. Well bred Miniature Poodle! It doesn't have to be kept in fru fru clip. One will be athletic enough to play soccer with the kids, go on long walks and be a great family pet. Avoid white and they'll cut the bathing in half. As long as they are up for a decent walk every day and some obedience training, I reckon they'd love one. I know a few adult men who won't have any other breed as they grew up with poodles. :D
  16. I meant that I don't think some dogs are particularly uninhibited about pooing off their turf.
  17. I'm not so sure about that. One of mine will hold out as long as physically possible if going means going on lead and in public. It's a pain on those long show weekends. For both of us. I think some dogs do demonstrate inhibition about pooing off their own turf. However I'm not sure that the converse is true.
  18. The kids friends may all have one but the pounds are full of them too. Popular and best dog for this family may not be one and the same. Back to basics: Inside/outside dog or outside only? How much training and exercise will the dog get? Do they want to take it to the dog park, the beach or on long walks? Are they up for regular grooming and professional clipping?
  19. Howie does this every time. I think the stimulation of a car trip and having to hold it in the car usually produces that result. Excitement can stimulate the gut just as much as exercise -some dogs get the runs when they are very excited or stressed.
  20. Wow, sounds like quite a dog *Adds to list of dogs to reccomend to people who want a small dog* Thats what my friend thought too.....until she googled and came up with a $2000 price tag! is this true??? Check with the Havanese folk but remember this is a very new breed to the country. What attracts the family to the smaller fluffies?
  21. My oldest poodle boy's PB for poos on a walk is 4 in an hour. Don't walk him for two day and he can get quite bound up. I think its just his gut is stimulated by the activity. He will do the whole "kick the back legs and run madly inside looking happy" but only from the back yard.
  22. What has lead you to conclude that your dog poos when she's joyful Chewie? The fact that one of your dogs seems more willing to take a dump in public than others doesn't necessarily mean anything of the sort IMO. Maybe she's got a more active gut than the others. My Whippet will generally have a poo within 5 minutes of the start of a walk or as soon as he's out of the car after a trip. I honestly think he just needs to go, not that he gets a kick out of defecating in public. :D
  23. depends if you like walking a turd exterior to the dog. I don't like it but I do it. Sure beats leaving it for others to tread, roll their pram, bike or wheelchair in. Nappy bags help deaden the smell. :D
  24. I once 'rescued' someone's silky cross from two horses determined to squash it like an ant. Poor little dog was terrified. It would be the human equivalent of being chased by two T-Rex's out for a good time. Bloody owners hadn't even noticed. :D:
