JOTH: Are you suggesting that these vets have a long history of malpractice? There is no "we" in a court short of a class action. A damages case will not bring you "justice" and it won't be "all of us banding together". It will be your lawyer vs their lawyer and a judge determining which of the two gave a better argument and which client gets to pay for both of them. Sorry, but you stand to lose far more than you will gain with this action IMO. If you are determined to go ahead the first thing any lawyer will advise you is to keep your powder dry and NOT to outline your case on a public forum. Before you get too excited about what the TGA says about Florinef you might want to bear in mind that the TGA does not evaluate or regulate any drug for veterinary use. However a quick google told me that Florinef has been a standard veterinary treatment for canine Addisons for over two decades. Unless a necropsy with a full report was performed on your girl, I'd say you lack the evidence to move forward on this anyway.

An excellent idea! Courts should be able order that anyone they bar from animal ownership be placed on such a register.

Need support to get voice out there, wish we could name these bad vets, 2 Vets gave no information on tablets given which turned out to be 'not for use in animals' by the TGA. Large doses given which severlely dehydrated her. found out through their report they overhydrated her also, no mention of front leg swollen 3 times the size. The cruel suffering witnessed after being allowed to take her home when she was supposed to be monitored very closely on these god so forgiven "tablets". The list is endless. Oh please please anyone that can help, these vets really do need to be"held accountable" Have lost a child.!! As the risk of sounding harsh, unless you want to risk losing your house and any savings you have as well, I would strongly counsel AGAINST making a claim for damages. The court will value your dog at pretty much what you paid for her. Your pain and suffering won't amount to much in dollar terms. If you lose the action, you may have to pay the vets court costs and they could be substantial. They have insurance for this kind of claim. You don't. The Courts are not the place I would recommend you to find closure for this. I'd be starting with the AVA or your State's board for veterinary registration. Nothing you do will bring your dog back. A report to the the right authority might stop it happening to someone else.

Steve: Yep. Two ANKC main register dogs of opposite sexes and a registered prefix do NOT a good breeder make. It takes a whole lot more than that. There are ANKC registered breeders who really need to lift their game because its by the worst the of registered breeders that the rest are judged. Sadly, the CCs seem indifferent to that fact.

You must be sooo relieved. A sick dog sure can put you through the emotional wringer. Fingers crossed for a speedy full recovery.

What Do People Feed Their Dogs?
poodlefan replied to claireybell's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'd be wondering if the dog is simply being fed too much. Its a pretty common problem. How old is the dog, how many meals a day is she getting and what's her weight like. -
There are plenty of heartworm products that do not contain Ivermectin - the drug that has produced serious side effects for some individuals within "collie breeds". I understand there is now a DNA marker for this problem. I use Proheart monthly tablets - active ingredient is Moxidectin. I can't post in breeders but I'd recommend you speak to a reproductive specialist vet about whether to heartworm or not and what to use.
-
I'd be asking why. This is a breed with a voice and its not afraid to use it. Chronic barking is possible. Good on you for doing your homework on breed. I recommend you do as much on the breeder you choose. The right breeder will carefully select a show prospect for you and mentor you as you learn you way in the ring. I have raised every one of my pups working full time. I made arrangements to go home at lunchtime for some and had friends care for the latest pup when he still required three feeds a day. Given how socially well adjusted Howie is, I'll go the "doggy day care" route for future pups too.

Herding instinct is commonly considered to be modified prey drive.
-
Before I give any - what sort of collar is he wearing? Sounds a lot like you've got a prey driven dog who's lacking in stimulation - the cars are now providing it. How long till the stitches come out.
-
What breed is the puppy? I would not be using Revolution or any Ivermectin based product on any collie breed. I'd not be using Revolution period unless there is a flea problem in the area.

Just thought of another potential reason - is he carrying any kind of injury or could he be in pain. He'd be a lot more uncomfortable around other dogs if that's the case. Has he been squashed, bounced on, rolled or run over by larger dogs at the park?
-
Perhaps he's now fully mature. Is he desexed? Perhaps there's been a pattern of increasing discomfort you haven't noticed. Perhaps the dogs he's meeting at the dog park are different or there's more of them. Or one dog has rattled him. Perhaps there's been an incident recently that you've not remembered? No trainer can read your dog's mind. What they can read is his response to approaches from strange dogs. That response is very clearly "leave me alone". I strongly recommend you listen to what your dog is trying to tell you.
-
He clearly doesn't enjoy meeting new dogs. The answer is very simple. Don't allow other dogs to crowd him. As you cannot rely on other dog owners to do the right thing and keep your dogs away from him, the easiest solution is not to take him to the dog park if there are other users. See my comment above. Not all dogs enjoy the company of strange dogs, particularly strange dogs a lot bigger than they are. Don't put him in this situation. No. You're putting him into a situation in which he is clearly uncomfortable and then punishing him for warning other dogs off. Did this behaviour start with growls and did you discipline him for that? Its possible that you've escalated the behaviour. So would I. Stay out of the dog park if there are other users. You can't force a dog to enjoy socialising and this sounds to me like a dog that doesn't want to.

Pesh are your clients using tick preventatives?

Natural Balance - Opinions Please
poodlefan replied to Remarkabull's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Petbarn here has it Diva. -
How old is your dog and how far had he walked? If he's a pup, I'd be looking at it as an indication that he was tired.
-
I don't show or trial in Sydney after September. Too damn hot.
-
I'd be inclined to use a coat king on it rather than cut it off. Is it undercoat?

Jack Russel Very Possesive (aggressive)
poodlefan replied to Worm's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Whenever there is aggression involved you definitely need professional help. One thing I did want to comment on was this: Its quite possible that she's defending you like a bone - that is she's resource guarding. As you are not a bone and not to be controlled by her you'll need some help to deal with this. The simple answer to her being out the front and chasing people is KEEP HER ON LEAD. She's doing enough to have herself classified as a dangerous dog and that's a world of hurt you really don't want to visit. -
Elbie's not fussy so I'd switch them both to whatever they could both eat. I'll give the Hills a bit more time - it's just that we need the monsters to like their kibble because we use meal-times as training sessions with 2-3 bits of kibble as treats for teaching commands/tricks. KTB the general view here seems to be that Hills isn't a particularly good kibble for what you are paying for it. I'd finish most of the bag and try something else.

Good taste your daughter has!

Well if the club's organising the steward FFK, the issue might be raised with that person via the Club before the day. Personally I don't think its particularly fair to have someone travel interstate hoping to be able to exhibit and leave it all up to the steward's decision on the day of the show.

Read the schedule - most will indicate whether one is required. I tend to anyway.

At the very least, I'd be adding a baffle some inches in front of the A/C outlet to move the air to the sides of the kennel. If you've ever held your hand in front of a functioning A/C vent for more than a few seconds, you'll know how uncomfortable direct air flow from one can be.
