An adult dog certainly doesn't need 3 meals a day. How about you just cut one out completely. Personally I'd cut out two. Also look at what he's getting as treats or snacks - that can also add up to quite a bit. You've got a breed prone to cruciate ligament rupture - getting weight off will help prevent that AND keep him free of arthritis longer. Be ruthless - its in his best interests to be lean.

Help! Our Puppy Just Chewed A Hole In The Leather Couch!--upda
poodlefan replied to Huntia's topic in Puppy Chat
I feel your pain. Ask me sometime about my beautiful wooden venetians. It might be time to introduce a crate if you can't keep an eye on him. As suggested, a bone outside might save wear and tear around the house too. -
What works for any overweight dog of any breed is LESS food. Changing foods won't work if you give too much. Are you feeding your dog twice a day Lablove? If so, knock out one complete meal. Easy peasy.

* Being able to find a hole in the ring with your dodgy ankle (and only that ankle) every time you run a dog, no matter where the show is. * People who don't bag their dogs' poo before binning it (see earlier rant on this subject ) * People who roll up at the last minute and assume its fine to park their uncrated dogs in your carefully laid out gazebo plan. : (If you want a spot with me that's fine but let me know first and bring a bloody crate) * People who use potato flour or brush out their dogs upwind of you. * Finding out they've sold all the red jelly trifle at Junee and you have to have green. And last but by no means least: PEOPLE WHO LET THEIR DOGS COCK THEIR LEGS ON OTHER PEOPLES GAZEBOS AND DON'T WASH IT OFF.

KTB: That's fine if there are no other dogs around but throwing a ball in a group of dogs encourages competition to get it and that can lead to aggression. Aussielover, I think you're being very responsible about the use of food. I can't stand people who shovel food down their dogs heads (or any other dog's) in amongst a group of dogs for the same reason that ball throwing in a group is unwise. But if you're not rewarding the other person's dog for its failure to recall to its owner, perhaps THEY need to use treats.

Only if you wear a balaclava and, if caught, deny any connection with DOL. Pink paint is prettier by the way.

Postie acted humanely and at risk to himself. Good on him. Owner needs a nice big fine and a good smack around the head. :

Lovely photo and brilliant dog. Well done Delta!

Not really - just till the stitches are out.

I didn't say debarking was illegal in Victoria. I said the dog had been illegally debarked. The process for lawful debarking in Victoria wasn't followed. Sorry, isn't it then the vet who did it the one who should be in trouble? They must have the proper paperwork etc before they proceed. Vet was in NSW - whole different regime there.

There's an easy out here CW. Say you're not willing to do it if the owner's not with the dog and you're not sure even then.

I like the idea of celebrating the first show dog. How about: Prefix On Debut (Debut is a french word after all) Prefix Our Debut Prefix The Debutante Prefix First Among Equals Prefix Primary Colour Prefix Sacajawea (she was a pioneer) Prefix First Past the Post And if you get desperate Prefix BreatheN Smile Oh poo - you'd already chosen.

Hot Weather And Keeping Dogs Outside
poodlefan replied to RoxyNHemi's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs have inside/outside access and when the temperature really climbs, I program the A/C to turn on in the afternoon. -
Nah, I haven't shopped under the influence. I just read about others that have a few too many glasses of Charders and get on the computer with the plastic fantastic. Its all good.

Could have been worse Hoffpig. If you managed to avoid getting on Ebay and maxing out your credit card buying stuff you didn't really need that's not a bad thing. I read a news article a while back that shopping under the influence is a growing practice.

Kongs, unless its the floaty ones on a rope or the Wubbas for the water. Ditto the Cuz's - completely disinterested. They love the little latex squeakys though. Go figure.

If they have the brains to stop trying to force him into "making friends" I'd not feel sorry for him at all. Some dogs don't give a damn about other dogs. I might mention that to my neighbours! Classic example from the other night.. out at the club walking with FHRP and her tribe. Lady opens the gate and lets her Toy Poodle in (without asking of course) to the paddock in which we've got 3 big gundogs, 2 Whippets and my poodles because "she thought the poodles would play with her dog". After convincing Howie Whippet that even though the poodle ran madly in circles, it wasn't an invitation to chase it into the ground, two of my poodles looked at it like it was an alien and Darcy had a go at it (I'd picked him up initally then put him down but the dog rushed up to him) My dogs have their 'friends' but other than Howie the Whippet, dont' give a toss about other dogs.

Typing under the influence. Havent' been guilty of that one yet.

Under Victorian law, they were illegally debarked. Hardly a proportional response to the offence though. Yes, I know that debarking is illegal in Victoria, the most that should have been done is issue a fine, not seize the dogs. The dogs were not in any form of danger, they were well looked after, there is no justification in seizing them. You won't get any argument from me on that one.
-
Its not the neighbours dog. I think she's being quite irresponsible even attempting to address this issue in a dog she doesn't own. This is a job for professionals CW - your neighbour clearly has no idea about this behaviour and I'd not trust her to keep your dogs safe.

A knee high stocking does a good job as a muzzle on little dogs. Not sure what if I'd use it on a larger dog.
