Catahoula Leopard Murray River Curly Coated Retriever. I think this are DOLer (or former DOLer) DMentias's dogs. I'd love to see this breed get ANKC recognition.
-
There's Shetland Sheepdog in the mix too. The breed is affected by CEA.
-
I'd have thought that was enough for the ANKC. The brown ones remind me of Cousin It.

Here I was thinking I was stuck to white, white or white! You just have to switch to the breed that the whites were split off from - the Cairn Terrier!! (or give me a call at Deshonko, I'll produce any colour you like ) -
I'm getting some of these too, I wonder if the ANKC will even consider accepting them before FCI recognition If they are recognised by the CC of their country of origin that's enough isn't it? Where are they from?

There used to be a Bluetick living in Jerrabomberra when I lived over that way. The owner nearly fell over when I asked him if that's what it was. I like the look of the Redbones but not sure I'd want to live with a dog that bays. All Coonhounds are noted for their good temperament.

Out of curiosity, do these apply to breeds where those colours are common? Example being my Black labs, would they be more susceptible to certain kinds of cancer? Or is it only the case in breeds where the colour is rare/disqualified? Or Samoyeds, are they more su susceptible to deafness ect? Apparently the cancer link goes across breeds for black dogs. Rottweillers are noted as being more susceptible to parvo as a breed. Can't say about Samoyeds but Westies get skin issues noted in health issues for the breed. -
I've got a dog book with all the FCI recognised breeds. I like quite a few of the rarer European hunting dogs. I wish we had Picardy Spaniels here.

No. Its a gundog and has a very gentle disposition.

There are also those who will buy a "faulty dog" at a premium price because of its rarity. Blue Staffords are a painful case in point. All some breeders can see are the $$$ to be had for fleecing folk thinking they're getting something special when they're buying a dud. You can add the breeders of "teacup" and oversize dogs to that category. -
Feel free to Google - its what I'm doing.

Is he deaf? -
Use tree guards or fence them off. What do you give your dog to chew on?

You need a Stafford person to tell you but reading posts here from dilute owners, that seems to be the case. I think its both. I think breeding for colour may double up on problematic genes that might be recessive when only one parent passes on the colour. The lethal white gene is a case in point. You need it to be present in both parents. Breed a paint horse to a solid coloured horse (even one with a paint parent) and you don't get white foals that are stillborn or die at birth. -

To answer the question on colour and issues: White - deafness, low immune system, skin and hair issues. Common link can often be thyroid irregularities. White with lack of pigment usually spells trouble, especially for hearing. Black - more prone to certain kinds of cancer including hemangiosarcoma and bone cancer Black and Tan - parvo magnets Fawn and Blue - dilute colour alopecia. Not often seen in Whippets thank God but definitely in SBTs and Dobes. Those are the ones I know of. -

I was talking to a well known Whippet breeder at a show last year. The subject of flashy white markings and parti-colour dogs came up. She said that in the USA, people breeding partis and flashy marked dogs are starting to see deafness appearing in pups. This is a breed where the standard calls for no colour preference but where, I'd have to say, solid coloured dogs don't tend to be as favourably judged as those with plenty of chrome. So in a healthy breed, we see a problem creeping in due to colour breeding. Whenever it happens (colour breeding) it ususually brings unintended and unwelcome consequences. Those breeding flashy boxers together already know about the very same issue. I own a dilute Whippet. I have already made the decision that he will not mate with any dilute bitch (assuming he does stud duties). You play with these issues at the peril of the dogs. People breeding dilutes together in the SBT world deserve a good slap. And the SBP page here are full of pups from dilute dogs remarkable only for their colour. -
Talk of the Azawakh in the colours thread led me to start one here for pics of rare (to this country or others) dog breeds. As far as I've heard there's only one Azawakh here. I think the breed's temperament is a bit different to sighthounds most of us know as they perform a protection function in addition to hunting? Anywhoo - here's one for Monah. Bracco Italiano - love these and there would only be a handful here. They are ANKC recognised. Post em up folks. Wazzat should definitely add some!!

They used to be. I don't know any breeders who do it these days but I think it happens less often at least. ETA: No responsible breeder aims to produce dogs outside the accepted colours but they do crop up from time to time for a lot of folk. Phantom (terrier marked) poodles aren't that unusual. -
Old dogs are different I reckon - they loose muscle tone from all kinds of places. Have you got a pic?
-
I agree. I haven't seen the footage so can't comment.

How were the police expected to know which one of the three to target? Steve said it all, don't blame the police for doing their jobs. Blame the knob of an owner.
-
Maybe they were worrried because its after school hours. Kids would fare less well than an adult if targetted. Or maybe its just a slow day crime wise. :D

Oops - realised you were talking about the harness, not the head collar.
